in which i put sam in a timeloop

au idea idk what to do with so im setting it loose. feel free to borrow it if you wanna!

setup:

what is says on the tin! Sam wakes up in bed and does not resist the urge to get up and look out the window.

Sam wakes up in bed and decides not to look out the window.

The events of the game happen as usual but the loop is reset to day 1 every time sam dies or gets transformed/assimilated/unravelled/etc. He remembers previous "runs" but it takes a few loops for him to gain that awareness proper. The previous day is generally pretty hazy for him but certain details may stick out / he'll remember stuff that comes up a lot.

Supposedly the only way to break it is to get in contact with The Visitor. this locks this au into the completed ritual endings (denial/truth) who knows if this actually breaks it but he's BASICALLY immortal far as we know so it'll take him a while to find out

timeloop is only fully consistent on day 1 - the rest of the days will have little differences that can build up.

some other characters who get to be aware of the loop:

Sybil is sort of aware of the timeloop but I imagine it's about as hazy as her own memories so she gets really intense deja vu.

Jasper is also plagued with deja vu but he doesn't get to keep any loop memories.

Edwin: idk what he can do with this information.

Roaches: aware of the loop but doesnt care.

Mask: possibly aware????? idk to what degree or what they even do about it.

Spine: whatever edwin did to it let it retain vague loop memories. (better than sybil, worse than sam)

the fun stuff to consider for au:

sam having to go through the whole "OH I DIDNT REALISE YOU COULD SAVE JOEL"

sam, especially tired on one run, just letting in people that he knows are fine without any question and THEY start to worry that he's a serial killer or smth

Sam calling people by name before they get to introduce themselves

idk if he can HELP jeanne before it gets particularly bad but maybe he can check on on her more before the heads get a chance to eat too many ppl?

stops leigh's chase in her tracks by just giving her a really bored look. she's at a loss and really annoyed bc HEY. RUN, IDIOT. WOULD IT KILL YOU TO SCREAM A LITTLE?

gets into the darkroom at some point somehow (idk if violently or not. could be either) and gets to know abt lyle's project. fun!

tries to punk-proof his room. despite all his efforts it never works. he tries to make it as unappealing as possible and they just make fun of him for having a nasty bedroom as they take over it.

I am sad that I was at work during a part of today's stream where they talked about Spine and the idea of Spine being female and Frankie making it WAY MORE COMPLICATED by implying that there's a good likelihood that Spine is more than one person, and joked 'if Spine is 8 people that does bump up the stalker count'

I’ll tell ya what, I was sooooooo ready for Sam to just BURY that cleaver in Joel’s forehead since he was much further along in his deteriorating mental state than when Sam met him in canon, but I’m so glad he didn’t.

Because Sam had been wondering at everyone else in the tooth family’s lucidity! But if he’d brained Joel, he never would have known how close to saving he was

I do not have the balls to even think about killing Joel lol. I don't think Sam would be able to either. There's something different about attacking someone who's running at you full speed with the intent to kill, and a little boy slowly shambling up to you. Plus, given how in-game we see that Sam has nieces and nephews, I think he'd see a bit of them in Joel.
