" the sentence is punctuated by a kiss on the cheek. it is late, and perhaps it is by design ( read: an unfortunate turn of events ) that lukas is kept up long enough by work to see the date change. but it isn't so bad --- after all, this is the day his favorite person came into the world. " thank you for being here yet another year. my life is made all the better for it. "

             Slowly he turned on his side to look at his lover, as he let out a small exhale. “ And I thought I was supposed to be the dramatic one, hm ? ” As gently as he gazed in Lukas’ eyes, he wrapped an arm ( And in turn perhaps some extra blanket ) over his waist to bring him closer in order to pull him into a more proper kiss. 

             To others the progression of their relationship was odd, Fernand was acutely aware of that. However, as tiring as it was explaining to... oh so many people that they were now on better ( much better ) terms, that didn’t dwindle how he felt towards the other. He was a presence Fernand hadn’t realized he would grow to not be able to live without in his life, and for staying at his side he was eternally grateful. 

             As their lips separated, his face painted into the smallest ( but most genuine ) of grins. “ Let us see.. If we’re feeling that thankful tonight, allow me to thank you — for thanking me for being someone you enjoy having in your life. — Though I will say it’s not as if you have a choice in the matter anymore. ”

" So about me and Faye dating— that was just a joke. April Fool's and Happy Birthday. " The week-long prank had all been Faye's idea, but it was Kliff's to jokingly call his birthday present a ' gift of relief '. But no worries, Fernand! He has a real present waiting for later, he swears.

                A hand raised to rub the man’s temples as soon as the young man finished talking, with a sigh. “ You’re killing me, Kliff. You’re literally killing me —how is that supposed to be funny ??? Not to mention you didn’t even do it on the right day. You’re unbelievable. ” he sighed again. Perhaps it was the exact response that Kliff wanted ( or perhaps it wasn’t explosive enough ) but really, when was Fernand ever one to shy away form how he feels. 

                Really the entire idea was ridiculous  — not that Fernand minded the thought of his son getting a date, no. But to date one of the people in his little ‘ friend group ’ — specially the young lady that made it clear she had nothing but disdain for Fernand too ?? Anyone would think negatively on it, and frankly it weighed on his mind more than he verbalized with the white haired boy told him. 

                                Perhaps it really was a ‘ gift of relief ’. 

               “ Perhaps instead of chess I should have enrolled you in comedy classes if you were going to turn out to be so hilarious. ” He spoke, more to himself than anything else, dramatic as ever before his eyes focused on the boy again. “ Regardless... Thank you. ”

Faye·:

        Like a knight? The question angers her. She couldn’t care less about it, she feared those who bore that title and the memory that caused it wouldn’t leave no matter how hard she tried. Faye’s reasons for being here were her friends and she had no plan on following the path of knighthood. As much as the question struck a cord it was, she pocketed it away with a clenched fist. ❝ I want to learn how to use a bow. ❞ While yes, she could protect herself with a sword thanks to Mycen’s teachings, close combat implied seeing the face of the person she took the life of and that was terrifying. Magic was out of the question, there was no one who could teach her, maybe Kliff could but no, she wanted to use a bow.

        ❝ I don’t want to be cool or like a real knight, that’s dumb, i want to protect my friends when their backs are exposed. ❞ Fist unclench, arms cross.❝ So… please, teach me how to use a bow. ❞

                  “ I ... ” He started, thrown off by the young girl’s response. It wasn’t like he thought he had the most foolproof plan — no. But even then, there was a sort of underlying intensity that he couldn’t quite put his finger on that he didn’t think he was a fan of.. 

                 “ Alright, look. I’m not against teaching you, but before you’re even allowed near a bow I want you to understand some things.” He continued, his tone gradually growing more and more serious as he begun explaining. “ Protecting your friends is nice and all, but you also need to know that when you’re in the back that means sometimes there’s nothing you can do if your friends get hurt. It’s not your job to help them — and if you do it can cost us a lot more than your one friend. It can be painful and sometimes maybe even your fault, and at the end of the day if you can’t handle it I don’t know if we can afford to spend time teaching you something completely different. ”

That Lukas one was supposed to be a redraw of the iconic scene where he roasts Fernand but i never finished the rest orz

Lukas:

        his last class of the day,  seventh period world history,  had filed out only a few minutes ago.  thankfully,  no one had lingered,  allowing for lukas to tidy up his desk along with his thoughts  —  as well as the pounding migraine he’d been fending off all day would allow him to.  caffeine tended to help,  he’d assumed the headache to be from the lack thereof,  but this time it hadn’t.  and neither had the water he’d downed or the medication he’d taken.  it seems that sleepless nights were catching up with him.  he’d not even noticed fernand entering his always - open door,  nor was his response to his words anything less than automatic.

