how to the kiddos refer to their fathers ?? do they just refer to frederick , orpheus , and nightmare as father ?

Kind of. They use father and dad interchangeably for the three but tend to use father more for Frederick and nightmare and dad more for Orpheus.

Corbyn as Ornithologist sometimes throws in a “pops” or “old man” when referring to Orpheus or Nightmare too.

I’m plagued with thoughts of this situation with Nightmare and the kiddos so I gotta share the whole thing NOW before I explode.

Frederick and Orpheus are usually the ones that take care of the children, so if Nightmare were to be charged with watching them for a bit while Frederick is out, he probably wouldn’t know what to do with them 😭. He loves his kids, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think he’d be the best at keeping them entertained and such when they’re so young. He’d just set them down in a little area with toys and has the ravens on babysitting duty while he’s writing.

Calliope would be perfectly content with watching the birds hop around, but Corbyn would be a little more restless, playing with his toys for a bit before getting bored and beelining it to his father’s desk.

Eventually, Nightmare feels something bumping into him and tiny hands tugging at his pant leg and hair feathers, looking down to see his son staring up at him and reaching out to be picked up. There’s a bit of a back and forth for a while as Nightmare gets up to put Cory back in the play area, but the little guy always comes back to bother his papa until the hunter eventually gives in and sits with his children.

Calliope is still occupied with snuggling one of the ravens, so his attention is mainly on Cory. He’s a bit unsure of how to interact with him then as he isn’t really built to handle such a small and fragile little thing, but since the kid has no interest in the toys anymore, he resigns to letting Cory climb all over him and play with his feathers. He watches him pat at the black plumage and grab at his claws for a while before eventually reaching out to gently ruffle his son’s hair, emitting a warped coo as his little raven giggles joyfully.

The sweet moment is then interrupted by a small but sharp pain in Nightmare’s scalp as Calliope yanks out one of his hair feathers to play with, earning a pained grunt and a tired sigh from her father as he watches her wave it around like a ribbon.

(I also think it would be funny to have Frederick come home to see Nightmare passed out snoring with the twins snoozing on his lap AND all the ravens sleeping on him too. Big ol’ nap pile :] )

do the kids have relations to other characters inside the manor or survivors that had participated the games?

That’s actually something I’ve been thinking about lately! Well—trying to.

So far, the possible relationships I’ve thought of between the twins and other characters are still confined within the rest of the aom group. I’m just figuring out the specifics of dynamics now/how the kids view them.

Beyond the main cast, I think I’d like to come up with connections for them with Martha and Luchino too to start. I believe there’s potential to explore there.

Realized what day it was earlier & decided to make this short & silly video idea I’ve had for a bit with Orpheus & Calliope.

Had a cute idea of Frederick and the kids doing a little braid train.

Calliope has fun at the front getting her hair braided by their father but Cory’s hair is too short so he’s at the back of the train and clearly struggling to figure out what to do with all of Frederick’s hair.

What's Calliope's and Corbyn's relationship with their father like?

Welllll that depends on which father and what story path is taken.

I’ve thought of 2 or 3 possible ideas where they’re raised within the manor or raised by Frederick alone at first (more canon compliant). I haven’t settled on which I like more, but all of the options have the twins in a positive relationship with their dads. Either immediate or eventually. (I’ll go with what I’ve thought of so far for the former though so it’s not too long)

Calliope and Corbyn are quite close with Frederick and he would spoil them whenever he could as children. He let them pick out something whenever he brought them into town and got them to share his liking of crème brûlée despite Orpheus’ warnings of the kids growing too spoiled and developing too much of a sweet-tooth. There was also the aforementioned bonding activities and lessons with him from a previous post that both kids always looked forward to even into adulthood.

They greatly admired Orpheus and his writing growing up, often sneaking his novels from the library to read in secret before eventually getting caught and having them taken away for not being suitable for them at such a young age. He’d bring home different books aligning with their interests as a surprise and even gift them a few from his own library. They were mainly guides on the subject of ornithology for Corbyn and others for basic herbal identification and uses for Calliope.

Finally with Nightmare, the twins would constantly bother him as children and trail close behind him wherever he went like little baby birds. His ravens would be promoted to babysitting duty a lot while he was busy, but eventually he’d be forced to give up his work and end up sat with the kids (mainly Cory) climbing all over him of him and playing with his feathers. He was the one that originally sparked Cory’s fascination for avian life—perks of having a bird monster with a flock of several corvids for a dad—which he could not be more grateful for, and in Calliope’s adult years, she would come to greatly admire her father’s work when the games were still going on. Asking about them and how the drugs used on participants were produced with much enthusiasm. It’s a bit odd, but the two delight in their conversations about such topics.

It’s rlly messy but I made a concept sketch for Calliope’s hunter switch. She looks just like her papa :]

The bird she carries is named Percival & I haven’t decided which type of raptor he will be yet…I’m considering a few different species such as a Harris’s hawk, sparrowhawk, red-tailed hawk, or a peregrine falcon. There’s too many good choices but I’m sure I’ll settle on one soon that best compliments her appearance.

A little! He is somewhat like Frederick, but he doesn’t show as many similarities with him as Calliope does with Orpheus.

He doesn’t share his feelings of insecurity, sharp tongue, nor his secretive nature. Instead, Corbyn is more of an amiable and excitable young man, and the only things personality-wise that they have in common is their sensitivity & appreciation for aesthetics. I will say that Cory’s is more reserved for the beauty of nature though.

Beyond personality, they do have overlapping interests like music and trail riding.

Cory is largely unbothered by the standards his father’s side of the family is held to or their strive to be exceptional in the artistic world. He and his sister would take lessons from Frederick as kids, and although he does indeed love playing, he finds it’s a little more of a fun hobby to him rather than something he relies on or is greatly passionate about.

As for trail riding, I just think it’s only natural for Frederick to get him into horseback riding too as another bonding activity. Works pretty well for them 👍🏽

When making both of the Kreiburg children, I wanted to follow the DeRoss’ example of having birds associated with them. Like how Orpheus/nightmare is a raven and Alice a nightingale.

Corbyn I feel is a magpie: an observant and curious boy, and an avid collector of anything he deems worthy of displaying on his shelves. Rocks, shiny objects, small trinkets, reptile sheds, bird feathers, his collection is constantly growing! He even has a magpie as part of his skills as a survivor as well as two raven companions for surveillance and protection.

Calliope’s bird assignment I’m still working out, but even with the appearance fit for a sweet songbird, she better fits the criteria of a raptor (birds of prey). Especially since she has a talent for falconry and utilizes the cooperative hunting skills of her raptor companion in both of her identities. Like those keen-eyed hunting birds, she’s a meticulous individual that plots the perfect course of action for pursuing something once she sets her sights on it.

Oh where do I even start! — no seriously where I have no idea 😭

I made Calliope back in February to be my second Orphrick fan kid. The daughter in a set of twins.

She’s still a character in the works and I’m currently writing her introductions, but I will say that although she inherited her delicate and melancholy appearance from Frederick, she has a little more in common with her other fathers (Orpheus & Nightmare) personality-wise.

She shares Nightmare’s interest/talent in pharmacology, which contributes to my decision to make her survivor ID an apothecary. And despite her outwardly courteous demeanor, she inherited the cunning and arrogance of both Nightmare and Orpheus with an additional short temper when her own standards aren’t met and her work is disrupted due to her own mistakes or those out of her control.

In addition to her survivor ID, she also has a hunter ID switch I’ve started designing too :]
