so listen, it’s far beyond me to feel comfortable doing this kind of thing but uh… guess who’s gettin thrown out of her home? my story is basically that my dad got pancreatic cancer when i was sixteen. i dropped out of high school around that time. ive been the main caretaker, errand-doer, and emotional support since then. he passed away a few months ago - which, while extremely sad, has given me the chance to start living my own life. unfortunately my mother has decided that, after less than a year doing my own thing, i have to get my shit together and have a) the money to pay for a place to live b) a place to live within five months.

we live with my fiancee who moved here from rough circumstances (with the explicit promise of my mother that it was ok) who is also included in this. however both of us are disabled, have mobility issues and serious anxiety issues so typical jobs arent so much an option. right now im working part-time (since retail is all i can do w my education background and i have severe chronic pain due to EDS, and my limbs kinda dislocate at will so that’s not ideal) but its minimum wage and im just simply not making very much. were working on creative stuff thatll hopefully bring money one day but its fickle as hell, you know how it is.

my dad left me money but my mother has taken all of it. she refuses to allow me any access to the money he left me. we had enough money to live before he died, but shes started spending huge amounts of money at once on frivolous shit. she refuses to work. im 90% she doesnt want me to make money for myself but wants me to pay for her stuff because thats what my dad did. shes extremely volatile emotionally and can go from adoring us one second to being cold and cruel, shes overtly selfish, and shes honestly exacerbating both of our anxiety issues because of this

she previously told us shed help us out with money but has since rescinded the offer and started pushing us harder and harder to leave. shes also like, actively abusive toward our cat, which is driving me up the wall

anyway, sorry for how long this has gotten. long story short i really need help right now.

URGENT WOMEN AND MEN ON STRIKE FOR 1 MONTH NEED YOUR HELP

In the train stations of the North of Paris, the women and men employed ONET* have been on strike for one month to protest against the awful working conditions they have to endure, and the ridiculous amount of money given to them to eat each day at their workplace (1,90€, that they want to raise up to 4€). They are in charge of cleaning up the train stations in Paris and its suburbs — most of them have worked as cleaning agents in the train stations for more than 20 years, and this is their first strike. These people are mostly immigrant women, they’re not white, most of them have families and kids to support, and they will not be paid anything for the month they spent on  strike. 

Their situations are already extremely precarious and not getting one full month of salary will have disastrous consequences for their lives and the lives of the people relying on their salaries. 

They set up a « pot commun », which is a french crowdfunding website that allows you to donate to them to support them and their families. 

Last Friday (01/12/2017), they suffered police repression in one of those trains stations and we now fear that because of the police violence they won’t be able to hold on for much longer, on what has already been a very long strike. Not only are they risking their employer not to accept their demands, they are also likely to lose their jobs afterwards. 

 This situation is absolutely critical and this is why i’m begging you to donate anything you can, or reblog and share this if you cannot donate.

 *SNCF (the public company in charge of French railways) uses subcontracting to hire cleaning agents. Subcontracting allows them to not pay their agents the salary that would be due to someone working in a public service. ONET, a subcontracting company known for its violence against women and lack of ethics (they have already made headlines when a number of women working for them accused their superiors of sexual harassment), is the one in charge of cleaning SNCF’s train stations.

If anything, the fact that most of the world’s people don’t have qualitative access to the fruits of education and technology works in capitalism’s favor. If all people had a sufficient education in this day and age, and archaic conceptions of intellectual property were abolished, we’d see constant creative booms in STEM and the arts. This would mean that sustainable technologies and labor-saving automation could be improved upon nigh-exponentially. In turn, a scenario like that would lay capitalist contradictions more visible for the lower classes of the world to see, and the system’s longevity would be put in jeopardy. Capitalism benefits from having a dispossessed, impoverished workforce that will accept whatever wage on offer, alongside the “unlimited” extraction process of capital accumulation that needs a society of dependent consumers; capitalism is not in the business of making itself obsolete.
