Sam's bag is packed.

It's hidden away in the back of a dusty old closet, but Dean knows it's in there.

Dad doesn't, not yet. Sam's telling him tomorrow, he says, but he's been saying that everyday since they arrived at this town a week ago and dad is still none the wiser.

Dean sort of wished he was ignorant to it all, but they'd been drunk a month ago and Sam had let it all spill out and Dean had spent the last month recycling through angry and sad, trying to drink in as much of his baby brother as possible.

And now Sam's leaving tomorrow night. And of course Dean is mad, he's mad Sam's leaving him, and he's mad Sam didnt tell him 5 months back when he sent in his application (he cant help but wonder if Sam would've actually been telling him tomorrow too if it hadn't been for that bottle of vodka).

But mostly?

He's happy for him. He's getting what he always wanted, and Dean is so proud of him for getting into such a prestigious school despite everything.

All of that didn't change the fact they'd be apart, though. Potentially for a long time.

Forever, if Sam finds someone else. Realises how sick and twisted they are together.

"Dean?" He snapped from his thoughts and zoned back into reality, looking over to Sam who was currently curled up next to him.

"Yeah?" He murmured, his voice surprisingly hoarse and throat dry, and ordinarily Sam might've made a joke or poked fun.

Tonight he just shuffled in closer, brushing their lips in a barely there kiss.

"I'm not going to leave you. Not... completely. You get that, right?"

Dean nodded, tugging Sam against his chest and holding him tight.

He probably would, but that was ok. Sam deserved his normal.

And Dean? He would just keep on the path he was going down. Carry on with the family buisness like dad wanted, popping by once a year to act as the weird uncle to the kids Sammy would have with some beautiful, smart girl he met at college. Sam would become a successful lawyer fighting the good fight, and Dean would just become a part of his past he'd rather forget. It was going to be his hell, but Sam's heaven.

4 years later when dads missing and that beautiful, smart girl is burning up on the ceiling, Dean really wishes his idea of hell had come true instead.
