the average human lifespan globally is 70+ years

taking the threshold of adulthood as 18, you are likely to spend at least 52 years as a fully grown adult

at the age of 30 you have lived less than one quarter of your adult life (12/52 years)

'middle age' is typically considered to be between 45-65

it is extremely common to switch careers, start new relationships, emigrate, go to college for the first or second time, or make other life-changing decisions in middle age

it's wild that I even have to spell it out, but older adults (60+) still have social lives and hobbies and interests.

you can still date when you get old. you can still fuck. you can still learn new skills, be fashionable, be competitive. you can still gossip, you can still travel, you can still read. you can still transition. you can still come out.

young doesn't mean peaked. you're inexperienced in your 20s! you're still learning and practicing! you're developing social skills and muscle memory that will last decades!

there are a million things to do in the world, and they don't vanish overnight because an imaginary number gets too big

It’s so infuriating that teen smoking rates were at an all time low in the US and we were on track to basically eradicate smoking and nicotine addiction in teens like it was flat out uncool to smoke and then They came out with nicotine injector flash drives that light up and taste like cotton candy. there is also something kind of gross to me about the constant insinuations that the "questioning social norms" component of autism immediately turns every autistic person into a genderfuckery kinkster leftist who don't give a fuck. and I say this as someone who is a genderfuckery kinkster leftist. autism isn't a political alignment, it's a disability. sometimes the autism 'sense of justice' is wrong. sometimes an autistic person will find a home in conservative ideologies for many of the same reasons as other autistic people will find a home in communist ideologies. sometimes the autistic communist will come up with dogshit analysis even as they're guided by their sense of justice, because good political analysis isn't a feeling or a neurotype, it's a skill that you cultivate. I know it would be pleasant and emotionally soothing for you to be able to believe that autism turns someone into a superpowered leftist but it's a politically fraught and deeply questionable line of thought to be feeding into

I think people need to get used to the idea that most things happen by accident, including systems of oppression.

I've seen so many people talk about how certain types of discrimination exist specifically and deliberately to uphold capitalism or something, and most of the time they're just... things that happened. Bad habits we got into as a society, long before anyone alive today was born.

I really do think we need to stop saying "this behavior was designed to further systems of oppression," and start saying "this behavior does further systems of oppression, deliberately or not." It makes people more likely to listen to you, since you're not accusing them of being an evil oppressor who hurts people on purpose, and it makes you less likely to fall into conspiracy theories and us-vs-them thinking.

They don’t tell you this but physical health affects your mental health. But like. Subconsciously sometimes. The opposite of psychosomatic symptoms, your mental health tanks because your body is struggling in ways you have yet to notice. There have been multiple periods where I’ve been like “I’m so depressed right now and I’m not sure why, nothing in my life has changed and I’m on the same medications.” only to find out I was in a UC flareup or had a serious infection. The pathology results have made me pretty sure that’s what is going on now. But like, your body hits the distress button in any way it can. Which is why doctors immediately dismissing your symptoms if you have anxiety or depression is so ass, sometimes you’re extra depressed and anxious because something is wrong with you.