        “  paying close attention,  are we ?  ��  lukas bites out  —  and then freezes in his movements,  an uneven stack of tests in hand.  they’re carefully lowered back to the desk as he lets loose a sigh.  “  …  i’m sorry.  that was unnecessarily curt.  ”  god  —  what if that’d been the principal,  his coordinator,  or even a student.  the shame is almost enough for lukas to comply with fernand’s  “  demands  ”,  but all he can do as he turns to him is frown.  either he’s obvious or fernand’s just accustomed to picking up on his shortcomings;  whatever the case may be,  it’s not the least bit comforting.

        “  exams are coming up,  as you know,  so i can’t afford to waste time.  ”

                    Oh he was such a pain. Fernand couldn’t help but think to himself all but sighing at the other’s response. Frankly if it weren't for the concern of the other staff members and the occasional student he wouldn’t be here. It was so much easier for him to keep his nose out of the business of people he disliked ( Lukas ) but here he was anyway, on the behalf of others. Wasn’t he so kind ? And yet despite this, the ginger blatantly ignored what he had said. Perhaps it would be easier to personally carry the other out of the room and toss him into his truck, though for whatever reason he opted for the more uncomfortable method.  

                    “ Yes I’m aware. ” He answered flatly. ( It was almost as if he ALSO had exams to plan..!! )  “ Even so that doesn’t change what I said. Everyone else is going home, don’t get self important and run yourself ragged on ‘ your students ’ behalf. ” He continued, glaring at the other with just as much malice as was usual whenever the universe demanded they crossed paths. Perhaps even more in a moment if the other didn’t change his attitude. 

                   “ If you don’t perhaps I should stay behind to make sure that half of your tests aren’t baseless nonsense that will trouble your students even more. ” Brown eyes flicked to a nearby chair, tucked away in a desk. It wasn’t like he WANTED to sit and watch him work, but he would be damned if the fawning of the other staff members didn’t cease because of a certain someone overworking himself.

        ❝ Nope, i have to give some out.❞ Being scolded for keeping it all to himself—though he did share, sometimes—was a pain.❝ But… you know, that isn’t going stop me from keeping some to myself. ❞

                  “ Alright — then gimme some more. ” He didn’t actually really care about the candy — he had as much of a sweet tooth as the next guy. But something about being openly jipped...

                 There was only a quick glance before the man swiped the book off of his desk and promptly shoved it into a drawer before whipping his head to look at the white haired young man.

                  “ Really Kliff — was that really necessary ?? ” It wasn’t like Fernand didn’t know what this was about — however that didn’t mean this was the time or place. ( Of course he couldn’t speak for his students behalf but he didn’t imagine ANYONE wanted to talk about their teacher’s sexuality or general romantic life. ) I“ Did you at least grab what I asked you to ? ” he sighed rubbing his temples, deciding not to properly address the elephant in the room.

                 Honestly… How could someone who doesn’t even go here anymore cause him so much trouble?

Kliff·:

          “  But I don’t  WANT  to !  ”  He didn’t mean to snap—in fact, the emotion was reeled back within just a few seconds— but it was hard to not feel cornered on the matter. Forced to partake in something he simply wasn’t comfortable with. Kliff wasn’t an idiot, he knew exactly what the purpose of the additional ‘ course ’ was. Make friends. Build up your college application. Socialize.

     But he was a bit of a flawed child from the start and his interests were few. Fernand was  TRYING  but Kliff wasn’t accepting.

          “  One mark won’t hurt my grades. And even if I  DO  go it’s not going to have the outcome you want. Can’t I just get extra assigned reading or something ? Add in more essays too for all I care. I’ll do them.  ”

               It was hard to resist a sigh, but for the sake of not being misinterpreted he tried his best. He wasn’t annoyed with Kliff himself, no. He had been working around children far too long for this to be the thing to set him off — especially when this is far from the worst thing that he’s had to deal with in his professional life or otherwise. That didn’t mean that this situation in itself was any less frustrating nonetheless.. 

               “ I know, Kliff. ” He spoke, trying to acknowledge what he was saying, before continuing. Straightening his back to no longer be leaning on the counter, it seemed their ‘ father-son-bonding ’ moment has fleeted. 

              “ Look, if you’re that against it let’s make a deal. I want you to attend at least ONE meeting for an extracurricular of your choosing — and stay the whole time. If you truly and absolutely hate it that much, I won’t make you go again and just give you the extra assignments. I just need you to try, okay ? ”
