Sludglie Origins

A few hundred years ago, the underworld became overpopulated. The creatures that lived there starved and fought over food.

There were about 50 of what humans would call "devils" or perhaps even "goblins" or "gremlins". They were disgusting looking creatures back then. Covered head to toe in gross runny tar.

They broke up into four tribes and settled in different areas. The ones who stayed where they first arrived became the Basic Type, the ones who traveled to the sandy deserts became the Desert Type, the ones who traveled to the tops of the coldest mountains became the Cold Type, and the ones who made their homes under the water became the Sleek Type.

The Basic Type had the easiest time, getting fat on berries and rabbits. But they were the first to be domesticated by humans. Over the years they took a form that more resembles a cat, as did the rest of the Sludglies eventually.

The Desert Type had one of the hardest times. Food was scarce, but eventually they evolved to be immune to the poisons and venoms of all the creatures who lived there before them. The sharp spines of the cacti did not bother them, nor did the heat since they were used to living in the underworld. They become mostly nocturnal, only a few remaining dayturnal to ambush prey while they were sleeping during the day.

The Cold Type quickly evolved to have fluffier fur and hotter sludge. They hibernated during the worst of the cold season, and their hind legs became bulkier to help them jump higher to catch birds that fly overhead. They dig burrows deep within the mountains where it's the warmest. Their tunneling system is similar to how ants dig their tunnels.

It took a long time for the Sleek Type to fully evolve and adapt to live on the land and the water. Their fur became hydrophobic and their legs became more muscular to help them swim through currents. They mostly feasted upon fish. Many fishermen reported seeing them, and claiming they have stolen their things. Which isn't wrong. All Sludglies are naturally curious. The Sleek Type just likes to steal. Like tiny pirates.

All Sludglies have been domesticated now, but there are still some that live in the wild. They are far from the devils that crawled out of the deepest parts of the underworld. They're just as common to see as a pet as a cat or dog.

Legendary Trait - Sharp Claws

They are longer and harder than regular Sludglie claws. They are quite hard to trim.

Legendary Trait - Antlers

They tend to get into fights often. I'm not sure why this trait makes them more aggressive. They ram their antlers into each other until their owner steps in and stops them.

Legendary Trait - Saber Teeth

Like little vampires!

Rare Trait - Hard Sludge

Their sludge is abnormally hard, almost like stone. It's not very squishy :(

Rare Trait - Plant Tail

The plants actually do grow from the tail!

Uncommon Trait - Piebald

White spots or splotches of any size shape or amount all over their body. They can rarely appear on their sludge too!

Common Trait - Small Tail

Paired with the small ears trait, they definitely look like little bears!

Common Trait - Extra Fur

Simple extra fur anywhere that isn't sludge. This makes Cold Types into puffballs.

Cold Type Sludglie

•They live in cold climates.

•They are very fluffy, and their fluff can be anywhere except the snout and sludge.

•Some Cold Types have ear tufts.

•Their sludge is warm to help regulate their body temperature.

•Their tails are light and feather-like, meaning that if they need to, they can run faster and jump higher and longer distances than the other Sludglie types.

•Their paw pads are thick to prevent frostbite.

•They have a shorter snout than the other Sludglie types, which also helps prevent frostbite.

•They typically have larger feet to make it easier to walk through the snow.

•They have larger pupils.

Desert Type Sludglie

•Desert Sludglies are commonly found in warm/hot environments.

•They have whiskers that can be any length, but are commonly about 6 inches long.

•Their sludge is cool to help regulate their body temperature and is harder than the Basic Type's sludge.

•All of their feet are hooves.

•Line near eyes to help them see farther than the other Sludglie types.

Sleek Type Sludglie

•Sleek type Sludglies live underwater, but can also be on land for a short period of time.

•They can have fins is various different areas that are different colors, shapes, and sizes.

•Only female Sleeks have anglers.

•They eat mostly fish and sea grass.

•They looove collecting shells!

•Their sludge has the same texture as that weird slime that becomes solid when you slap it.

•Their tails can have whale like fins, but it's not necessary.

•Their ears are hidden under a thick layer of sludge to prevent water from getting in them.

•They have gills right where their lungs would be.

•Their fur is very sleek and smooth.

•They can live in any type of water.

•They are mostly found on islands and near beaches, but they tend to stay away from humans since they know humans caused pollution.

Basic Type Sludglie

Basic type Sludglies are the most common and found in almost every type of environment.

•They have hooves on their hind legs and normal paws on their front legs.

•The sludge on their back is shiny and room temperature.

•Their tail end can be any shape, but heart is most common due to their original form.

•The area around their mouth, feet, and tail-tip are darker than the rest of the fur.

They were the first type to evolve from their original form and in some cultures they are completely banned from being owned due to their close appearance to their original form and what it represents.
