💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

elodie — every emotion but especially guilt, regret and melancholy. she inherited her mother's erratic temperament (and surely some kind of disorder) and it makes the lows really difficult to deal with.

cian — frustration and anger. they're so foreign to him and he's really reaching a breaking point in terms of being able to cope, made worse by the lingering sense of wrongness brought on by mercy's distress.

imbris — want. "the enormity of my desire disgusts me" etc. it makes him feel young and stupid and vulnerable, and once he starts wanting one thing it's hard not to let it spread to everything else he's ever longed for. he has no interest in knowing how deep that chasm runs. better to convince himself he doesn't need or want anything!

😨 FEARFUL - when scared, do they go into “flight” or “fight”?

elodie — freeze and/or flight. she'll definitely fight if she has to, especially if there's a reason to, but when she's scared her instinct is just to shut down. (she was a bold child and is now a very Not Brave adult)

cian — it depends a lot on who he's with and what's at stake. he would always prefer flight, but if there are people who need help or an issue that must be addressed he'll swallow the fear and fight.

imbris — running is always his preference (whether the threat is physical or emotional) but if that's off the table he'll fight and pretend he's not scared, that this was his goal the whole time.

🍧 SHAVED ICE - do they still have any objects from their childhood? what significance does it have to them? what would their reaction be if they lost it?

elodie — she has one of leon's jackets that she was wearing during the evacuation, but she left it in marona for safekeeping. now that she's reunited with leon she wouldn't be quite as devastated if anything happened to it, but it was still a huge comfort item and she's pretty attached. everything else she carried with her on the ship was either outgrown or worn out, including her original tambourine. (i'm 50/50 on whether she ended up taking anything of sora's, but if she did she's definitely kept it. god i wish i could remember what i said in-game)

cian — nope. he left home with only the clothes on his back, and it's been a long time since then. (he was still technically a child when he met nanna so that's the closest we're gonna get. needless to say he would be fucking devastated if anything happened to her)

imbris — hmm i don't think so? i doubt there was anything worth holding onto from his childhood. perhaps some small token or gift from a friend, but i don't have any specifics in mind, and he probably lost it somewhere along the way regardless.

🌏 EARTH - will they give up the world for someone they love? is this decision easy for them?

elodie — if it were a life or death situation she'd give up anything and everything for the people she loves, with the kind of ease that leans towards selfishness. she's barely been able to live with herself in the wake of watcher's eye and she'd go to any lengths to protect what she has left. the safety of her friends and family take priority over everything, even her desire to fix things, or the desire to be loved by them. (if it's not a life or death situation things get a little more complicated. she's hurt plenty of people she cares about. she struggles to give people all of herself)

cian — he'd give everything for a stranger, let alone someone he loves. the only time it gets complicated is when he has to start weighing up the broader cost; he'll put himself at risk, but he doesn't want to endanger other people, and he's aware that the sort of personal sacrifices he's willing to make might have wider repercussions. it would break him if he had to choose between saving an individual and saving the world.

imbris — yes but it wouldn't be an easy decision, and i can count on two fingers the people he loves that much. he's been prioritising his own survival and fleeting happiness for so long that it'd be going against his instincts, but he'd still do it.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

elodie — answered!

cian — i was either going to play a blood mage or a spirit healer, but taking into account the timescales we're working with in vigilant i thought it would be fun to play a healer who has to reckon with the violence of a blight. it had been a while since i'd played an unapologetically kind character, and i wanted to go all in. i also thought the dreamer/spirit stuff was super interesting in the games and wanted to play around with that a bit, and kite was super helpful in making it work!

imbris — it's been so long and he was also kind of a random one-shot character so my memories of his creation are pretty hazy, but i'm pretty sure "gremlin-coded thief" was the energy i had in mind. i think i'd only recently learned what genasi were and thought it would be fun to design one. i also figured out i could kind of do a gavin free-esque english accent but only if i was super squawky and indignant, so his personality developed from there 💀

🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE - when is their birthday? do they like celebrating it?

