if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.

What sort of timeline would advance readers be on?
also, i get that it's not out yet, but it sounds like a way of supporting you after Grist to the Cannon is released would be to get our local libraries to order your book?
OH oh I forgor: May is your last chance to set up a donation if you want in on the next round of postcards!! KC's mail rewards start at 2 dollars a month; you can find goals for the project and all the different methods of pledging next to examples of previous sets on the site!

Kidd Commander is completely crowdfunded and literally every bit helps; right now I make a little under 900 a month (I report my monthly earnings publicly on my newsletter) and we are getting by but it's still fairly precarious, so if you've been enjoying either the comics or the prose please consider pitching in to help me keep making it. Thank ya!

Kidd Commander is a comic about a woman who was murdered by god and got so mad about it she resurrected herself to kill him back. Our crew gets dragged through the mud quite a bit, but ultimately it's an optimistic story about disenfranchised people converting their spite into power to make a better world or die trying.
Are you someone eternally lamenting the lack of queer shounen stories? You found one! Lucky you.
I've been making it for a long time now, so there's a lot for you to read! The entire main canon is freely available online because of the kind support of its few but enthusiastic readers, and that will be the case as long as I can help it. If you'd like to get reminders about updates here on tumblr, you can follow the blog @kidd-commander.
Thank you for reading!

(There are also prose novel adaptations on the way! You can find more about those on shinesurge.net )

On April 16th 2025 the US federal government has proposed to change the interpretation of the endangered species act so that it no longer protects habitat.
This is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.
Wildlife need their habitat. If the ESA redefines harm so that habitat is no longer protected, the implications for wildlife would be catastrophic.

wow, that's really clever plotting to make things fit like that
Monterey Goddard was an asshole for a lot of reasons and I understand why most people focus on his mistreatment of Agatha (WHICH I'm ALSO happy about since that was Her arc) but someday I would love to see meta about how horrifically parasocial he was with Ulrich as a celebrity. I'm still really pleased with him as a complicated villain with a lot of different stuff going on but I've always thought of him as a dangerously obsessed fan archetype primarily. My opinion shouldn't weigh it for fandom interpretations or anything BUT in my heart Monterey is first and foremost a guy that would have broken Ulrich's legs with a sledgehammer if they hung out enough times
#kidd commander#it's probably something you do a lot#but i haven't thought about it before so I'm impressed regardless#webcomics

DOGE just froze funding to vital Federal and Indigenous conservation programs devoted to supporting the very delicate and tenuous existence of the black-footed ferret.
I fell in love with these animals as a kid traveling to our National Parks. Their rarity and ferocity made me sharply aware, even as a child, of just how much of a responsibility we have toward our environment. I can't bear the thought of them being a fucking casualty of Trump and Musk.

Look at them! They do war dances.

you're kinda both missing something here. If everyone in the Holocaust had a trial — even a sham trial — it would not have been as bad. Trials require a judge's time. There aren't that many judges. Everything would be a lot slower, and the number of casualties simply could not have been even close to the real number.
Interesting in the context of El Salvador prisons…

As a sequel to this, if you want to learn more about how git works, there's tutorials in its documentation that go further in depth.
Some things that aren't in the interactive link above which I've found handy below the cut
What if you want to learn about every commit that is part of newBranch but not part of commit c1? (If there's no merges this just means every commit between c1 and newBranch). You can use:
log c1..newBranch
to only see that. (You can actually use this <commit-ish>..<commit-ish> notation anywhere that would accept a list of commits, like cherry-pick)
What if you have two branches, nextRelease and pastReleaseFixes, and the tree is too complicated and big to follow how they connect, but you know something going into nextRelease fixed something that's broken in pastReleaseFixes, and that it's related to the file my/important/file.cpp?
git log pastReleaseFixes..nextRelease -- my/important/file.cpp
Will show you only commits that are in nextRelease (but not pastReleaseFixes), and filter that to only commits that touched the file you care about. (You can actually choose a function or series of lines in the file, too). See
A different bug fixing option is git bisect. You tell it about a time when things were bad and a time when things were good, and it picks a place in the middle for you to check. Even with 1000 commits to go through, it'll find the problem in only ten tries!
Fancier than I am includes stuff like how git is properly decentralized. You can have more than one remote, such as the computer of each person you're working with, if you don't like showing your work to a company. That's why git wants you to say origin — you could say something else and it would go to a different place
Me upon discovering an online game that helps you learn git: haha I've been using git for years now, I could skip ahead many levels, methinks hahaha no, no, I'll be humble and start on level 1
Me on level 5: You can do what??? There are commands for what???
#git#tutorial#honestly i spent at least an hour writing this#i probably have better things to do#but#nerdsniped
