Iconic photographs by James Nasmyth (1808 - 1890) for his book The Moon: Considered as a Planet, a World, and a Satellite (1885).
Telescopes not being able to capture the moon’s surface in such detail at the time, Nasmyth constructed plaster models of moonscapes based on his own observations and the published accounts of other astronomers and photographed them for the book.