elodie — tentatively saying that her birthday is july 19th, making her a cancer (on the cusp of leo). she hates celebrating her birthday but will tolerate something small and private because alis would be upset otherwise. it just makes her feel like shit. she doesn’t see the point of celebrating another year of life when guilt and regret weigh so heavily on her, and when she feels certain people's absence so keenly.

ozy — his birthday is january 21st (he's an aquarius). he doesn't personally remember the exact date of his birthday and isn't really one to celebrate anyway, but in theory he would enjoy a small gathering of friends or a nice dinner with kallux. i love the idea of scratch just Choosing a birthday for him at some point. get celebrated idiot.

lysander — no idea when his birthday is but i think he's a pisces. he partially enjoyed celebrating his birthday in brighthorne (the part where he'd hit the town with algernon or spend time with florienne) but the high society gathering™ side of things was not his scene. in the clanlands his birthday was a non-event (or at most a miserable remembrance alone in his tent) but post-game he could be persuaded into enjoying it again, if it were spent in good company.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

elodie — her creation happened in such a weird order. the very first thing i decided was that i wanted to play a PC with really long hair 😭 i decided i wanted to play a charisma caster (either bard or warlock), and i knew i wanted to play a really rambunctious child (something very different from ozy to stretch the RP muscles). once we reached the timeskip i was a little torn on which direction to take her in, but the deciding factor was how much i wanted to try out the college of dance subclass - which meant i got to use the sad jester aesthetic i’d been considering for her.

ozy — he was very much shaped by the lore my DM gave me when i came in to guest! the idea of a godless graeco-roman city lying half-ruined in the desert, a king ruling with an iron fist, a culture built upon trading secrets. paladin was one of the most interesting options on the table since i could be involved with the owl (who would become the traveller, which i simply couldn’t resist for prior campaign reasons). i came up with this vision of a guy who was so removed from and at ease with the world, and that vision became gradually more terrible as i realised how exactly he fit into the city. i liked the idea of him using a coin to make decisions (à la harvey dent) because he was so detached from everything.

lysander — my two ideas for a good society PC were 1.) disillusioned jester ready to retire and 2.) pardoned traitor readjusting to high society. in the end the second concept worked better for the setting, since there had canonically been an attempted coup a decade prior, so lysander just slid right into place! i went with eladrin because i hadn't played one before and a long-lived species worked well for my idea of a highly respected, well-established family. after that his personality kind of just manifested, with more than a little influence from ozy (sad pathetic men were the flavour of the month).

👑 CROWN - what does your oc want to be remembered as? why?

elodie — half the time she wants to fade away into obscurity. the other half of the time she's desperate to feel like she matters to anyone. she has no desire to be remembered by the world at large (even as a performer the spotlight matters very little to her, it's all about the craft) but when she received the letter from "bug" it loosened something in her chest, to learn that someone still thought about her, even if she felt undeserving of the remembrance (and then it was a ploy and she felt horrific and wanted to disappear). i guess she would like to be remembered as loyal, and sorry, and someone dedicated to her craft.

ozy — he tries not to think about it. even the idea of being known and believed in enough to become a demigod makes him uncomfortable. i suppose he would like to be remembered by his friends as someone who always tried, for better or worse, to do what he thought was right - and that he was committed to ensuring his version of right would never again cause the kind of pain he wrought on asdor. he'd like to be remembered as someone who didn't waste their chance at redemption.

lysander — lysander is going to be remembered by history whether he wants to or not, and he's made his peace with that. in his most selfish, private moments he'd like to be remembered as a flawed man with good intentions, but he also feels that he doesn't deserve that kind of grace. mostly he'd like to be remembered by the people around him as someone who really tried his best.

🌈 RAINBOW - what advice would they give to their younger self?

elodie — don't take that notice from the town board. don't stick your nose into things you shouldn't. just do as you're fucking told.

ozy — he feels completely unqualified to give advice, even to himself (maybe especially to himself). i don't think he'd know how to even begin. what could he say, to save himself from the grief and apathy and manipulation? perhaps some kind of awkward, stilted reminder that the ephemeral nature of something doesn't make it less valuable - that to forsake feeling entirely is to forsake your humanity.

lysander — dragons are not the answer. (more broadly: there is an entire world outside of brighthorne and there are many different ways to help people)
