dash’s quick reflexes were the only thing that saved him from ariana completely knocking him off of his feet . his attention was immediately drawn to the BUSTED looking necklace that was hanging from her fingers . his dark brows immediately furrowed , taking a moment to examine the thing . “ you know , ari … i don’t know about this one . i’m not as checked out in the doo-hickey department as you are . but this … necklace ?? looks pretty rough to me . ” however , he shrugged just a moment after and glanced back up at the girl . “ but nobody knows thingies like you do , ariana . i’ve seen you fix up garbage into somethin’ respectable . ”

ariana drooped, her shoulders slumping for a moment in an exaggerated disappointment, before almost immediately perking up at dash’s compliment. “you’re right,” she said, and held up the necklace in front of her, and turning it over. “i think i can salvage the pendant. thanks, dash. how’re you?”

hinrich had found that, while he met plenty of people doing repairs and going to class, he hadn’t met many people with whom he really “clicked.” that’s why he had begun to volunteer at the animal shelter; not only would he get to meet people with whom he at least had a love of animals, he would get to be around animals, too. that’s how he had met ariana. he wasn’t sure if she felt it, but to him, there was an instant connection between the pair. and she was so sunny, energetic, and fun that he couldn’t help but like her. now, he looked forward to volunteering because of her. today, he walked into the shelter and the moment he saw her, called out, “hey ari!” 

ariana had a lot of hobbies. she could never help it, she’d find a new thing. but her love for animals, and want to care for them had been a thing since she was little. she had a lot of pets growing up, and she missed the lot of them, since moving to america. what she loved about her job is it was a lifeline to meting new people and new animals, and she got to do a thing she loved. that’s why she felt drawn to hinrich, she could see he was here for the same reasons, even past his more introverted exterior. she was working behind the desk, when she heard her name being called. her head snapped up. “hinrich? hey!” she said, standing from her seat. “what’s going on? you have a shift?”

summer was officially over but that didn’t stop her from trying to hold onto her favorite season as long as possible. “do you think we could still find somewhere to go swimming?” she asked dreamily. considering she was trying not to visibly shiver in her tank top, she figured the answer would be no. as much as she knew it was time to say goodbye to summer, rachel was determined to make it last until the first snowfall. “are there any indoor pools around here?”

ariana’s ears perked at the mention of swimming, and she turned to rachel, a wide smile on her face. “you’ve come to the right person, rach,” she replied, pushing herself off from where she was sitting on the stoop. “follow me!” she spun on her heels and held her arm out for her friend to take.

ariana’s fairly articulate, sometimes her words get a bit jumbled but that’s just because she’s always overwhelmed with like a billion thoughts

her father paid for her to go to an expensive private school with tutors and whatever but she didn’t really care for school, she very much preferred exploring and learning on her own terms

her laugh is very bright, and very loud, and while she may not laugh much, she loves to smile

she gives people the silent treatment like no other, and she has a tendency to pout

she’s VERY animated-- however, most times people see her she has a smile on her face, but her face displays all her emotions essentially

ariana talks a lot with her hands because she gets overexcited and tends to enter people’s personal space, she loves to hold hands and gesture when she explains her newest find or talks about the animals at the shelter

ariana hates wearing shoes, she likes her feet to be free, so she’s barefoot as much as she can possibly be-- she’s gotten into trouble for this multiple times

ari is very sensitive, but her outbursts are reserved for when she’s especially upset

she has a necklace she fiddles with, she twirls strands of her hair when she’s nervous, bites her lip a lot

she had to take etiquette lessons as a child and unfortunately, the posture lesson stuck with her, so she stands pretty straight and proper but that’s about all she learned

she’s a vegetarian! but she loves desserts

ariana is a fairly light sleeper, she is afraid of missing things so she sleeps for a short amount of time

she’s not on any but will do them lmaooo

ariana has six older sisters, who she loves but gets sick of often, she has hernan, her half brother, who she found out about when she was a teenager, she’s very close to him, they facetime all the time she sends him things, and then matty, her cousin, who she adores more than anything

ariana had a bit of a personal space issue, meaning she didn’t have any. so she bounded up to this person, her new find in hand. “hey! hi! look at this thingy,” she told them, holding out her hand to show the incredibly weathered necklace she had found while combing the beach at an early hour this morning. “do you think i could get this cleaned, or is it not salvageable?”
