The Coffee Pot vs The Keurig Single Cup

Credit: Diana Poisson There is a Keurig single cup brewing system in the customer waiting area at my work. Because my office is also in https://screencast.com/t/quQtoC8t the waiting room, I have turned into an unofficial Keurig Representative as I am asked at least ten times a day my opinion of the Keurig and how it compares to a traditional drip coffee maker. Impressiveness Factor Before we got the Keurig, we served complimentary Folgers coffee in a thermal carafe.
For the most part, customers would grab the carafe, pour the coffee into their cup and not make any comments about the carafe or the coffee flavor. Then about two years ago, our corporate office decided that replacing the carafe with a Keurig would improve the customer experience. I'm not sure if it has improved their experience, but it sure has impressed them. Even though the Keurig's first office brewer was first launched in 1998 and their first home brewer was introduced in 2004[1],there still are a lot of people today that have never used a Keurig before. For many of my customers, their first time experience with a Keurig is in my waiting room. Typical comments when seeing the Keurig for the first time are: Wow, you have one of those? I didn't expect to see a Keurig in a repair shop! Look at all of the flavors! I need to try one! If impressing your guests is important to you, then get a Keurig. Winner:Keurig Machine Costs At work, customers often ask me how much the machine costs. To put it simply, Keurig Brewing Systemscost more than the standard coffee maker. Current pricing from Keurig's website are: MINI Plus: $99.99 K45 Elite: $119.99 Special Edition: $149.95 Platinum: $179.99 Platinum Plus: $189.99 Office Pro Premier: $249.95 However, you may find a lower price from other retailers or by using coupons. I purchased our Platinum model for work from Bed Bath & Beyond for $144.00 using their 20% off coupon. At home, I have a Black & Decker 12-cup coffee maker. Black & Decker's website shows eleven 12-cup models and their prices range from $19.99 to $39.99. I have seen very basic models selling for $9.99 at some retail locations. Winner:Coffee Pot Coffee Costs After machine costs are discussed, the next topic is usually the cost of the K-Cups. Prices will vary between brand and retailer, but they typically cost between 50 and 80 cents each. This is high compared to making a pot of coffee. To compare costs, I went to a local grocery store and priced out coffee and coffee filters: $7.99 for a box of 12 Folgers K-Cups ($0.66 per cup) $7.99 for a 28.8 ounce tub of Folgers coffee ($0.04 per 8 ounce cup) $3.37 for 200 coffee filters (less than $0.02 per filter) Assuming that tap water is used and using the above prices, making a 12-cup pot of coffee will cost about 50 cents, which is less than a 66 cent cup of Keurig coffee. My customers often make the comment that it is better to make one cup of Keurig coffee rather than making a full pot of coffee and throwing most of it away. My calculations do show that making a full pot is less expensive than making one Keurig single cup. I agree that it is wasteful to throw any coffee away, but hopefully most drip machine users won't be making a full pot if they are only planning on drinking just one cup. This article gives suggestions on how to save money on your K-Cups. Winner: Coffee Pot A reusable coffee filter is available for some Keurig models so that you can use your own ground coffee. This will make the price per cup almost equal between the two coffee making systems, but still, you have to pay a much higher price for the initial cost of the Keurig.

Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter (Single) Amazon Price: $19.95 $11.99 Buy Now (price as of Jun 5, 2015) Save money on coffee costs with a reusable coffee filter! Ease of Use No matter which type of machine you use, once you know how to operate it, it is pretty easy. The steps are basically the same - add water, add coffee and make sure either an empty pot or cup is ready to catch the freshly made coffee and then press the start or brew button. However, if you do own a Keurig, please be sure to instruct your guests on the proper operation if they want a cup of coffee. Many of our customers using the Keurig for the first time don't know what to do. Here are actions that I have witnessed: opening the K-Cup and pouring the grounds into the machine. making sure the K-Cup label faces a certain direction (not necessary) not putting a new K-Cup in the machine randomly pressing buttons on the Keurig Machine trying to make it start Granted, there is also a learning curve when making a pot of coffee for the first time. Therefore, I am going to issue a tie on this one. Winner: Tie Coffee Flavors With over 200 coffee, tea and specialty K-Cup flavors, Keurig users have a nice variety to choose from. If a Keurig filter was purchased, then Keurig users can also select from all of the different coffees that are made for the typical drip coffee maker. What is nice is that everyone can have their own flavor and not be limited to what was made in the coffee pot.

