had a dream i was hosting this zombie game thing with my friends and i was in charge of assigning them a type of sweet they use to get the other person out except every time i tried to use my phone to message them i couldnt type what i was trying to type and kept either typing nonsense or opening different apps and somehow i kept getting stuck in increasingly elaborate horrors trying to find them to tell them irl while my friends got more frustrated with me not assigning them a sweet

it really bugs me how the discourse online about Meaning in movies is so lynch-centered, not that i disagree w his stance but that it's so clear that everything in his works make sense to /him/. people seem to miss this part. like the whole 'no point in explaining' is obvious, but the conversation keeps getting closer to 'it doesnt have to mean anything' and it's a bit silly to me when you leave it at that. and 'sometimes things just need to look cool' is also pointless today when a lot of mainstream cinema doesn't even look good. so like. what!!!!! whenever i see people online arguing about the meaning of a film or its themes and how they circle back to 'it doesn't have to mean anything' i think of zulawski's commentary w daniel bird where bird keeps asking if something is intentional and zulawski is like '......yes, everything is intentional, we've been over this' and how when speaking about possession (to pick his one "mainstream" film) he talks about the monster about how after seeing scenes from a marriage he felt empty and his way of talking about his own marriage was thinking about fairy tales and the monster in the attic and his tone is like. isn't that obvious? like it makes sense to us too. and it DOES when watching the movie bc his vision is so deeply personal that how can you not feel it too. yes you don't need the director in your ear saying everything is meaningful but can we not lose the plot entirely. why do we have a director doing interviews being all 'i dont understand it either and thats what makes it important to me' and people clap sdfsdfsdf whatt are we doing.
