quick lil 2025 snapedefense update…
i am still alive! i recently redownloaded tumblr (for fandom content, nothing is new) and scrolled through an absurd amount of old meta & memes & asks i posted on here 6-7 years ago… and now i’m in my feels.
if it wasn’t glaringly obvious, i started this blog when i was #Young and #goingthroughit. being on here gave me such a fabulous community of friends and reminded me that i love literature and transformative media—what i’m now getting my degree in!
i can’t tell how many of the wonderful people i interacted with back then are still active here, but if you are… dm me! i’d love to hear from you or exchange contact info!
finally, as a precautionary blanket statement on old posts: i don’t stand by everything i said on this blog (i’m sure i must have had one or two cringy takes)—but i do still love this character, and i will never stop defending him in my heart <3

Someone on the Harry Potter subreddit posted a screenshot of your professor snivellus post 🤣
it’s been 2 years since my last post on here but i have risen from the dead because of this ask (and because seeing the professor snivellus screenshot on r/harrypotter gave me whiplash)

It’s been years since I’ve read GOF, but after a rewatch, I was wondering why Snape didnt do more this year to protect Harry? Like knowing that was his mission, why didnt he try to help more behind the scenes instead of having moody keep an eye on him. Just seems odd he would sit back this year. An example being snape being the one to put the gillyweed idea in nevilles head. Seems odd he had little to nothing to do with helping Harry this book. With it being a reoccurring theme in each.
that’s a good point. iirc, GOF wasn’t a very snape-centric book, but he did help out at the end by giving the veritaserum for crouch jr & going off on his double-agent mission. harry also overhears him and karkaroff talking about the dark mark hurting & snape was keeping an eye on moody which must’ve kept him busy :)

Oh, I feel what that other anon said... I know what video they're talking about, it was an analysis about the difference between book and movie snape, but I didn't even watch it because of that comment. And it makes me sad because it's not like I can't handle people disagreeing with me, but why would you jump into such a conclusion? It's like we can have civil interaction with these people, they act like liking a character is a question of morality.
ah jeez, i feel you. the reason i’ve been a lot more inactive is because i’m tired of antis who make a big fuss over how liking a fictional character proves that you have no moral compass or some bs. there’s no way you can have a conversation with someone who says “well you disagree with me, so you must love child abuse, nazis, and everything that is wrong with the world”

I’ve been stewing on this for a min and rly wanna hear your thoughts. We know that JKR put a p big emphases on “kind vs unkind” > “good vs bad” (ie the marauders were gryffindors but bullies; snape was flawed but saved the world; and perhaps the BIGGEST example: Sirius could have lived if he had just taken hermione’s advice and been NICER to his house elf). My theory is that in the same vein as the kreacher arc, Peter was probably lightly bullied by his “best friends”, leading to the betrayal...
not sure if there’s a second part to this ask, but interesting start! i’m assuming that you’re saying that since peter felt inadequate compared to the marauders, he betrayed them?

There are people who ship Hermione with a sadistic racist who literally tortured Neville's parents into insanity and say Snape wouldn't be good to Lily because he *might've* tortured people. I HAVE to laugh.
right???

sorry to bring this to you but i’m so tired of the unending hatred if snape. like i can’t scroll the tag for even a minute before some jackass with a computer decides to give their very inaccurate two cents on a character they’ve so clealry chosen to hate for no actual valid reason. and to see those posts have dozens of notes with people agreeing is so disheartening and then those who actually like his character are immediately sold off as ”snape wives” who just like him bc of alan’s performance
yeah, i definitely feel that. i’ve seen so many posts against snape fans that more or less say we’re all those fan girls who think we’re married to alan rickman. not saying those people don’t exist but that definitely doesn’t describe all of us.

i just wanna say i love your account so much. like i’ll scroll through the snape tag looking for some good shit about my boy and every tWo goDdamn seconds some anti snape post pops up and every time whatever bs they’ve typed has had me going did you even rEad the books??? like it is one thing to dislike a character but another thing to dedicate your existence to making posts solely to flame them, and with really inaccurate info too. anyway i just wanted to say your account is a godsend ❤️❤️
hey, thank you for this message anon! it’s always so gd annoying to see so many anti posts, most of which r just pure ignorance and i’m glad my account helps you out!

I just clicked a fuqing youtube video character analysis about Snape and the top comment was literally that bs "ya know if harry was a GIRL and looked like LILY snape would've been a PEDO". And it just soured it so much for me and i left the video. I know the person wasn't directing an attack at anyone. But it just feels like they're saying anyone in this fandom is defending pedophilia and that makes me so uncomfortable.
it’s literally the most stupid argument ever. if you think that adults automatically want to have sex with children of their old friends/lovers, that says a lot more about you than anyone else.

right, but the twins can do no wrong 😍! they’re harry’s morally pure prankster gryffindor friends after all. and snape is obviously evil because he is none of the above
This is the third time I’m reading the books and I tried to get over the fact that the weasley twins stuffed a salamander with fireworks but just couldn’t
and they killed ron's puffskein :(

i've been getting into snape and so your posts have been really interesting to read--and ~validating~. i do have one thing i'm not sure about though and it's the "what do the marauders bring to the story?" re: sirius? b/c i believe that besides harry's emotional arc, the PoA himself is obviously important to PoA (lol). so i am curious about it. angelic marauders fandom kills me, but i do love sirius as a character. i honestly feel like we know more about his bg than certain mains like hermione.
it’s awesome to hear from you, anon! ive been trying to find the post that you’re referring to but i can’t seem to. but yes - i totally agree that sirius is quite obviously a main character and his arc was crucial to defining harry as an adult ... and also quite a bit of PoA and OotP. i used to be strongly anti-sirius (which was probably 80% bc of, as you mentioned, the overwhelming “angelic marauders” attitude in the fandom) but ive grown to appreciate certain parts of his character and obviously no one can deny the impact he has on the story.