Keurig wins on flavor selection. But how about taste? That is somewhat harder to determine as tastes vary by each individual. Some of my customers love the taste and others don't. I find most of the Keurig K-Cup flavors rather strong for me even when I adjust the cup size to the 12 oz setting. With the coffee pot, I have more flexibility on adjusting both the water and coffee mixtures to suit my taste. I personally prefer the coffee that I make at home, whether it is Folgers French Roast or if it is made from the Dark Chocolate Cherry flavored coffee beans that I grind up. However, I do love the Keurig Hot Cocoa mix. Flavor Winner: Keurig Taste Winner: Tie Cleaning Factor We all know that a coffee pot needs to be washed or at least rinsed out. And if you sneak a cup before theentire pot is finished brewing, you will have drips to wipe up. But don't let anyone tell you that a Keurig never needs to be cleaned. Miscellaneous coffee grounds do escape from the K-Cups and there are also drips and splatters that need to be taken care of. As I am in charge of maintaining both my home machine and the office Keurig, neither is maintenance free. However, the time spent on cleaning each system is minimal, so I will issue a tie. Winner: Tie Special Uses There are a couple other factors to take into consideration when deciding which machine is better for you: Oatmeal Factor - The Keurig is great for making a bowl of instant oatmeal. Set the cup size to six ounces and run hot water through without a K-Cup. Fishing Factor - The coffee pot is great when you are going on an early morning fishing trip and want to bring along a thermos full of hot coffee. It would be more of a hassle and not very economical to fill up a thermos one cup at a time. Winner: Tie Which System is Better? It appears that there is a tie between the two systems. The Keurig won on the Impressiveness and Coffee Flavor categories and the coffee pot won on the Machine Costs and Coffee Costs categories. They tied on the Ease of Use, Cleaning and Special Uses categories. Is a Keurig right for you? My advice is to do the math and calculate if it fits into your budget. If you purchase one $4.00 cup of a specialty coffee each morning on the way to work, a Keurig will save you money. However, if you drink several cups of coffee a day, a drip machine will be more cost efficient. http://www.infobarrel.com/The_Coffee_Pot_vs_The_Keurig_Single_Cup

Two-thirds of the world population has herpes
"It's important to point out that both types of herpes can cause sores in both areas, but the World Health Organization in this report, they did emphasize that there is an increase in the number of genital herpes actually now caused by type 1," Phillips said.

More than 3.7 billion people under the age of 50 -- about 67 percent of the global herpes stuff population -- are infected with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), according to a new report from the World Health Organization. "Access to education and information on both types of herpes and sexually transmitted infections is critical to protect young people's health before they become sexually active," Dr. Marleen Temmerman, Director of WHO's Department of Reproductive Health and Research, said in a statement. Herpes simplex virus is categorized into 2 types, both of which are highly infectious and incurable. HSV-1 causes lesions on the lips or around the mouth commonly referred to as cold sores or fever blisters. It's primarily transmitted by oral-to-oral contact. The other type, herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), is almost entirely sexually transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, causing genital herpes. But the WHO's findings, which were published Thursday in the journal PLOS ONE, highlight that HSV-1 is also an important cause of genital herpes. "Most people contract the virus when they're kids," CBS News medical contributor Dr. Holly Phillips said. "It usually lies dormant in the system. It's incurable. You never get rid of it but it lies dormant most of the time. Every now and again people have outbreaks and that's when you can see the blisters." HSV-2 can lead to more complex health issues, including swelling in the brain and increased risk of spreading HIV. Phillips explained that what sparks outbreaks varies from person to person, but there are some known triggers. "For most people, when their immune system is under stress is when you start to see the blisters," she said. "If they have an illness like the cold or flu -- that's actually how they ended up being called 'cold sores' -- or if you're just fatigued. Some people, if they get a lot of sun exposure, they'll get an outbreak, or women during pregnancy or when they have their menstrual periods. Really anything when your immune system is under attack, these cold sores will come out." http://www.cbsnews.com/news/two-thirds-of-the-world-population-has-herpes/ Experts say the numbers in the new report highlight the need for better education regarding how the virus is spread. 2015 CBS Interactive Inc. American Mechanical Offers Advice On Generators For Hurricane Season.
SOURCE American Mechanical, Inc. Virginia Beach plumbing, electrical and HVAC contractor provides tips for purchase, installation and maintenance of power generators. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., July 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- American

