It’s time to stop painting

When Renoir painted his Axons he made Aline enchanting, beautiful, mesmerizing and graceful. He gave Sirene opulent jewelry, plentiful color, he painted her island as the only place in the Canvas with that type of architecture. Unique and wondrous in all her ways, with the charming ability to make everything perfect again. And make no mistake, he is the Tisseur ever weaving for Sirene because he does love her but killing him also makes you immune to Sirene’s charm.

He gives Clea the world. Her Axon is just like her, her very long auburn hair, white shirt, dark blue skirt, suspenders. The Hauler is not an overdramatized version of Clea; it’s just Clea. A city on its back, the weight of their entire family on her shoulders constantly. Her Axon is in Old Lumiere, while everyone else’s are much further up toward the Monolith in a perfect line next to each other though divided by the sea.

He gives Verso his window and mirror. Visage is performer with dramatic lighting and stage sounds, Verso with his piano in the opera house as the lights dimmed. Verso hides both behind and within his art and cannot separate those things.

He gives Alicia the impossible, the endless possibilities he sees for her. Her Axon gets ever taller; always reaching for the sky. Neither storm nor fire may stop his little star from going beyond the boundaries of the world.

Renoir works in only layered, interpretive artwork and I think that’s beautiful.

the funniest part of expedition 33 hands down btw is when it's revealed verso had the flying stone the whole time. gaslight gatekeep girlboss verso. i support your wrongs

God it has to suck being Verso.

You're a memory. A fragment. Imagined into reality based on a guy who died to save his family. You want so badly to die to save your family, but they aren't your family. You love them like they are your family because you were created to be him. You're not him. He's dead. You're immortal. He ran straight into death and so you were created with the same impulse but you can't do it. You literally cut yourself in half to make other people laugh. You watched a guy die for your sister the same way you did, except it wasn't you and he wasn't real and you're not really her brother and she cares about him far more than you. You want to die so badly. You were born wanting to die. You're not real, and your mother, who you love, is dying to keep you alive. You aren't really alive. Your family is tearing itself apart trying to kill you. You can't die.

i'm so obsessed with the different ways the dessendre family choose to paint it's soooo good

aline doesn't create anything new and is only interested in copying real life, so she paints her family, paints paris, paints humans, all to try and escape the grief of her reality. renoir paints elaborate representations of his loved ones in the form of the axons, trying to express what he thinks art should be while also revealing his own judgements and wishes for his family in how he chooses to portray them. verso was just a kid when he made the canvas, and so he makes the things a young boy would want: funny guys with brushes for heads who love to fight, his dog except he can TALK and also they're BEST FRIENDS, etc etc.

you can tell clea is the eldest daughter because when she was given the ability to paint whatever she wanted into existence she said 'okay i'm going to create incredibly creepy and violent monsters that can kill people in at least 30 creative ways' like this fucking thing

The beach scene is devastating but also really funny to me because everyone stops in their tracks just to point out that Renoir is old.

it's so funny when you go back through the prologue again & you see the statues in the harbor and kind of just go

Verso Dessendre, haunting the narrative from day 1.

also, the way they use the statues together with Gustave is fun, like the first time we take control, this is the view:

Gustave looking down at the statues, showing us that that's the end goal of the level (but also for Gustave's character)

Framing him as he breaks down after loosing his lover, literally standing on the path straight to the Paintress & and the monolith:

And when Gustave arrives to the expedition festival:

(also yes we have confirmation they're supposed to look like Verso, they're literally called Lumiere Verso Statue on artstation so)

Since he wears what looks like an expedition uniform I would guess the people built them when they returned from Expedition 0 and put up the dome and all that. (Also, the fact they only opted for Verso and not Renoir kinda hints that he was the one who actually came up with the "tech", which makes another connection to Gustave who created the lumina converter).

Also, how neat it is that this is specifically canvas Verso being honored, rather than the original Verso. How, to the citizens of Lumiere and the team, he's the one that mattered (well, for most of them anyway).
