From NatGeo’s photos of the week. These creatures need our respect and protection and contrary to what the media portrays them as, they are not man eaters or mindless killers. The diver resting calmly in the background shows that we can coexist peacefully and I hope images like this help debunk the negative perception of the amazing creatures.

A beautiful tiger shark rising just below the famous ShearWater vessel off Tiger Beach in the Bahamas. Unfortunately this critically important apex ocean predator has visible signs of human impact with a rusted fishing lure still lodged in its mouth. These creatures need our respect and protection and contrary to what the media portrays them as, they are not man eaters or mindless killers. The diver resting calmly in the background shows that we can coexist peacefully and I hope images like this help debunk the negative perception of the amazing creatures.

A curious Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) in the sapphire blue waters of the South Pacific. I only had a couple of seconds to reset my focus points and switch to portrait orientation as this stunning adult humpback whale slowly ascended vertically towards the surface a few miles off the coast of Ha'apai, Kingdom of Tonga.

“Eye to Eye”
A curious and quite playful humpback whale calf comes in for a close look in an amazing exchange between two sentient beings. This calf was rolling around as its mom slept then swam towards me, slowing down just long enough for us to make eye to eye contact. Image taken in Ha’Apai, Kingdom of Tonga. This image was featured in NatGeo’s “Underwater Beauty” feature in May of 2018.

First post here so here goes. I’ll be using Tumblr to showcase some of my wildlife photography from my travels and any other photography related stuff. I figure I’ll start with a bang with this capture of a dramatic pass by "Patches aka Pocahontas" the Great Hammerhead at Tiger Beach in the Bahamas.
While images like this can seem intimidating, I stress that she was graceful and powerful...curious yet cautious. Most importantly I was in her territory and I owed her my deepest respect. Contrary to what the media portrays these keystone species as, they are quite the opposite. They are not mindless killing machines nor man eaters and these animals deserve our respect and protection.