Mechanical, Inc., a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and electrical contractor, reminds residents of Virginia's Atlantic Coast that hurricane season is here and it's not too late to prepare for the power outages often associated with severe weather in this region. The company was recently featured on a local TV talk show to discuss why people should consider a generator for their home. Unlike portable generators, the backup system automatically supplies power to the home's electrical circuit breaker box during an outage, whether someone is at home or everyone is away. The backup system turns itself off once power is restored. Louise Gordon, vice president of operations for American Mechanical, was a guest on The Hampton Roads Show to explain the details of having a permanent standby generator in the home. The homeowner can decide in advance which items will be powered by the equipment, which runs on natural gas or liquid propane gas. Uses might include air conditioning, hot water, a security system, TV and computers. About American Mechanical, Inc.: American Mechanical (http://www.americanmechanicalva.com) has been serving Southeastern Virginia and the Hampton Roads community for more than 20 years. As a heating and air conditioning, plumbing and electrical contractor, American Mechanical provides HVAC repairs, maintenance and installation for both residential and commercial customers. It is a member of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) and Qualified Gas Contractors of Virginia. American Mechanical has received the Angie's List Super Service Award for the past two years. It is a Fox 43 TV First Choice contractor and a Circle of Experts affiliate member of the Hampton Roads Realtors Association. "A permanent home generator installation provides people with the ability to maintain comfort in the event of a http://www.thefreedictionary.com/electrician power outage," said Gordon. "It also offers peace of mind for those with special health needs using an oxygen machine, a heart monitor or taking refrigerated medications." http://www.thefreelibrary.com/AmericanMechanicalOffersAdviceOnGeneratorsForHurricaneSeason.-a0298625481

Electric Boat Trailer Winch Makes Loading Easy!
Regularly inspect your winch line for damage or wear. Replace the cable if it shows signs of deterioration. A cable that breaks under load can lash through the air, creating a dangerous situation for anyone in its way. Some electric boat winches http://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/electrician include a corded or wireless remote that allows the operator to stand clear of the winch in case of cable failure. By: Jesse K. Taylor http://www.articledashboard.com/Article/Electric-Boat-Trailer-Winch-Makes-Loading-Easy/1143717 If you wind the cable back into the shaft when it's not under load, keep the line taut to prevent the cable from kinking or tangling inside the winch housing. Also note that a trailer winch is not designed for use as a hoist or lift. It is only approved for horizontal pulling or for pulling on a slight incline. Even though you might be tempted to rely on your winch to secure your boat to the trailer, an electric marine winch is not designed to act as a tie-down. After loading your boat, unhook the cable from the boat and use separate tie-downs, such as racket straps, to secure your boat to the trailer. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com Electric boat trailer winches make loading your boat quick and easy. These electric winches are designed for easy loading and unloading of your boat. They also leave you with a free hand to guide the boat as needed. On the other hand, a hand crank requires greater strength and effort and, depending on the weight of your boat, can make loading your boat more difficult than it needs to be. If you're in the market for an electric boat winch, look for one that can handle the weight of your boat, including fuel and gear. Since your boat is in the water as you load, the trailer winch can handle a greater load capacity than its rated line pull capacity. The pull capacity of your winch should be at least three-quarters of the combined weight of your boat, motor, fuel, and gear. When you estimate the required load capacity of your trailer winch, keep in mind that the loading incline and other factors can also increase the load on your winch.

Some electric trailer winches include a backup hand crank in case of winch failure, so even if your electric winch stops working, you can still load the boat manually. Five Uses for Generators

