she's not surprised– where there's people stuck together in a space for a time, there's always some form of fighting. whether official or not, caused by alcohol or not, it didn't matter. shepard taps her foot along to the beat, gaze flickering over to the stranger. that expression reminds her of whenever garrus used to hint that he was a better shot than her. (as if! she's the commander shepard.)
" Yeah, pretty great People blowing off the steam of the day by getting their lights knocked out." not that different from what she saw during her days in the academy.
"So..... you enjoy fighting then, huh? You any good or is it gonna be all talk?" appearances can be deceiving and while this one looked unassuming, she knows what that glint in the eyes mean. "
"It's great, right?" He tilts his head, nodding along to the beat playing while the ring is set up. He's on shift, but he can't help but want to look on at the fighters gearing up. See who's around, who might plan to stay toward the end when he can finish his shift and hop into the ring himself.
"The boss is a pretty cool guy, too," he grins at the fellow red-head, a fox-like shift in his demeanor.
"He even lets me fight in the ring after my shift. Perks of the job - I'd do it for free, honestly, just for that."

slowly working on old event/normal thread replies but i love crew call and i couldn't resist throwing shepard into the mix!
i have mainly two sort of ideas
paranormal: think of shows like supernatural (the main idea), the vampire diaries, grimm, etc etc. i'll probably use this one the most!
action-adventure: like the games tomb raider, uncharted, assassins creed, etc etc. something that shepard would also excel at given her natural skillsets
this also operates as a starter call, which I'll cap at.....4 for the time being! i most likely will dm you to get a rough plot outline going as well

it was embarrassing to be caught thinking out loud.
shepard wasn't ashamed of what she felt, nor the type to act as if such emotions were a weakness, nothing more than a hindrance. she wouldn't have been a very good commander if she did. " Hm. Perhaps. Or they'd say why couldn't I take them to a planet that was warm instead of one where they're freezing their ass off." the thought earns a soft chuckle as she lets out a breath softly.
the stranger wasn't wrong. she knew her crew like the back of her hand, each an important person in her life and never forgotten. nobody better to go to hell and back with, a feeling mutually shared, but some days she wonders if her name ended up on the memorial in the Normandy or if they would hold onto hope.
" Space is colder, though. Never really realized it until I've had my feet on the ground for longer than a month."
Mira had gotten used to wondering around at night, it wasn't as crowded, nor as loud most of the place she went and it made it easier to get from one place to another. So, of course when she's catching sight of a woman standing off on her own, staring up at the stars above, she's making her way over to her.
She isn't sure if it's how she's standing, or maybe whispering to herself, but something made Mira felt like she least needed someone besides her right now. Plus, if she was wrong, the woman no doubt would tell her to leave wouldn't see?

"I'm not sure who would be mad at you.. But, I'm fairly certain whoever it it would rather you be warm inside somewhere then outside in the cold."
Mira offers softly as she stands besides her, looking up at the same stars she is.

