old niche fandoms are quite strange on their own, with mountains of fanworks accumulated over the years. joining and being in an old niche fandom for several years yourself is its own kind of strange.

you watched people you knew or at least recognized come and go, saw fan artists you looked up to go into arts and animation, find their careers as illustrators or other professions in the field.

some disappeared and you just catch yourself checking their socials that have not been updated in years, wondering how they are doing now. Some deleted their works completely and the ideas that inspired you are gone without a single trace. A person that would regularly leave comments under your fics died.

and you are still there.
