An Ode to Aziraphale

Aziraphale, Yes, I adore you because you are an angel. A literal angel from Heaven and yet you are not perfect.

I love that you try and do the right thing even when you know your superiors will not like it, even when your plans go awry.

I adore your sassy ass.

I think you are odd and brave and entirely too wrapped in your own head sometimes.

I love the joy you find in Earthly, human things you don't need.

You are adorable when you get annoyed.

It's very, ahh, affecting.

Your silliness makes me giggle and persuades me to be more open and free and unashamed in my own rl.

Your huge heart and openness to learn and to consider others' experience and point of view are themselves a miracle.

Angel or not, you care for the humans you don't entirely understand.

I adore that you fell in love with a demon not because he's handsome, but because he's kind and considerate, and because he cares.

I adore how much you rankle each other and yet you are each others' worlds.

I love that you pay attention. To things that may seem as ephemeral as an actor's enjoyment in playing a role, or the playwright's success with it.

I adore you for trying to cheer up a friend who you knew was very likely doing things you should be wanting to punish him for.

I love that after 6000 years with humans, watching them murder each other in increasingly innovative ways you still melt at signs of love between them.

I adore that you are happy to do things imperfectly even though you could miracle everything to be impeccable every time.

This goes for your worn, loved clothes as well.

I adore that you implicitly trust a demon.

And that you taught him to trust more as well.

I adore that you pay attention to what others do and not what they say.

I adore you for not giving up.

I adore you for making the hardest decision to have a shot at the best possible future.

You deserve to be happy angel. And adored.

The worst piece of fanon crowley lore is that he can’t see stars because snakes can’t see stars. Not worst as in terrible but as in i violently reject this for him. He can see the stars and they’re a constant reminder that he’s a creator not a destroyer

No, I would love you to help me.

He could’ve said:

• I would love it if you’d help me.

• I would love for you to help me.

• I would love some help from you.

There are an infinite number of ways he could’ve worded this and he chose to say:

I would love you to help me.

Imagine loving someone for decades/centuries/millennia and the only way you can tell them you love them is in coded messages.

of course crowley already knew before his conversation with nina that he was in love with aziraphale. his reaction wasn't him having this sudden realisation, he was reacting to nina's perspective on their relationship. and I don't mean reacting to a human perceiving them as a couple. he's used to that, he's been getting that for thousands of years, and in his own love confession he admitted that they've basically been a couple for a long, long time. if not officially or physically then at least devoted to each other in the same way a couple are. it's just been unspoken. crowley's reaction was to nina saying “other people’s love lives always seem so much more straightforward than our own.” he's used to thinking about his relationship with aziraphale in terms of heaven and hell and eternity and secrecy and boundaries and distance for the sake of keeping each other safe. he's not used to having his relationship problems with aziraphale put in such simple, human terms. she aligned his relationship problems with her normal human relationship problems. she made his enormous, terrifying problems sound fixable.

“You’re reading an awful lot,” Muriel observes, sitting on the stairs and watching Crowley sprawled out in an armchair with a paperback in one hand, held in a way that would infuriate Aziraphale. It’s a small joy, breaking in a spine, dog-earing a page, thinking about leaving notes in margins but wondering if it’s too far. He can’t wreak that much havoc with the possibility of having the glorious Archangel Aziraphale within close smiting range. 

“I’m trying to figure something out,” Crowley murmurs.

“What’s that?”

“. . .stories,” he says, vaguely, after a long moment of staring at the ceiling trying to reign his thoughts in. “Beginnings, middles, endings. You know.”

“I do know!” Muriel says, happily. “Do you know how many books I’ve read?” 

“Five hundred and thirty two,” Crowley says, dutifully. “It’s impressive. Gold star.” 

“Thank you,” they say, getting up to go over and perch on the arm of his chair, reading over his shoulder. “What do you want to find out?”

“How somebody who reads so many goddamn books,” Crowley says, clenching his fingers a little too intensely considering the book is still in them, “could pick such an objectively bad ending.” 

Muriel looks at him with wide eyes for a second before they say, sighing, “Oh, this is about Aziraphale again.” 

“. . .no,” Crowley says, scowling at them. 

They pat him gently on the back before getting up and walking over to a shelf to immediately grab a book. Muriel has been reorganizing the whole shelf based on their own system which is, frankly, ineffable. Aziraphale will love it. 

“Read this one,” they say. “Trust me. Actually, wait--"

They return the book carefully to its place and come back with a paperback instead.

"That was a first edition," they says. "Based on how you're treating that book, I think maybe we should stick with replaceable things."

He's accidentally set a few books on fire but has immediately either fixed them or taken the ashes an hour out of town to dispose of them, just in case. Can't be too sure.

"Oh, god, Jane Austen," he groans, sliding so low in his chair that he's almost on the floor.

"Pride and Prejudice," Muriel says, brightly. "I know I'm not the most astute with emotions and the more human stuff that the two of you were up to but I think it's actually rather silly you didn't start with this one. It was the blueprint, wasn't it?"

"For what?"

"For you," they say. "The story it should have been. With the ball? And the dancing? And your grumpiness comes into play. It all adds up, really."

Crowley flips open the book then freezes.

"Holy shit," he says, softly.

"What?" Muriel asks.

"He wrote in it," Crowley says.

Inktober Day 10 - Fortune I like to think Aziraphale goes to visit Madame Tracy every once in a while for tea as a thank you for the lift during the apocalypse. Crowley begrudgingly tags along (because of course he does)

Why do you hate the coffee theory?

because it robs azi of all agency and i - quite frankly - cannot stand that. i definitely think the metatron knew how to play this, so sure there was some manipulation involved, but ultimately it was azi's decision. LET IT BE HIS DECISION. without it there's no chance for character development and growth.

also i just really don't understand why people are apparently so baffled by it that they have to (no offense) pull shit out of their ass because...it's not even out of character? it's not shocking or a case of 'he would NEVER do this.' it makes perfect sense based on everything we know about him and his (toxic) relationship with heaven and how much he has constantly struggled with it.

it's like they have to somehow justify him making a decision they don't like because it makes him the 'bad guy' in their eyes, but like, there are no bad guys here between him and crowley. and neither of them is perfect. both of these things can be true.