Gasoline and diesel generators are a ubiquitous part of our society even if most people do not stop to think about it much. They have many uses that keep our lives in order even when things go wrong. Even the best power grids will have some down time, and when they https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrician do, these amazing machines step in to provide power in their absence. So if you have wondered about these machines before or even if you have never even given them a second's thought, read on to learn five used for generators. Providing Backup Power for Nuclear Power Plants It may seem strange that a power plant would need backup power, but as we all learned from the recent earthquakes in Japan, backup generators are crucial. Nuclear power plants need power to be able to shut down safely in the event of power loss. The backup diesel generators keep batteries charged that allow the reactor to shut down the fusion process slowly, as to prevent nuclear meltdown. So now you know how important generators are in our lives. They provide us energy when we need it, and peace of mind for when it goes out. Related to generators are Marine Engines and Marine Generators that you can look into as well. Powering Cabins and Remote Buildings If you live off the grid, you do not have much choice if you need power. A small gas or diesel generator can provide you all the power that you need while you get away from it all. These devices are small and efficient and can provide lots of power for days on end. This power will give you access to lights, heat, cooking, and charge your portable devices. Roughing it has never been so easy. Providing Backup for Hospitals Hospitals need lots of power. They need it to provide light, to power air filtration devices, and to power machines that keep their patients alive. So if the power grid fails, they need a way to keep the most important machines functioning until it comes back online. This is where backup generators come on. These great machines will fire on and provide a minimum level of power so that live saving machinery is kept running so the hospital staff can keep doing their jobs of saving people's lives. Providing Backup Energy for Emergencies In the event of the power grid failing, especially in situations such as tornado, hurricane, flood, fire, or whatever else, a good generator can be a godsend. These devices can provide energy that will keep your family warm and safe, with hot food, and lights to see by in any emergency. Many of these units are very small and quiet as well. http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/five-uses-for-generators Powering Construction Sites Construction sites need lots of power, and there is not always a completed source nearby to rely on. This is where generators come in. They supply the power the workers need to run tools, have lights to see by, and get the job done. Generators keep these workers working so they can be efficient and get the job done on time.

Michael Murphy, of Staten Island, who had no power and no heat, said yesterday, "We needed 100 percent of the resources here." And that's not all -- stashed near the finish line of the canceled marathon were 20 heaters, tens of thousands of Mylar "space" blankets, jackets, 106 crates of apples and peanuts, at least 14 pallets of bottled water and 22 five-gallon jugs of water. NEW YORK - What a run-around! The city left more than http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes472111.htm a dozen generators desperately needed by cold and hungry New Yorkers who lost their homes to Hurricane Sandy still stranded in Central Park Sunday. "If those generators were here, we maybe could have had some light for the cleanup effort," he said. "Those generators would really have come in handy.''

Review: A2B Kuo Electric Bike
When you're dealing with steep inclines, the electric boost is a godsend -- no more shaky, quivering thighs as you scale that unforgiving, uphill road. Just hold down the throttle and you're coasting. Navigating everyday traffic though, with its unexpected stops and starts, can prove difficult and even a little scary initially, on an electric bike. On the other hand, covering the car-free, six-mile loop in Central Park was a breeze. The steeper sections of the loop would normally put to rest my hopes of a lazy Sunday ride in the park, but not this time. With a flick of the wrist, I laid on the throttle and cruised past cyclists huffing and puffing their way up the hills. There's still plenty of summer left and the warm temperatures mean it's a great time to get reacquainted with the pleasures of biking. While traditional bikes will have you cruising in no time, a new breed of electric bikes are also angling for a piece of the road. For work commuters, electric bikes can also help cut down on the energy expended when you're dressed more for the office and less for serious biking. But depending on how bike-friendly your commute is, the experience won't always be sweat-free. Less-expensive electric bikes are available, but they'll still typically be pricier than traditional bikes. Electric bike defenders will argue that traditional bikes tricked out with all the bells and whistles can get just as pricey. Unfortunately, electric bikes aren't cheap and the Kuo was no exception; the manufacturer's suggested retail price is $1,399. On a nice summer day, biking becomes even more fun when you throw in a motor and throttle. Still, given their higher prices, it likely will be a while before we see more electric bikes on the road. Riding an electric bike can be startling at first. On a traditional bike, you can cruise at a fairly consistent speed, but with electric bikes, each pedal produces a small burst of speed that pushes the bike suddenly forward. It definitely takes some getting used to.