you have got to be kidding her. every single cell in her body is telling her that he doesn't know how to use a gun at all but beggars can't be choosers and as capable as Shepard is, she can't spend the entire time keeping both her and the stranger's ass safe from death. (once more, she wishes her crew were here. things aren't quite the same without Joker's sarcastic remarks over the comm system while another quips about how she has once more led them right into danger.)
" For your sake, I hope so."
the commander quickly turns on her heel, pushing off the ground in the opposite direction of this road that was slowly drawing the attention of more glitched. she reaches out again to firmly grasp the poet's arm, pulling him along a few seconds until she was sure he wouldn't go tumbling to the ground again. " Here." she draws out the M-11 from her hip holster, carefully but quickly putting it in the other's hands.
" Aim for the legs– you won't be able to make a well-timed shot while running. Just need to slow them down long enough to get away– keep them off our backs and don't make me regret this!" with that, she crouches low before sprinting ahead with a newfound burst of speed. she needed to clear the path ahead and her fists should be enough.
not more than a squeal is given as an initial response, limited by the adrenaline of just barely surviving. his stomach drops as the place he'd previously thought to be safe is dove right into by a beast - and it shows clearly in the widening of his eyes. panic has replaced all critical thinking and has thrust him into irrationality, rendering him frozen to the floor. hell, his freeze response in the face of danger is the reason he's here to begin with when this was supposed to be a hasty, calm, safe supply hunt.
shoved back, will has a few seconds to think of a reply: possibly an apology in the rush of everything rather than a witty line that, although impractical, would probably save him some of the embarrassment of almost stepping into a deathtrap. " i'm not trying to - "
the word die bleeds into a yelp as he's pushed to the ground forcefully. a grimace forms on his face, deep lines at either side of his mouth, though the following complain dies on his tongue. time seems to slow down around the carnage scene ; he's starstruck to find his savior almost effortlessly killing the glitched that'd gotten hold of him, even more so at this angle, with the light reflecting off her armor and ..
oh, right! there's no time to stand here and wax poetic about a heroic figure, he remembers, we're about to die!
the poet's hand digs into the dirt and pushes him forward, almost falling straight back down as he attempts to sprint. " i wasn't planning on stopping to smell the flowers, don't worry! "
barely able to hear her voice over the shots, he shouts back, desperately, " a gun? yes, i know how to use one! you can trust me! "
he smiles. he's lying.

" Are you trying to get yourself killed?!" words are hissed between clenched teeth as the commander firmly grabs the elbow of the other in front of her, roughly tugging him back behind her as a glitched dove directly to where he was just standing, razor sharp claws grazing the already scratched chestplate of her armor. Shepard quickly releases her grip, practically throwing the man to the ground as she brings her leg up, delivering a kick to the gut of the creature with all her strength. its shrieks die mid-breath as its sent flying back, body harshly connecting with the pavement of the street.
she doesn't wait to see if it moves or if its alive or unconcious. the commander turns on her heel, moving fast as she once more tugs the other up to his feet. while it seems as if there isn't a need to rush, she recalls the Normandy's AI warning her of a new modifier. and unfortunately, someone else was dragged into this mess.
" Don't stop, keep moving!" a hand placed against his back to nudge him into a run as Shepard follows behind. looking over her shoulder, she fires off a few shots of her pistol– non-lethal hits. a kneecap, a leg, a foot, anything to stop the slowly growing group of glitched chasing after them. " Tell me, do you know how to use a gun?!"

Shepard has achieved the impossible enough to last a lifetime. surviving alone on Akuze, doing what others couldn't, daring to cross that line, even coming back from the dead (because they needed her, nobody else but her). the commander was a woman with an almost incomprehensible willpower and as handy as it was in most situations, it didn't come without its drawbacks. fighting for days on end was nothing new to her, but even with her cybernetics, she was still human. and humans needed to take a break to rest, to recover. every time she winced from just taking a step, she could practically hear Dr. Chakwas scolding her.
but the doctor wasn't here. nor anyone from her crew for that matter. so she had to look out for herself, by herself. never staying in one place too long, making temporary shelters here and there was her main strategy. drawing on her experience on Akuze wasn't something she expected to ever do again but fate has a weird way of making things happen.
on this night, it's a rooftop she's chosen to take refuge on. high enough to avoid the most aggressive of the glitched while still allowing her access to an escape route. one someone managed to find in their search for supplies. she gestures to the backpack resting against the roof wall. " Go ahead– I don't need much." she's survived on far, far less, afterall.

sometimes, shock can be a blessing. it keeps the pain at bay, keeps you from understanding just how bad everything really is. it keeps you calm as fire rages around you. that's the one thing that passes through shepard's mind as glass bursts around her and linoleoum flooring gives way to air. now, it wasn't the commander's plan to throw herself out of the window of an apartment complex, but since when has any of her plans ever gone right?
for a few short seconds, she's airborne but gravity quickly takes hold. thankfully her shields absorb the brunt of the impact, body rolling into the landing. she'll have even more bruised limbs in the coming days but that didn't matter. glass falls down around her and the clearing of a throat behind her triggers a response as shepard moves to leave.
up, heel turn, pistol drawn and pointed, fingering hovering just against the trigger and– " You know, that's a good way to get yourself killed." speaks the commander when she sees it's not one of the glitched. an unfamiliar face still warrants caution but there's more important matters at hand than questioning the stranger. such as the sudden screech coming from above.
" Shit– move!" she can only hope the other listens to her warning as she dives to the side behind a cement planter, body taut with tension as the tell-tale sign of something large and heavy gets thrown directly at where they were just standing. she can't even hear her phone go off, signifying a modifier being put into play.

