I went through a small phase of painting beautiful flesh eating water sirens. It was primarily to do studies on water, but also because deep down, we all know one of the best ways to go is being lured to the depths by a pretty lady with gills.

Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, crossroads, the night, and more. Hecate is often depicted as three aspects, and this drawing is an interpretation of a popular depiction of her in this pose. Honestly i'd already kind of like to redraw this. Or maybe just fix it up since there are a few little problems I see in it now!

Mara, the Slavic goddess of winter and death (also known as Morana, Marazanna, and a few other names!). I drew this since I needed a new sticker to send out with Etsy prints, and it almost felt criminal that I hadn't drawn her yet!

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune in modern goth clothing! I really wanna try to make this into a series because it was so fun thinking of what outfits they’d wear and drawing them up ♥

Persephone. She is one of my favourite stories from mythology, though my preferred telling of the myth is the version where a regular pomegranate seed is all it takes to convince her to return to the underworld every year. There’s something so indulgent about a food tasting so good, that someone returns to literal hell every year to eat it.

Grant me the power to revolutionize the world! *** Work in progress based on my favorite shoujo manga after Sailor Moon. Utena was a huge influence on my style- the drama of it all! As an adult, the story resonates even more as it’s ultimately about what it means to fight to be yourself and maintain your personal identity as the world and other people attempt to take it from you. #manga #anime #fanart #utena #shoujokakumeiutena #revolutionarygirlutena https://www.instagram.com/jshorr/p/Bvhj1BNnm2e/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=130o9pmz2otwo

Inspired by so many film noir movies, one of my favourite genres. I borrowed Laura on a whim from my university library (I liked the cover) and have been in love with the tropes and visuals and moods of it ever since.

The Weird Sisters are my favourite part of Macbeth (which is saying something because there is so much to love about it). I always loved their chracter design in Gargoyles- super simple with just their hair colour used to tell them apart- so i kinda wanted to riff on that but using angles and shape. This started out as an exercise to practice drawing faces from lower angles and turned into this!

I’ve been reading a lot of Saga and Jun'ichirō Tanizaki short stories lately, which somehow made this happen. They’re demon besties <3

I haven’t logged in to Tumblr in awhile and, oh right, those new community guidelines. So now 1/3rd of my inoffensive art is gone because it shows a female nipple. So lame.

One of my favourite things to draw are gigantic, semi-demonic, mostly nude women, floating around in space. I’ve liked the idea of it- i’m not sure why- for so many years, but when i tried bringing it to life in acrylic it just didn’t work because I didn’t have the skill to make it look how i wanted. Whenever I tried, I got frustrated and abandoned it (which is saying something because i’m stubborn as hell most of the time!) It’s so good years later to revisit it in another medium and have it work out!