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/review-a2b-kuo-electric-bike/story?id=19884140 If it's possible for a bike to make you feel guilty about not working hard enough, electric bikes will do it. Still, I'm not about to argue with getting 18 miles an hour (based on a reading of an attached odometer) when my best effort on a normal bike would have probably garnered something closer http://www.networx.com/electricians to three miles an hour. But New York City isn't exactly known for its traffic-free streets, and the stop-and-go nature of more than a few streets made for some nerve-wracking moments. In one instance, I was waiting for a red light to turn green when one small pedal-push forward almost sent me straight into the crosswalk before I was ready. I tested the Kuo on short, one-mile commutes between my apartment and ABC News' offices in New York City. On streets with little traffic, the experience was smooth. It took little effort to keep up with the flow of cars and trucks. Unlike traditional bikes, electric bikes have a rechargeable, onboard battery and motor that provide extra oomph for your ride. I recently had the chance to test out A2B's Kuo, an electric bike with a 24-volt battery and 250-watt motor. Another thing to consider when shopping is the 39-pound weight of the bike. The Kuo model I tested was foldable and intended for portability, but I found that it was actually a pain to lug around when folded. The bike has three sensitivity settings, to adjust the ratio between your pedaling effort and the resulting bike speed, but that finer sense of control you get on a regular bike is gone here. Electric bikes can be ridden as normal bikes, but if you want speed, the battery will need to be recharged. On the Kuo this was easy enough, as the lithium-ion battery can be removed from the bike and charged separately if there's not an outlet conveniently located nearby. On average, it should take about four hours and give you a range of 25 miles. So should you consider an electric bike? If you can stomach the hefty price tag, live in a hilly city (e.g. San Francisco) and like having speedier options, electric bikes are exciting to ride once you get used to the mechanisms. One theoretical perk of going electric is the ability to arrive at your destination without breaking a sweat. After all, with a battery-powered motor and on my particular bike, a handlebar throttle, pedaling is almost beside the point. It's way more fun to see how fast you can go on power alone.

'Electric wind' sucked water away from Venus, scientists say
http://www.foxnews.com/science/2016/06/21/electric-wind-sucked-water-away-from-venus-scientists-say.html More on this... "We don't really know why it is so much stronger at Venus than Earth," said Collinson, "but, we think it might have something to do with Venus being closer to the sun, and the ultraviolet sunlight being twice as bright. It's a challenging thing to measure and even at Earth to date all we have are upper limits on how strong it might be." Although Venus is often referred to as "Earth's twin," for being similar in size and gravitational pull, Venus has drastic differences. The planet has surface temperatures of around 860 degrees and a thick atmosphere with about 100 times the pressure of Earth's.

In a report filed on Monday, NASA wrote on its website, the team discovered the planet's electric field while they monitored electrons as they flowed out of Venus' upper atmosphere using the electron spectrometer, a component of the ASPERA-4 instrument, aboard the ESA Venus Express. They found the electrons were not escaping at the speeds that were expected. Scientists said the speed was influenced by Venus' electric field, which is thought to be at least five times more powerful than Earth's. Scientists are taking this information and applying it to hunt for potential electric wind on Mars as part of the MAVEN mission. We already know there isn't any water on Venus, but scientists working with ESA's (European Space Agency) Venus Express mission by NASA-funded researchers think they may have solved the mystery of how the planet's oceans ultimately disappeared: they were sucked away by a powerful electric wind. Sunlight then breaks the water down in the upper atmosphere and the components are whisked away by the electric field. In the case of Venus, hydrogen moves fast and escapes easily, and the planet's strong electric field "can accelerate even the heavier electrically charged component of water -- oxygen ions -- to speeds fast enough to escape the planet's gravity." More on this... Every planet has a gravity field, and scientists believe that every planet with an atmosphere is surrounded by a weak electric field. These two are at odds with one another as gravity strives to hold the atmosphere together and the electric field can push upper layers of an atmosphere into space, according to the report. Glyn Collinson, a scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, said the discovery points to electric wind as, "this big monster that's capable of sucking the water from Venus by itself." "Even a https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/advice/planning/jobprofiles/Pages/electrician.aspx weak electric wind could still play a role in water and atmospheric loss at any planet," said Alex Glocer of NASA Goddard, a co-author on the paper. "It could act like a conveyor belt, moving ions higher in the ionosphere where other effects from the solar wind could carry them away."

