I dyed my hair recently!! I keep getting asked why I dyed it purple and I'm a little ashamed to admit why...

love your theory, BUT it falls apart once you reach the last lines

"out came the sun and dried up all the rain, so the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again."

this implies that the spout is now DRY and the spider may climb peacefully. the narrator isn't evil, nor is it inconclusive

So like. We know the itsy bitsy spider song right. And we know Sysphus. Rock roll up hill guy. These feel like related thoughts. I have a theory about the itsy bitsy spider song.

Theory: The spider is trapped in a time loop with an unreliable / evil narrator

(Do evil narrators qualify as unreliable)

Evidence:

1. No conclusive ending to the song (implies that this is a cycle)

2. Song never mentions spider getting a choice, it just goes up the waterspout.

Ok I don't have other evidence but my theory is that the spider did something bad to the narrator in a past life (spider does not remember) and is now trapped being forced up the waterspout by the narrator over and over as atonement (Sysphus style)
