You were wringing your hands as you stood outside Teller-Morrow. Your dad’s bike was there, so was Kozik’s. You weren’t sure if that was a good thing or not. On the one hand, this was hugely personal and you wanted some privacy with your dad. On the other hand, if he took it terribly it might be good to have company. Since it was Kozik’s bike, the other option was the two were brawling and you would have to put this off anyway.

You wanted to believe your dad would support you. He didn’t seem to give a shit what people did with their own lives but you were his kid. That made it a lot closer to home. He hadn’t cared when you cut your hair short and wore exclusively male clothes. In fact, he seemed to like it when you tried to be more like him in some respects (obviously there were some parts you chose not to emulate). 

You were ready. You were going to go through with this.

You opened the doors and saw Kozik sitting at the bar while your dad was stood at the pool table, apparently playing against himself.

“Hey dad. Hey Kozik.” You said when they both turned to see who had come in.

“Hey kiddo.” Kozik smiled. You liked Kozik, even knowing your dad could barely stand the guy a lot of the time.

“Stopping by to visit me? I’m flattered.” Your dad teased, approaching you and pulling you into a quick side hug. 

“Yeah.” You shrugged. No turning back. Just get it over with. “Can I talk to you about something?”

Tig picked up that there was definitely something serious on your mind.

“Of course. Church?” He suggested, assuming you wanted privacy.

You nodded. You figured it would give you the desired privacy but also an easy out if you needed it. Tig led the way and you decided to leave the door open a crack, just in case.

“What’s going on? Is something wrong? Is someone fucking with you?” Tig’s questions rolled out. His concerned parent side was coming out and he thought of a million things that could be going on, none of them good.

“No, no one’s fucking with me. And nothing’s wrong. Not really. I mean, I don’t think it’s wrong but you might.” 

Now your dad was just confused. You could see it on his face. Taking a deep breath, you plowed ahead.

“Dad, I’m trans. Transgender. I, I don’t really know how to explain it but I’m a guy. It’s why I cut my hair and stuff.”

Tig was a little taken aback. He didn’t say anything, trying to process the weight of that statement. Then he decided, fuck it. He didn’t need to process anything.

“I love you.” That was all he decided he needed to say.

“You do?”

“Seriously? You’re my kid. Of course I love you. No matter what. You could tell me you killed someone and I’d still love you.”

“Thank you. I love you too.” You fought back the tears welling in your eyes, not knowing that your dad was doing the same thing.

“C’mere.” He pulled you into a real, full bodied hug.

After a moment, he let go.

“Do you want to tell all the guys too? So they know what to call you and shit?”

“Yeah, I do.”

“Okay. Let’s go.”

The two of you walked out of the room and Kozik looked up.

“Hey asshole.” You laughed at your dad’s way of getting Kozik’s attention.

“Kozik, I’m trans. Could you call me [Y/N] from now on?” You asked. 

Kozik just broke out into a grin.

“Hell yeah dude. I’m proud of you brother. Shit takes guts.”

You were now positively beaming. Those two didn’t agree on much, but you were glad to see both of them in your corner.
