Work Details: mixed media - watercolour, graphite, digital rendering, beadwork, collage-effect.

Watercolour and graphite portrait of Maedhros Fëanorian during his recovery, with slightly greying hair, an arm in bandages and subtle scars across his torso, and an incomplete/disintegrating gemstone crown beside him. A couplet from the Scottish broadside poem, “Mary Queen-o-Scots” as choral-presented as a skipping song in Laurie Lee’s Cider with Rosie warps, multiplies and looms around him. The wallpaper is layered with multiple digitally rendered motifs, including Fëanorian heraldry interpreted “Islamicate” style as a Mughal-era shamsa based on Shah Jahan’s heraldry, birds, entwined figures, mountains, and an upside-down throne statue in the classical Greek style.

Had some fun working with one of my favourite subjects (distressed Maedhros with his nipples out) for @tolkienrsb and believe me when I say my antenna made a SPROING! noise out of sheer delight and anticipation when I realised the fantastic @tobermoriansass would be writing the accompanying fic! Reveals in just over a week! ✨

tysm for asking !!!!! since i answered the last ask with some angst, here’s a happier snippet about elrond playing with elros as a child.

They ran like madmen, sand kicking up around their feet, blowing away in the wind to assault someone’s eyes with rough grains. The twins paid no mind, however, as their current endeavor was much more important than whatever poor soul happened to be on the shore at the same time as them. Elros raced after his brother, fingertips outstretched trying to surpass him, but to no avail — Elrond had always been faster.