Magnetic Power Generator - Free Energy For Life
If you decide to implement magniwork on a full-scale, it will independently power your household meaning that you won't have to pay anything to the power company. The magnetic free energy generator will work by itself perpetually and generate 100% free electric energy. This could be the holy grail for people looking to save on their energy bill. More information about reducing your energy bill by up to 50% is available at the Magnetic Power Generator Free Energy Blogspot. By constructing the magniwork power generator you will be able to generate completely free electric energy, i.e. creating energy without needing any source of renewable or non-renewable energy. The generator powers itself and creates energy by itself without requiring solar energy, heat, water, coal or any kind of resource. This generator powers itself and works indefinitely without stopping, creating a large amount of energy. Here are some of the benefits that Magniwork has: http://www.articlesnatch.com/blog/Magnetic-Power-Generator---Free-Energy-For-Life/628609 The magniwork generator is also a very eco-friendly solution because it doesn't pollute the environment. The generator itself isn't flammable or combustible, so it's completely safe. The magniwork free power generator can be efficiently used to power your home with almost zero costs on your side. Furthermore, the generator is eco-friendly and doesn't produce any harmful byproducts. The amount you can save by building the magniwork free energy generator can vary. If you decide to build the generator as a supplement to your current electrical installation, i.e. partially power your household with magniwork, you can easily save anywhere in the range of 30-50%. This means that your power bill will reduce by 30-50%. How Much Can You Save? Did you know that you could completely eliminate your power bill, by constructing a zero point magnetic power generator? Can this device be used to power a household? What are the Benefits of Magniwork?

Is It Safe? The free energy devices have been suppressed by the corporate world because such devices would allow people to create their own energy for free, which would ultimately shut down the big energy corporations. The magniwork free power generator is safe to use and operate. It doesn't produce any harmful byproducts or gases, and there isn't any hazard concerning the generator itself. Even if you have young children, they may freely walk in the close viccinity of the generator. Free Energy For Life? Really? I understand you may be skeptical of such a thing, and that it is too good to be true, but this is a reality. So how could you utilise the energy from a magnet? A magnet is something that has energy, yet doesn't require energy input. When you try to connect the same polls of a magnet together, you'll feel the force repelling them. This is natural and does not need an energy input to instigate this. Therefore, a magnetic energy generator takes http://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/47-2111.00 advantage of these properties. Hundreds of successful magniwork generators have been built around the world, which proves that this technology really works. It is predicted that the technology will rapidly spread, and some industry-insiders even predict that the magniwork free energy generators will be the energy in the future. These experts estimate, that by 2020 energy companies will start implementing this technology in order to create cheaper and more environment friendly energy. Until that time comes, you can use this technology at a very reasonable set-up cost. A Zero point magnetic power generator is basically a Free Energy Generator. It uses magnets, and magnetic force to induce perpetual motion. It runs by itself indefinitely without stopping, thus creating completely free electrical energy, which can fully power your home for free. A perpetual motion device refers to a machine that runs perpetually i.e. indefinitely, and produces a larger amount of energy than it consumes. Thus, it produces free energy indefinitely and runs by itself without having to need a third-party device or resource to power it. 1. It works in every home and requires only a small amount of space. 2. You can eliminate your power bill by 50% or even completely, depending on how you implement the magniwork generator. 3. It works in all conditions and can work in extreme hot or cold without any problem. 4. The material needed to build the magniwork generator is cheap and easily accessible anywhere in the world. 5. The process has been simplified and the steps are easy to follow, so even a complete novice would be able to follow them. 6. Magniwork contains a bonus chapter about the backgrounds and history of Magniwork.

Wind Generators for Homes
The huge turbines that are found on the airy hilltops, mountain tops, cliffs, onshore http://www.irwin.com/tools/trades/electrician or just beside a sea, unlike those massive machines, wind generators are becoming more popular 'coz of the size and portability they are attainable in. Today, it is possible to even create a mini wind generator and install it in a home, wherein, it could help generate a considerable amount of alternating current throughout the home. Today windmills for home use is kind of a hot topic in this environmental conscious world such that they can be comfortably fixed atop of a farm house or a barn, on the rooftop of a house or on top of a 5 meter pole which is secured in the garden. In any case, grounding roof top generators for homes avails a couple of kW of electrical power sufficiently. However, these turbines are known to produce energy up to 3,000 watts and more. Another consideration for installing wind generators is to reckon the amount of energy you need for your usage. If you need small scale power supply say just for running a few machines in your barn, perhaps, you could go for turbines. These small-scale machines are battery-charged devices which are conveniently portable and can be employed in almost any area of application possessing minimal amount of energy. On the other hand, if you want to settle with wind generator plans which support large energy intake, perhaps going for huge generators might come handy. Considerations on Wind Generators for Homes Speaking of the advantages of wind turbines and the wind generated power for homes, the most economically sound point about wind powered generators is it functions on the simple basics of converting kinetic energy into electricity. So there is no question of any lingering pollution, gases or emission of bi-product in the process. Moreover, even the question of using any sort of natural resources like fuel or gas is needless. It's a simple charisma of air spinning the turbine and creating natural power in turn. Under the subject of considerations when you plan to install a wind generator in your house or farm, make sure you install it in an area which has an efficient amount of wind blowing. That certainly doesn't mean you have to violate all the local laws for grounding your turbine on the highest point of your house. It'll still jut out, which can definitely pose as an obstruction for aerial life. So check out for your local or regional rule before you go ahead and install this super powered machine. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/wind-generators-for-homes.html

