Once when I was a kid my dad told me to āstop being a you-know-whatā. And weād done the whole song and dance enough times that I knew he meant ābitchā, so I told him: Thatās cheating. You know what you mean, and I know what you mean- youāre just stepping around it so you can pretend youāre on the high ground. So if youāre going to call me a bitch, at least have the balls to actually say it.
And itās been about fifteen years since then but Iām just now figuring out that thatās the same feeling I get hearing shit like āgrapeā and āunaliveā.
If your audience knows what you mean, you might as well actually say it. Otherwise youāre just fucking hiding

so, they didnāt want players killing kids in the new lego star wars, so they made them immune to friendly fire damage, but they didnāt make them invincible, so now speedrunners are doing extended air combos on them to cross large gaps and climb tall structures. this has been dubbed Child Flight

Once I "made" a custom emoji for my mum by crudely drawing a hijab on it and now whenever she wants me to buy a coffee for her I get a text like this

Saying that a certain group of people is too privileged to complain about the way that things are is its own sort of defense of the status quo

I am actually so serious I think it really messes with a childs creativity and joy to tell them to never make a mary sue OC. Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever

I don't know where I read it but one of the best quotes I've ever read about the nature of sci-fi was "A good sci-fi story is one that predicts not the car but the traffic jam"
