Let’s turn this around and upside down--

Because there’s the easy way and the hard way, and the hard way’s much funner in my opinion.

The alcohol stench arouses a predetermined pain. He tightens his facial muscles, turning his head away in the attempt to escape the smell. He is idealizing the outcome. There is no eluding the situation.

That singular thought causes Henry to loosen his muscles and lower his head. He’s giving in to the inevitable.

Henry registers the cool touch of the wipe first. Soon after, his brain receives a shock of minute sear. Once again his body tenses up and hisses his detest.

Applying the gauze and tape offers no relief. The strong appendages forcefully apply the bandage, pressing into his already sore flesh. Once the task is complete, his hand tenderly shields the injury from Frank. 

Henry softly speaks his gratitude, half-hoping Frank doesn’t catch wind of his whisper. Eager to regain his composure, he haphazardly pulls his shirt over his head and slides his arms through the sleeves. He can breathe free from tension, only for a second. He smooths a hand down his torso, fingers feeling the protruding ribs underneath the cloth. He clenches the fabric, twisting it with grinding teeth.

His scars were not for Frank to see.

“Jorge Valdez,” he parrots, standing form the couch to travel to his computer station. A few click of the keys and swiping the mouse across the desk, Henry finds the answer to Frank’s request.

“We got ourselves a rising star in the drug world. He’s nothing special yet but getting enough recognition. I can enter their network, copy a few emails and get you his meeting locations.”

he keeps quiet; assessing the situation with a soldier’s awareness, and his hands fall into a routine. he knows how to piece himself back together, and well enough to avoid a doctor’s needle, but there’s always SOMETHING that makes it hurt worse when someone else is picking and prodding.

henry better not fucking vomit. 

frank’s teeth tear open a few packs of alcohol swabs at a time. it’s not going to be pretty, and it’s not MEANT to be pretty; war hurts, war offers no sympathy, and if frank is given a chance to give henry a little reminder in hopes that the kid will smarten up and leave…. he’s going to take it.

swabs get pressed in, wiping away the dried blood as well as the fresh, followed quickly by thick gauze and tape. there’s nothing gentle in frank’s scar-bitten fingers, but he’s not a sadist ( when it matters ), and keeps it efficient. 

         ❛  sit up, see if the tape catches on anything. then pull up what you can find on jorge valdez.  ❜

THE MEANING BEHIND YOUR URL. the url was inspired by the movie platoon, where charlie sheen’s character (chris) is torn between two officers of different moralities. i found that henry is much like chris, thus i used part of the ending monologue ‘--a child born of these two fathers’
