Material and technological choices
When writing my source-based article, inquiry-based research project and c-in-3g, I make sure that I have a lot of information on my topic before I start writing. I go through sources that I find through the CofC database, and popular sources, and compile information before I start writing. Then when I get a general idea of what I’m going to write I open a google docs page and start writing, integrating the ideas and quotes from the sources as I go. I develop my paper as I’m writing it; I don’t always start out with a clear path.

Group 4 Blog
The annotating and reading activity showed me that it’s important to exert relevant information from a long text. Some academic journals are upwards of 20 pages, and instead of spending time reading the entire thing word for word, its important to be able to skim and find the information that’s relevant to your writing. In the writing/ research process, this annotating and reading strategy is very helpful. It lets you view many journals in a short amount of time, instead of spending all your time reading one journal and getting confused on the main ideas. Paying attention to the title, abstract, intro/ conclusion, and looking at any charts or graphs that the text provides, is very helpful in extracting key information in an academic journal.

Research 1st v 2nd project
Drafting and revising this research project has been different than drafting and revising the first one for a number of reasons. While the first project was analyzing a political speech using genre, rhetorical situation and audience, the second project was analyzing a research topic and providing insight to back up the research question. The first project revolved around a few sources that we used in class, while the second project was open to any source that we wanted to use.

Research experience
Throughout middle school and high school, while writing research papers I used my school’s library database and credible sources from the internet to conduct my research. I checked out books from the library, found sources through the library database, and used popular sources to get enough research for my topic. I’m most comfortable using sources I find from the library database, and credible articles online. I usually don't use Wikipedia because of how much it’s been condemned by teachers and administration in the past. I plan on approaching this research project, by first finding academic journals, books and articles through the CofC library database, and then finding popular sources to fill in any gaps in research that I have.

4th hour; 3/28
Other than writing academic essays, the genre’s I write in are usually text messages and emails. When I'm trying to reach my friends I’ll send them a text, which will usually turn into us talking casually. I also have a few text group chats, based on classes, and friend groups. I’ll usually send emails if I’m trying to contact someone in a position of power, like a teacher, boss, or adult. Other than that, I made a prom Facebook group once so that everyone can send their dresses, and no one would wear the same dress.
The C in 3 project will be different than the first two projects, because we will have to further develop our research paper and relate it back to the three genres that we choose to discuss. We will also have to add a rhetorical reflection to our paper, which reflects on the connection between the first and the second projects.

Source based article writing process
The reading activity showed me that when reading a scholarly article, its important to remain focused and extract information relevant to your paper. These articles are usually pretty long, so tuning on key parts of the article can be very helpful. I found that paying attention to the abstract, subtitles, charts, article text, and conclusion are helpful in extracting information from the article. This exercise showed me that subtitles can be extremely helpful, because your introduced to the information about to be said, which can help you determine if its relevant to your writing. While skimming a scholarly article, it’s important to be an active reader and to focus on what information you need going forward, rather than trying to read the whole article word by word and ultimately getting overwhelmed by all the information.

What is a writing process? What do you know about your writing process? What sources of experience are you drawing from?
A writing process is a series of steps that one goes through before he has completed his final draft of work. A writing process includes brainstorming ideas, drafting your work, revising your work, and editing your work. The writing process is tedious and meticulous, and can be very time consuming. Personally, my writing process starts with me brainstorming ideas and putting my thoughts to paper. First, I research my topic of writing, so that I can provide a strong argument, or thesis, and then I work from there. After completing my first draft of work, I edit my paper and try to incorporate more ideas and details into my writing. After editing my paper, I’ll often show a friend or teacher and ask for his input. After revising the piece again, I reach a final draft. The sources of experience that I’m drawing from are mostly persuasive essays analytical essays, research papers, and reflections that I’ve had to do for school.
