Week 5, Summary
This week was interesting mainly because we got to use new software and because it was somehow like Photoshop. I had a go at using different tools on Substance Painter. Other than using Substance Painter, I did some more modelling work. I tried to do similar things to what we did in the tutorials, but I had forgotten some things. I went and watched some more tutorials to see what I was doing wrong and what else I needed to do. I wanted to practice more Maya work because I like modelling on it. I enjoy it even more after we started the Fantastical Creatures project. I hope to do well on these projects because I really like them.

Week 5
This week we were introduced to substance Painter.
Tumblr media
I used plastic grid and carbon fiber materials for this.
Tumblr media
This bit of work was quite nice because it felt similar to Photoshop, but with some major differences. I quite like this software because of its similarity to Photoshop, but I like both Maya and Substance Painter. There were some bits of this workshop were I got lost on bits but I will work on it by doing more practice exercises. We had this tutorial alongside the Fantastical Creatures project which I’m really enjoying working on.

Week 4 Summary
This week went very quickly. This week’s tutorial was very hard for me I did roughly understand the processes but when it came to the HDRi part I was completely lost. I did finish this bit of work, but I forgot to save it the correct way, so some files were missing and I’m very sad because it happened because my carelessness. We also played around with the Totem’s colour and material abilities. The Totem is the three heads that were stacked on top of each other. I don’t want to drag others down with my slow understanding of certain parts of CG because I know that most people just want to get on with their work. I tend to ask questions after the lesson is over, but I do ask questions in-between if I really have no clue of what is going on. So far, I think that in this project I have found my likes and dislikes. My likes include Modelling and UVing and my dislikes include Lighting and Compositing the models on to a background. I guess I neither like or dislike Animating in 3D and Rendering. Overall, this week was not too bad, but it could’ve been better.

Week 4
This week we had a tutorial on Lighting and Rendering.
Tumblr media
I was so silly I didn’t save the file with HDRi properly, so now I don’t have that file. This was quite complex and I have to Adam was going through the tutorial quite fast, he did come to help in-between the tutorial, which was helpful.
Tumblr media
This was the image file that I had chosen. Now really regret not even taking a screenshot of the version with the TOTEM composited on this. I guess all my focus was on the tutorial because it was so quick but mainly because I was slow at doing some of the steps.
I think I need lots more practice on this area of CG.

Week 3, Summary
This week’s workshop (UVing and Texturing) was especially interesting I had never ever done anything like this before. Cutting the UV shell was quite interesting but tedious depending on the level of complexity of the model. The bird wasn’t too hard, but it wasn’t easy either. I did get confused at the later stages of the cutting and sewing bits, but I managed to do it. As for the other models I also managed to finish them. I think the best work this week was probably the bird or the cereal box. Again, I will need practice for this. I will try to watch some tutorials on YouTube and LinkedIn Learning to see how things are made on Maya. I find YouTube more comfortable because on LinkedIn Learning it is usually crammed with so many videos on similar subjects. I do still use LinkedIn Learning every now and then.

Week 3
This week we had UV workshop. We created UV Textures for ‘Birdie’ which was created by Adam.
Tumblr media
This is BIRDIE.
Tumblr media
This is my UV cuts.
And finally the colorful BIRDIE.
Tumblr media
This was a nice project I really enjoyed the UVing process. I wouldn’t mind doing this. It is tedious but I actually really really liked it.
As well as this we also did some other UVs as well. We made a ‘Cereal Box’ and a ‘Dice’ that had pre-made patterns.
The dice was slightly more harder to do because I missed a few steps. But I did finish it.

Week 2, Summary
This week has been more interesting, we created some models on Maya. Out of the models that I have created so far, the pencil was probably the best, and the worst would be the Radio if we look at the work that I’ve done this week, however if we include last week’s work it would definitely be the Pig as mentioned last week. If I didn’t have to get the bus back home, I would have stayed longer to do more work. I really like the CG modelling. It is very fun. I do think that I like flat images the best, but I’m starting to like the modelling side of CGI. I’m not very keen on animating 3D. I prefer the 2D approach to animating, yes, you must draw each frame and the computer doesn’t do most of the work for you, but I enjoy the process of making each frame. Who knows if there might be a story in each frame? I’m thinking going into CG route. I feel like I’m learning so many new things in CG. It might be going slightly fast, but I should be better with practice. When I was doing the 2D project at the start of the year I felt that is was slightly dragging along at the start but this project even from the beginning is going quite fast. I really hope this project goes well.

Week 2
This week we did some more work on Maya. On Monday we did more modelling on Maya. We created a pencil from scratch.
Tumblr media
This was quite hard to model at first but then I got the gist of things. I’m so happy with my pencil. It looks pretty good for a beginner model.
Then we did something more complex like a Radio. Now this was almost a complete disaster. I kept on getting behind but I was able to catch-up with the others, however I wasn’t able to fully complete the radio. I was very disappointed with myself. Well it just means that I need more practice on Maya. Here’s the Radio:
Tumblr media
I just realised that I made the radio the wrong way round. but it is fine because the this the rotation tool.
I stayed behind after lunch on Wednesday and Thursday to do some modelling practice. I ended up making a treasure chest.
Tumblr media
You may be able to see it but this wasn’t finished either but while making this model I was able to learn a lot more new things as well as practice the techniques that I learned in the previous CG workshop.
I will try to continue to do this method of practice. If I didn’t have to get the bus back home, I would have stayed longer to do more work. I really like the CG modelling. It is very fun, but it had its strengths and weaknesses. Now I’m thinking that I want to go into CG route. I feel like I’m learning so many new things in CG. It might be going slightly fast, but I should be better with practice. I really hope this project goes well.

Week 1, Summary
This week went by quite slow, but I think this new project is going to be very fun as well as being confusing for me and maybe others, especially since I haven’t done much CG work before. I’ve used Maya maybe once or twice, another 3D software that I have used is just SketchUp which we don’t seem to be using. So, I’m not going to do too well with CG is what I thought, but I was proven wrong, I didn’t do too well or too bad, I was in the middle. Not just this but I was able to learn more about Maya and modelling & animating on it. The basics were mostly straightforward, there were the occasional mess-ups, but it was mostly very fun the Workshop we had. My Pig from the Workshop doesn’t really look like a pig apart from the fact it was pink. Overall, I think this week went very well. I hope that the coming weeks will be just as enjoyable and I hope to learn more about CG, after all it is a very demanding industry path. On almost every time I look at a job site there is always a few jobs regarding 3D CGI, like 3D Modelling, or 3D Rigging and others. When I first started the course, I thought that 2D was going to be my main route but that doesn’t seem be what I want now. Of course, I want to do 2D as well alongside CG.

Week 1
On Monday we had our first CG lesson with Adam. In this lesson we created a UFO spaceship and a farm animal, I tried to create a pig, some people created cows and other animals. Once we created the spaceship and ‘my pig’ we animated. It was a short abduction sequence.
youtube
This is was very fun but I also made a lot of mistakes making this especially when making the pig. I also found that my camera wasn’t set properly when I did my playblast, which you can see from the video. Well you will only be able to learn properly through mistakes. This is me saying from experience. I tend to remember things that I did wrong more clearly than the things I did right.
I will try to practice more Maya but I won’t really be able to do any learning at home because my current computer can’t handle the Maya software. Until I get my new computer I will have to do CG work at Uni.
I’m kind sad that I won’t be able to practice at home but I guess I will be able to focus on other project instead at home.