Wind generators are widely employed in applications like vacation homes, camping, construction sites, sail boats, remote farms and so on... Such are the places where wind powered generators harness natural wind energy from high wind areas and convert it into electricity. If you are a thorough proactive person, choosing wind generators must appeal to you in its most extreme form. After all you are contributing to conserve and save the environment and bring home green energy to its fullest! Which else would be the better way to save mother Earth! Over the recent years, the technology windmills have exhibited, is magnificent. Making the utmost use of what is around in our surroundings is thousand times better than creating something exceptionally unfathomable and contributing more to the already withering earthly conditions. The energy generated from the natural sources of wind is the alternative sources of energy in its natural form. This form of energy is called electricity, which is the most inexpensive and the biggest solution to the today's electricity shortage problems in several regions across the globe. It is the absolute power of the wind and the turbine; a machine used to convert kinetic energy into efficient mechanical energy which harnesses the wind energy to its extreme potential. As aforementioned, wind generators help convert natural wind energy into electrical energy. Wind generators are also referred to as turbines or wind chargers and are available in varying shapes and sizes. The two most popular types of wind turbines are the: HAWT - Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine and the VAWT - Vertical Axis Wind Turbine. HAWT is high in efficiency but requires a constant alignment in the direction of the wind. On the other hand, VAWT can be mounted easily on a rooftop and doesn't require any specific pointing in the direction of the wind. In addition to that, the mechanism of these generators is really simple. It expends a direct machinery, like a grinding stone or a pump (windmill for short) and converts wind energy into mechanical energy. These systems are also called electro-mechanical systems.

Larry Chandler, Indiana Electrician Facing Foreclosure, Wins $1 Million In Powerball Lottery

Larry Chandler of Highland, Ind., didn't grab the monster prize in Wednesday's record Powerball lottery drawing, but he's feeling thankful just the same. The Powerball lottery, played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, was so popular this week that tickets sold out in many locations. "The fact that his first thoughts were to take care of his mother, his daughter and his girlfriend just makes you feel happy for him," Hoosier Lottery spokesman Al Larsen told The Huffington Post. Before the win, Chandler was facing foreclosure on his home. Now, the electrician plans to start a college fund for his daughter, give some money to his mom and dine with his girlfriend at Red Lobster, the station said. Meanwhile, the nation waits for the the lucky ticket-holders who matched all six numbers to reveal themselves. Chandler won $1 million of the massive jackpot, NBC Chicago reports. He didn't waste any time in claiming the money, either. He showed up first thing Thursday with his ticket at lottery headquarters in Indianapolis. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/29/larry-chandler-powerball_n_2213760.html Although the biggest winners of the $588 million jackpot bought their tickets in Missouri and Arizona, Indiana boasted another feel-good recipient of the Powerball's largesse. Another $1 https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/advice/planning/jobprofiles/Pages/electrician.aspx million winner, Pat Wilkerson of Bruceville, Ind., decided to split her good fortune with her daughter, Michelle Cummins, and her son, Sean Wilkerson, both of Vincennes. All three will receive $333,333 before taxes. "I always knew if I won anything big I would split it with my two children," Wilkerson said in a news release. "That's just a given."