" You should take the moment. No offense, but you look like you're going to collapse."
it's one of those rare moments where she wasn't caught in the fire. there have been a few sort of safe zones set-up, though that's pretty far off from the truth. in essence, they're like the docking bay back in the Citadel during the Reaper attacks. what few handful of survivors there, sprinkled about inside of a fortified zone, just trying to survive. Shepard could see at least three entry points the glitched could take advantage of but....luckily they weren't too smart.
she sets down the Widow next to the cleaning kit on the trunk she chose to sit on, tossing a bottle of water towards the other redhead. " Trust me. We're safe for the time being. Won't make no sense nor do you any good to run yourself ragged right now."

it had started out simple enough. though she wasn't banking on getting caught up dealing with a small hoarde of the glitched, she had help– if one could call it that. the commander knew dorothy as something of an old friend of snow's, and while the pink-haired nikke could be a pain in the ass, she was clearly a capable fighter and shepard wasn't one to turn down any sort of assistance. the sort of silent cooperation was working, too– reluctant as she was to pull the trigger, casualities were inevitable and the hoard was thinning.
and then every single glitch surrounding them vanished.
it wasn't silent. no, their screeching was still echoing around the two, but they couldn't be seen. she'd have thought it to be a new ability were it not for the short beep from her phone, followed by the Normandy's AI speaking into her comms.
commander, a modifier has been applied via your cellular device. please adjust your combat plan accordingly– hostile lifesigns are still converging on your area.
" Heads up!" she shouts towards the Nikke a few feet behind her on the battlefield as she arms herself with her pistol. " They've got–" but words are cut off as a glitch quickly flashes into view far too close to Shepard, causing her to curse as she jerks her body to the side. claws scrape against her armor, unable to pierce, and as she aims her gun on the spot where the glitched should be...........there was nothing. " Son of a bitch."

there's a harsh exhale of air from the commander, the burst ruffling loose strands of hair that dare to try and mask her vision. sure, pushing the hair aside would be easier but she didn't want to get....whatever was stuck to her gloves in her hair. ( silly? maybe but it helped to keep things grounded.) " Well...."
the butt of her rifle comes to rest against the ground as she takes a moment to breathe– no glitched in the vacinity allowed her the freedom. " At least it's not a birthday dealing with the Collectors this time."

– and what comes flying past the corner to greet the newcomer's sight is the flying form of one of the surrounding glitched careening into the half-wrecked side of a car. the metal creaks under the weight, but the sound is quickly drowned out by inhuman screeching of its 'friends', if one could call it that.
commander, armed friendly on your right.
the Normandy's VI inside her helmet draws her attention, her gaze skirting from the shambling creatures to the stranger. down they drift to the weapon – ready, safety off– and her plan adjusts.
she draws her heavy pistol, heels turning in the dirt, and though it appears as if she's aiming for the other, her arm raises. two shots let loose– the supressor silencing any sound– severing the chains holding up a large flourescent street sign. it comes crashing down, kicking up a large cloud of dust mere inches from the stranger. however, it also walled off two of the glitched from advancing, while offering cover.
" Keep it non-lethal!" barks the commander, and she can only hope they'll agree to that request. she won't shoo away any help, not when she's on her own, but too much is she reminded of the thorian from feros and shepard would rather avoid anyone else remember what happened when they weren't in control.

