How a DC Generator is Constructed
A DC Generator is also known as a DC machine, and its construction involves a four-pole direct current generator. So a DC Generator is generally constructed of seven parts. The seven essential elements of a direct current generator include pole, pole shoes, an armature core, yoke, field winding, brushed, armature winding and commutator. The two most crucial parts of a DC Generator are rotor and stator. Let's look into the elements one by one. The stator is an integral part of the device, and it functions by supplying the magnetic fields in the coil spin region. It also involves two stable magnets.

The two magnets are fixed in a way so that it corresponds to the rotor region. Armateur core or rotor is considered to be the second most crucial part of a direct current generator. This armature core of the DC Generator involves an iron lamination slotted and arranged in stacks to form a cylindrical armature core. Typically these iron laminations are included or added to minimize the loss caused by the Foucault current. Armature winding, which is another essential part of a DC Generator, is supported by the armature slots.
These slots are generally placed in a close circuit bending form. It is then fixed in series to parallel to increase the amount of current produced. Yoke plays a vital part in the outer structure of 24 V DC Generator. The yoke is usually made of steel or cast iron. It supply's the required mechanical energy needed for transferring the magnetic flux over the poles. On the other hand, Poles in a DC generator supports the field windings. The field windings are generally attached to the poles and are connected in parallel or series.

And the Pole shoe in the generator is used for laying out the magnetic flux and also to prevent the falling of field coil. Commutator in direct current generator functions as a detector for modifying AC voltage to DC voltage. The current then flows through the armature winding and over the brushes. The commutator is made of copper segment protected by mica sheets. The role of the brushes in the generator is to ensure the electrical flow between the external load circuit and the commutator.
