i think one of the funniest (and most frustrating) parts of the mistynat debate is that people focus so much on what they think nat's feelings towards misty are that they let that color their entire view of mistynat and its place within the story. they think nat genuinely hated misty and therefore it's a nothingburger ship. which is just silly because the reality is, regardless of whether nat hated misty or secretly loved her, it doesn't change how important her relationship to misty is to the narrative of the show and to natalie as a character. which inherently makes it anything but a ~nothingburger ship.

i think it's entirely fair to say misty might even be nat's most important relationship. not the most important relationship/person to nat herself, but the most important to her narrative as a character, if that makes sense. i think prior to s3, it was travis and i think there's a huge chance that will be the case by the end of the show once we get into their post rescue story, but after s3, i would argue misty is for now. it's certainly been the most consistent one involving her, as it's been a huge plot or drove a huge plot in all three seasons, even when they were separated for most of s2. the travis investigation in s1, misty searching for nat being what ultimately brings them all to lottie's compound (plus her saving nat in the first hunt being what causes nat to sacrifice herself in the adult hunt and die by misty's hand) in s2, then ben's trial and the transponder/calling for rescue (which re-contextualized an iconic moment/reveal in the pilot as being connected to their relationship), and misty learning not to take the other girls shit/investigate lottie's murder due to trying to be more like nat in s3. and it's unarguably misty's most important relationship, both from a written narrative perspective and within the narrative, to her as a character. adult misty's storylines are driven almost entirely by nat in all three seasons in the same way adult nat's were driven by travis in s1/2, even after her death. similar to how much of shauna's character/actions are driven by/connected to jackie even after her death and lottie with laura lee.

whether or not nat hated misty's guts or secretly wanted to fuck her doesn't change any of that and is almost irrelevant to me. for people to be confused about why other people are invested in their relationship or find it compelling is so silly to me like... because we're supposed to be! it's objectively one of the most important and consistent relationships on the show.

Quick post,

I have a Yellowjackets no-plane-crash teen timeline AU fic idea, where Laura Lee befriends Misty, which opens the door for the other Yellowjackets to slowly bring her into the fold as well.

The ship is MistyNat so far, and I have a few chapters outlined. I’m just wondering if there’s any interest in me developing this idea further. I might need the inspiration/encouragement. I am notoriously quick to post and slow to update.