Ever since the city had fallen into chaos and he'd lost contact with Eiden, Veoc had chosen the slow way to track him down—mostly because anything too flashy seemed to exhibit a non-reversible drain on his abilities. Focusing on the info in the holographic screen Syren sent him, it seemed the group of suspicious figures were located right around the corner of the next building.
"...keep me updated on their movements."
"I'll see if I can pick them off from behind."
He reaches into his holster for his gun, priming it to shoot as Syren feeds real-time updates into his eye and ears. As they approach, Veoc steps off the hoverboard, readies himself to shoot, and rounds the corner—

god okay got busy for a hot minute but i've decided to put up an event starter call for shepard! but first some info
in regards to powers, she's human but with a catch aka her body is 30% made up of cybernetics due to cerberus essentially rebuilding her (long story). this however doesn't give her any unique or special powers above what she usually can do.
she's an alliance marine but also a spectre, which is a group of elite agents entrusted with extraordinary authority by the citadel council, including the power of life and death over the inhabitants of the galaxy with a primary responsibility is to preserve galactic stability by whatever means necessary. though considered to be above the law and have complete discretion to how they accomplish a mission, shepard does have her morals and ethics she follows and sticks to them no matter the mission.
her class is an INFILTRATOR. a tech and combat specialist, shepard excels in assasinations and taking out targets at long distances, as well as having the ability to cloak herself from visual and technological detection. however, due to the behaviour of the glitched, she'll use these cloaking mechanisms rarely. for a list of her weapons & abilities related to them, please look here
due to being uncapped, there is shepard's ship, the SSV NORMANDY SR-2. a large battle ready vessel, she absolutely wouldn't be using it for combat at all. however, it does have on-board systems that would help with the VI (which shepard's suit has access to from the ground) as well as having crew cabins, plus a hangar bay with smaller vehicles, namely the UT-47 Kodiak Drop Shuttle and the M35 Mako Rover. chances of either being used are extremely low, but the VI is more likely in regards to reading life signs and signatures when say hiding
the most important thing to note is that shepard will prioritize NEUTRALIZING over ELEMINATING. she will not kill any of the glitched unless there is absolutely no other choice. she also will make it known that she won't tolerate the latter either should one who is working with her prefer it. her priority, as both an alliance commander and a spectre, no matter the planet, is to ensure the safety of others and putting a stop to the threat however she can
that's kinda long but necessary!! so if you'd like to help (or hinder i know there's those out there loving chaos) shepard or need someone to protect them, then like this and i'll approach you to plot! i'll cap this at 5 for now

