Public Relations
I’m voting for the group that did Sony.
I think the group who practiced public relations for Sony would have the most success in their public relations strategy because of their appeal to the overall audience. The deflection of the “out of context” emails directly addressed the problem, stating that they were appealing to the industry as a whole. Along with establishing firewalls, Sony said they would work on damage control to ensure that all groups offended in the emails regain trust in them as a company. In addition, the new firewalls would be developed by the best in the business to ensure that those sort of emails would not be able to pass through the new firewalls. Lastly, those who were sending the emails would be punished as reparations for their actions

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/7648614 http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/22/politics/confederate-flag-walmart-south-carolina/ http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSL1N0Z900J20150623?irpc=932 http://www.cnbc.com/id/102781000 http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/06/23/south-carolina-lawmakers-to-discuss-confederate-flag-as-debate-stretches-to-miss-va/?postshare=1861435079036936 I tracked the original story from huffington post to several other reporters. I noticed that the huffington post changed the quotes content, and it took quotes from different parts of the article to create a different intention. So when target said they were removing the confederate glad from their store, the huffington post took quotes to make it seem like target condoned the flag, but would not be selling a single item related to the flag in their stores. Therefore, the huffington post can be unreliable.

This is the first chapter of an ongoing piece of fan fiction, it encompasses all 7 books, and is told entirely from Hermione’s point of view. Personally, I am a huge part of the Harry Potter fandom. Along with being sorted into my Hogwart’s house (Gryffindor), I have a fan fiction account on fan fiction.net, own several fan t-shirts, 2 wands (Harry and Ginny’s), can quote the books/movies from memory, and know most of the actors in said movies by name. When Quizup was a popular app, I was also one of the top players in Harry Potter trivia in the country. Basically, I am a total fangirl. From a fangirl’s point of view, I consider this a stellar piece of fan fiction. The author clearly understands the canon, and re-imagines Hermione as the main character. In this piece, we see Hermione’s bravery, and of course, intelligence as she guides Harry and Ron from one debacle to another. However, I also love this fan fiction because it accounts for scenarios that J.K. Rowling was not able to cover in the books. For example, this fan fiction gives coverage of Hermione’s feelings for Viktor Krum, and his adorable Yule Ball proposal. Also, Romione is clearly represented as Hermione directly states her love for Ron, rather than being skittered over as Harry initially misses the signs in the Golden Trio’s youth. This piece of fan fiction has produced for over two years, with 10,000s of followers, and over 100,000 words written during that time (to give context, the HP series as a whole was about 884,000 words), and currently the author is nearing the end of the Order of the Phoenix. I like what this author does with the text, because it respects the canon, while answering our few unanswered questions about Hermione’s character and provides fans another portal into the wonderful world of Harry Potter.

Modern family response
I enjoyed the episode for several reasons. For example, the graphics were extremely stellar. The moving web browser fields created visual interest, while helping the plot to be continually engaging. The plot itself was easy to understand, and riddled with humor. I was easily able to follow the story, which helped me to engage with the characters. However, when I previously watched modern family I always enjoyed the frequent asides to see what each character thought about an event. While the plot was admittedly less complex than a usual episode, I missed the asides, even though it would have been difficult to incorporate into the episode itself. I evaluated this episode based on my personal criteria for TV shows. I like shows that incorporate good humor, engaging plot lines, and interesting characters. Modern family has always had interesting and innovative humor throughout all 6 seasons. In addition, their plot lines have remained almost entirely throughly engaging, despite some mishaps in the plot line during the earlier seasons, such as Haley's expulsion from college. Moreover, the characters themselves are quality. Each character has quirks and idiosyncrasies. Even better, most of the time the characters behave in an intellectual matter. Overall, I enjoyed this episode as I enjoy the show overall.

John Green Video
This connects to the model of the Hunger Games we saw today. John Green says he values community and engagement on Youtube, and advertisers want fangirls/boys to feel part of the community. Both parties appeal to a large demographic for this reason, because of a persons desire to belong. There are several challenges advertisers will face when marketing to this demographic, one of which could be frustration among viewers. Personally, I become agitated and irritated when I see an ad on youtube, especially because I am usually forced to watch the ad several times. If advertisers start to advertise on Youtube, they will have to find the most effective way to keep the ads subtle, while still being considered an ad. Another challenge advertisers will face is creating the community vibe. For a film like the Hunger Games, creating a community on Youtube would be rather easy. The film has millions of followers already, and continues to grow every day. However, for products like lipstick or febreeze, creating this vibe is considerably more difficult because there is a lack of preconditioned interest in teenagers.

This gif displays anchorage as well as indexical symbols. The anchorage of the word PEASANT, sets the mood for the gif-which is meant to be humorous. In addition, the “hashtag” provides a hipster aspect as an indexical symbol that shows the modern, funny, and “cool” aspects of the gif. The hashtag is an indexical symbol because it is universal recognized in the general community, however, the so called “hashtag” does not really look like a hashtag, plus this symbol is also recognized as the pound key and the number symbol. Overall, this gif is humorous and allows us to connect to George’s reaction, while having a good laugh as a result.

Communication assignment 1
<p>I am taking mass comm because I want to learn how to communicate with others to help me with public speaking. As a forensicator, I frequently compete in public speaking competitions, my category this year was sales. In sales, I found that I struggled to communicate why people should buy my product, and to present my information in a logical way. I hope that by understanding the process of communication, it will help me to communicate information with others to become a more effective forensicator and leader at my school. In addition, I am also taking communications to learn about the quirks of the human social pattern. I have always been fairly fascinated by the odd quirks of the human brain, for example, how every person filters light into different individual colors that are a slightly different hue. I imagine that there are other equally fascinating odd little quirks about the social patterns of humans, and I am excited to learn and discover each one. Another reason I am excited to study communications is my understanding of English. In my English class this year, I was always fascinated by how each person interpreted the subject material into different thoughts and then reaching their own individual conclusion. I began to become curious about this process, because even though we all come from different backgrounds and experiences, is there a common ground in our different interpretations. I am also curious if we all have similar ideas, but simply misunderstand each other in the process of communication. I hope to learn what factors help lead each person to an individual conclusion, and how we can all communicate our extremely different and diverse ideas. I also wonder if like Burke says, these common interactions apply to the definition of man. I’d like to discover how this definition of plan applies to every person and how it changes in different cultures. Overall, over the next two weeks, I want to discover how and why humans interact with each other, as it relates to my everyday situation, and to Burkes definition. I would also like to discover how I can apply this knowledge to my everyday life in order to become an effective leader and forensicator in my enviornment. #BUSC1#M1#sofiaspencer
