We love Bates College 'You Can Play' video. Here is what Bates Director of Athletics, Kevin McHugh, has to say about the YCP initiative:
"It has been very gratifying to see the campus support for initiatives around LGBT issues that have been led by our student-athletes and coaches. In particular, having our Student Athlete Advisory Council and Athletic Department staff spearhead Allies pledging-signing efforts that have culminated in nearly 2000 signatures as well as the production of the You Can Play video, demonstrates the potential that Athletics has to galvanize various campus constituencies. The leadership they provided around publicly expressing one's intent to respect and welcome all persons, regardless of sexual orientation, has had a significantly positive impact at our institution."

"Solidarity in Sport gives all of us the opportunity to be accepting, respectful and admiring of so very many athletes around the world-athletes have the right to bring all of themselves to the sport they love and we have the right to celebrate that individual athlete and person. This is what makes the world a better place."
Helen Carroll | Sports Project Director National Center for Lesbian Rights

Sport has the power to teach us the skills we need to successful on and off the field. Through sports, we become better learners, better teammates and better leaders. Why wouldn't we want all people to have the opportunity to participate?