"What is that?" Two of the Stars sat huddled over two of the many computer monitors set up within their abode. It had been a few days since it had appeared, prompting the city's defense systems to seal away half of the branches. One screen showed an impossibly long chain of code, while the other flickered through various images from within the quarantined areas.
The Mistwood's trees had been dyed crimson, affecting the lighting. When the screen showed the Sky-Strewn Islands, you could see what looked like bodies walking over the edge of the floating isles. "A gift. Likely from the ones who infiltrated through a backdoor at the beginning of the year."
"Bloody hell. Are those bodies? Is it affecting all of the life in the simulation? Even the plant life? What sort of virus is this?" A glance at the coding was all they needed to identify the cause. "Its glitching the data? Altering its behaviour... Like zombies? How long will the system be able to suppress it? Long enough for us to counteract it, I'd hope?"
"Not zombies, fortunately. Their behaviour is similar, but... Perhaps disconnect Ofiuco from the network for the time being? They've been banging on the barrier for 26 hours. I don't think it'll hold for long with that much data crashing into it. Actually, never mind. It already collapsed. Maybe activate the emergency protocols."
Cracks could be seen forming in the barrier on the second monitor. It didn't take long for it to shatter, unleashing hundreds upon thousands of bodies that crashed into the city. Anything that was living that they crashed into became infected with a virus and moved to attack anything that hadn't been infected.
But while the Isolans from other worlds would be attacked, they couldn't be infected. So killing them would have to do instead.
"Erm. Slight issue?"
"What?"
"It has infected the emergency systems. We only have one charge."
"[CENSORED]. That's not good."
WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING!?
Zombies! ...Kind of! A virus has spread among the NPC people, animals, and even the plant life. While the characters won't know what the Stars are officially referring to them as, they have been simply codenamed "The Glitched". Anything "living" they come into contact with will become Glitched itself, with the exclusion of the player characters.
That said, The Glitched will see the player characters as prey nonetheless and will try to kill them instead. There is also a glitching effect visible over them to indicate their status. Lets go over the types of Glitched in more detail:
GLITCHED NPCS Your standard "zombies". They were the NPCs that lived among the player characters this whole time. They resemble traditional zombies in many ways. They shamble, they moan and groan, and their movements can be unsettling. But they aren't decaying at least! They will attack in ways similar to zombies, running at you in hoards, thrashing, and biting if needed. Whatever it takes to kill their targets. That said, they're generally slow.
GLITCHED CREATURES Animals and monsters are also affected (not including character pets). They've become much more ravenous, including those that would normally avoid people altogether. If you've ever been terrified of the prospect of zombie squirrels crawling in through your vents to get you, well... Depending on the animal or monster, they might be faster and / or more dangerous than a regular Glitched.
GLITCHED PLANTLIFE While not as outwards dangerous, infected plant life affects the environment. Any infected plants will glow crimson red and, once enough plant life in a contained area even the sky will begin to glow an ominous red. A phenomenon that will spread north as the virus spreads.
EVENT MECHANICS
ABILITY DRAIN
At the beginning of the event, every characters will be uncapped entirely since the Stars activated the emergency systems. However, these systems have lost power since. As a result, every usage of a character's powers will cause all of their abilities to weaken regardless of the one used, little by little, until their powers disappear entirely. This means that the characters will need to be smart about using them once they realize. This also applies to weapons, and their durability will degrade after each fight until they're liable to break. While we won't be policing this, we ask that you don't ignore this mechanic completely.
NO RESPAWNING
The respawn system is part of the emergency systems, so for the duration of this event your character will not be able to respawn. If they die, they will remain dead until the conclusion of the event! If you go this route, they will exist as something kin to a ghost that cannot interact with the living world, but will be able to interact with other ghosts. If your character is still alive and has the power to see and hear ghosts, though? You'll still be able to interact with them!
MODIFIERS
The ones who installed the virus in the first place also installed a modifier system. Every encounter with ten or more Glitched will trigger a modifier wheel to spin on the phones of every player character nearby and will all land on a single modified that may affect the Glitched or the characters themselves depending. A new modifier will be rolled every hour, replacing the current one. You can find a list of what the effects do here, as well as the wheel to spin before each thread here! You're not required to use the wheel, but we do recommend it especially if you're doing multiple threads! Characters will be able to check their phones at any time to see which modifier is active.
GLITCHED TERRITORY
At the beginning of the event, the southern branches already be completely dyed crimson and is rampant with the Glitched. They've broken through the barrier and are now entering the city en masse. Throughout the event, they will move farther and farther north, leaving your characters with a choice. Will they hunker down in the city to try and ride out this storm, or will they flee to the branches across the water? Unfortunately, eventually nowhere will be safe.
FAQ
When does the event officially end? The official end time is 11:59:59PM EST on Friday, April 18th! You won't be able to make any new minis, opens, or starters after that point!
What are the requirements for participation? All you need is one IC post within the event scenario!
What if we're not very good with horror elements? While the Glitched take a lot of cues from the zombie genre and you could portray them to be as physically bloodied and ravaged as you'd like, because they aren't technically undead, you could portray them without less or no emphasis on what might make them visually disturbing if you need to!
Can we kill the Glitched? What will happen to the NPCs that are killed this way? You can! They'll respawn as if nothing happened at the end of the event, but the characters themselves won't know this. This will surely bring about a moral dilemma for some, especially those that know specific NPCs personally.
If my character is killed, can I write a thread with them set before that death? Of course! As long as it's set chronologically before they died, it's fine!
Will my character have any way to defend themselves if they have no powers? Yes! Characters that are powerless can access an app in their phone that will allow them to assume their avatar from the Fantasia Interspace simulation! Even if you weren't in the group during this event, you can create this avatar by picked a player race and spells!
I have another question! Feel free to ask through the masterlist! We'll answer it as soon as we're able to! We ask that you do not ask event questions in the server for this event, just so everyone is able to see the answers if they have the same questions!
