Okay, so, funny story: I bought this one issue of Sport-Auto (n°198, from July 1980) in impulse. I originally was looking for the magazine's 1978 24 Hours of Le Mans report - because I was then researching it for shit and giggles - but just clicked "order" on this one when coming across it because, I mean... Of course I was going to buy the French Connection Special??? Your Honour I've had a lowkey obsession with this specific lineup's existence for the past few months???
Anyway, this cover was referring to a three-page section about each of the then-current French member of the F1 grid, in an order that's kind of haphazard because it's neither alphabetical or by age. Each one has their quick bio with their carrier before F1, their birth date (I checked, nobody lied), and at the very end, what the magazine staff think of their national heroes in a couple traits: their past, their present, their prospects for the future (still according to them), their good traits and their bad traits.
The bad traits are my favourite part of it (aside from the kickass picture of everyone holding their helmets). For the most part, they're relating to their abilities as drivers or their personalities. For example, Patrick's defaults are listed as "shy, cunning", Jacques' "bad technician"(lmao), etc. On the funnier end of the scale to my fucked-up sense of humour, JP Jarier got blessed with "unstable", René with the very-hard-to-translate "casanier" (it's, like, homely, but with a severe negative connotation), and DIdier's is... "perfectible physical stamina". He's the only one with a physical trait as a flaw and I'm suspecting it's at least in part related to him collapsing after his 24 Hours victory in the same damn month this magazine was written in. I'd guess the exact shenanigans of the Renault-Alpine A442 B weren't that widespread back then, just that happening. I'll have to yap about that another day.
I'm def giving you a translation of that one some day, it's not that long and I promise you, it's cool!
(sheesh, that double-page picture is due for a rescan. I didn't realize the left one was that sideways)

One of my nichest pleasures as the world's most amateur archivist are compilations of driver headshots, such as this one, taken from Sport-Auto issue 216 of January 1980. As the French title indicates, these are the driver line-ups then confirmed for all confirmed teams - which is why Shadow is entirely missing, while Osella's second slot remains empty because that seat was meant to be split between two drivers (one for the European races and the other for the rest, I guess).
I really like this one because some of these pictures really aren't the most flattering, so choose your fighter. I actually genuinely like some of them, like the Renault drivers', they're pretty cute pictures I'd say.
For the most part, and for once, I post scans that don't need that much context. It feels weird lol
