Yummy, trauma salad!!

When I was little, I lived in a big house on a steep hill that went even higher and ended in a sort of “forest.” At the time, my sister always walked our dogs up there because they loved it. Until one cloudy day, I decided to say, “Sister, can I go with you?” — “Ask Dad!” And guess what? He said yes, but I had to be careful.

I’m sorry, Dad, but I wasn’t careful.

As we were walking, I got obsessed with an armadillo I found along the path. When I looked at my sister, she was completely pale, with a terrified look in her eyes, saying:

“Sol, just don’t look back. And stay still.”

I couldn’t help it — I turned around. There was a snake about half a meter long right behind me. A green snake. Known as the jararaca, common in Brazil (I was at Brazil)

I panicked, and I knew in my head that if I got bitten, I could die. But my only instinct was to run as fast as I could.

Guess what? The snake bit me.

I felt no pain, no discomfort — nothing. Just a few moments later, I noticed a small spot above my foot was bleeding. What a “relief”… The snake had only bitten me with one tooth. And in that moment, I knew I was going to survive.

My sister and I screamed for help in desperation, until a neighbor managed to rescue us. Hours later, I was limping, almost unable to walk. My family rushed me to the children’s hospital, where I was treated for four straight days.

Conclusion: Never go to a “forest” wearing flip-flops and shorts.

Consequences: Four months learning to walk again.