Electrician. - Free Online Library
In May 2004, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook reported that the median hourly earnings of electricians were $20.33. The middle 50 percent earned between $15.43 and $26.90. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $12.18, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $33.63. Job Outlook Most electricians learn their trade through apprenticeship programs. These programs combine on-the-job training with related classroom instruction. Apprenticeship programs may be sponsored by joint training committees made up of local unions of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and local chapters of the National Electrical Contractors Association; company management committees of individual electrical contracting companies; or local chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors and the Independent Electrical Contractors http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes472111.htm Association. Because of the comprehensive training received, those who complete apprenticeship programs qualify to do both maintenance and construction work. Associated Builders and Contractors, Workforce Development Department www.trytools.org Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc www.ieci.org International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers www.ibew.org National Association of Home Builders, Home Builders Institute www.hbi.org National Center for Construction Education and Research www.nccer.org National Electrical Contractors www.necanet.org TECHNICAL TRAINING IN YORK COUNTY, Pennsylvania, began in 1911 when 40 students participated in classes offered through the York City School District. By the early 1960s, it became very apparent that career and technical education was in demand, and the York County School of Technology (York Tech) began construction on a building that produces some of the brightest and most highly skilled graduates in York County and the nation. As senior Ryan Rice explains, "At York Tech you get a high school education equivalent to that of your sending school, but that is not all you get. You also will graduate with a well-taught technical trade that will aid you in the real-world workplace." For more information about the York County School of Technology, visit www.ycstech.org. Reinaman has 28 years of experience in the electrical construction trades and is in his 11th year teaching the electrical class at York Tech. The success of York Tech's Electrical Occupations program and Reinaman's seasoned instruction may be found in statements from students who chose to attend this premier school. The National Electrical Contractors Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers want students, parents and guidance counselors to know about the opportunities available in their field, so they created a special Web site at www.electrifyingcareers.com. Here are other sites to visit for information about a career as an electrician. The Occupational Outlook Handbook also states that employment of electricians is expected to increase through the year 2014. As the population and economy grow, more electricians will be needed to install and maintain electrical devices and wiring in homes, factories, offices
and other structures. The development of new technologies is expected to continue to stimulate the demand for these highly skilled workers. The use of computers and telecommunications equipment and the increase in automated manufacturing systems will require that more complex wiring systems be installed and maintained. Workplace ACCORDING TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, electricians generally specialize in either construction or maintenance work, although a growing number do both. Electricians specializing in construction work primarily install wiring systems into new homes, businesses and factories, but they also rewire or upgrade existing electrical systems as needed. Electricians specializing in maintenance work primarily maintain and upgrade existing electrical systems and repair electrical equipment. "This class prepares students for the world of work," says Reinaman. "We hold students to the standards employers would. They are required to dress in professional dress. This includes wearing the shop shirt (tucked in), long work pants, work boots or shoes, safety glasses and a hard hat." Earnings The program offers instruction in the basic phases of the electrical construction field as well as industrial applications. Areas of instruction include electrical safety and basic electrical theory including circuit analysis using Ohm's law. Students study residential wiring, which builds mechanical skills, as well as learning basic circuitry and blueprint reading. Students then move on to commercial wiring and commercial wiring practices, including conduit bending and installation. They study motors and motor maintenance, basics of motor controls using relays, contactors and motor starters. http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Electrician.-a0159487451 Electricians work both indoors and out at construction sites, in homes, and in businesses or factories. Work may be strenuous at times and include bending conduit, lifting heavy objects, and standing, stooping and kneeling for long periods of time. Some electricians may have to travel long distances to job sites. Electricians risk injury from electrical shock, falls and cuts; they must follow strict safety procedures to avoid injuries. "Most of the students that enroll in Electrical Occupations intend to join the workforce upon graduation," says York Tech Electrical Occupations Instructor Michael Reinaman. "Students who are eligible are placed with contractors their senior year. These jobs give students valuable experience and typically turn into full-time employment upon graduation." For More Information York Tech's Electrical Occupations program has been in existence for more than 30 years. The four-year program accepts students from ninth through 12th grades, and prepares students for future and successful careers in the electrical field. Upon graduation the students have developed mechanical skills through the use of hand and power tools; can analyze and install various types of circuitry; and use and understand the National Electrical Code. Educational Requirements SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT When installing electrical systems, electricians work with blueprints that indicate the locations of circuits, outlets, load centers, panel boards and other equipment. Electricians must follow the National Electrical Code and comply with state and local building codes when they install these systems. Regulations vary depending on the setting and require various types of installation procedures. York County School of Technology Apprentices usually start at between 40 and 50 percent of the rate paid to fully trained electricians, depending on experience. As apprentices become more skilled, they receive periodic pay increases throughout the course of their training. Some electricians are members of unions such as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. York Tech enrolls students from 14 different school districts. Students choose to leave their home schools and come to York Tech for their technical and academic training. The school operates on a "week about" program, with students spending one week in academics and the next week in their chosen career areas. Once students have completed York Tech's Electrical Occupations program and have shown competence in the major areas of study, they are ready to be placed in the co-op program. This program offers them the opportunity for employment by a local contractor, or in another job where their electrical skills will be used.
