How art universities kill the desire to draw

i've graduated urban design this summer. For four years my life consisted of mostly classical russian art school: academic drawing and painting, sculpture, propaedeutics - in one word, everything bauhaus and vkutemas left for us. But there is one big flaw in russian education system - it's outdated. A design student forced to spent countless hours on art isn't something new. The problem arises when "tradition" is valued more than actual practical skill or professional knowledge, and with such a focus on old rules there is little chance to gain anything valuable or relevant upon graduation. As a result of drawing "just because the program requires it", of repeating the same process over and over again without propper guidence or goal, I am now dealing with such a big burnout that drawing still doesn't bring me as much joy as it did four years ago. And the biggest problem is that the size of your canvas or how well you draw hands is useless after getting a diploma. Art education is without question is a must for anyone in the design indusrty. First two years were extremely valuable in terms of knowledge and experience, and to this day I use this knowledge of composition, color, anatomy etc. in my waking day-to-day life. But with this much effort spent on purely academic skills, I've overworked myself to the bone to pass everything else. Was it really worth it?
