7 Quick Changes to Do In Your Resume
With the time everything evolves and brings about the changes. Resume writing is also not aloof from this process. There comes a time, when the clock ticks and prompts to do certain small but vital changes in the resume as well. Here are some quick tips and tricks to bring some changes in your resume and that too by spending a very less amount of time.
1- Alter the font: This trick is similar to a quick makeover. After some time, using the same font across your resume looks monotonous. Drift away from common Times New Roman, Verdana to a different font like Calibri, Cambria, Georgia to name a few. But remember not to be too much experimental as it might lose the readability. Make sure that the fonts are readable and clear. So, what are you looking for? Press Ctrl + A and change the font of your entire document.
2-Objective Statement: First of all, do not use the word ‘objective’ while writing one. Simply and clearly state the focus area of the profile. Same objective statement for all the job applications might not be suitable. Try changing the wording, language and the way the statements is written. This would be the first thing that a recruiter will read through. So, be cautious.
3-Address Not Required: Remove the address from the personal details section if you have not done so till now. If the job location is far way, recruiters might turn down thinking of the commute time you would spend in getting there. So, better to take the decision on your own whether it is worth to commute everyday for the job that you are willing to have, rather than leaving the decision on hiring manager.
4-Add your LinkedIn URL: After you given your contact details, email id, state your LinkedIn URL link as well, so that if a recruiter wants to know something more about you, it shows a path to them. Your LinkedIn provides a ready reference to the recruiter and help them taking the decision of calling you for the interview or not.
5-Take care of Skill section: Whatever you have quoted in your skills and competencies section might not be relevant in today’s context. So a quick assessment and addition of your current skills might do wonders. If you belong to those industry which require technical skills as well as functional skills, segregating them would be a good idea.
6-Action Packed: Take a close look at the roles and responsibilities part of your resume. You will surely find some boring and backdated verbs such as ‘taking care of’, ‘acting as’, ‘responsible for’ to name a few. Instead of them charge up your profile by using words like, ‘led’, ‘managed’, ‘chaired’, ‘controlled’, ‘executed’, ‘headed’, if they go well with your kind of profile.
7-Show your Growth: You might be working for a company for longer time, but probably ignored to show the promotion and growth which you have received. So, clearly show your promotions, multiple roles and positions of responsibilities clearly in the profile

4 Jumps To Managerial Jobs With Lean Six Sigma, But There’s A Catch!
You think you are ready to be a manager or enter the management side of the profession. Yet there are a few stops left to get there. Some of us really have that impatience with the organizational setbacks holding back on our growth. And they can’t be blamed because they are the sum total of employees and their growth - the average of that of teams. Yet self-growth is equally important, irrespective of other factors.
But, before jumping to calculations and conclusions, here’s a quick guide to check if you really are ready to be the right fit for managerial profiles.
The simple methods of introspection go as follows:
Current Position: Your current position will define how much boost you need and also if you are even ready for the boost. It is best to consult colleagues, especially the Team Leader, Reporting Manager, and HR on the matter. They can give you valuable insights, although what you need answering is “In my current state, which position do you think I can stand on and what better can you gamble me with?” basically, where you are, can be, and how far is what you need to know. Also, if possible, get to know what is holding you back as well.
Potential Check: With the third party reviews already defining the potential they see, you need to check a few things too. If you were put at max two positions behind your desired starting point, then do your research. Know the position, work, responsibility, and if you have a clear understanding and ability to take them and all those below it. Also, how much of it has been undertaken by you already. Get some experience, if not directly.
Responsibility: This is the point where managers are separated from the others. Can you be fast, practical, and efficient all at the same time? Can you take the risk on your job over your team and develop them for it too? Can you be honest and progressive with work and team and selectively diplomatic as well? There is a load of such qualities that a good manager requires, do you have it in you?
The last part is probably the most important. And if you confirm yourself to all of them, then you may want to consider Lean Six Sigma certification which can greatly increase your chances to reach where you wish to be. Lean Six Sigma course is quite extensive and is segmented into 5 skill levels. Based on your evaluation you may want to opt for one of these:
White Belt: Individuals are taught team level problem-solving support but aren't a major part of the Six Sigma project team. This can help you get to the level of Sub-team Leader to Team Leader, basically the Entry Level Managerial profiles in an organization.
Yellow Belt: They are typically taught to project members who assist with process improvements and provide project support. Campaign Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Assistant Operations Managers and similar profiles fall around this category, Intermediate Managerial Profiles.
Green Belt: Instructed to help collect information/data and provide any analysis that might be necessary. They also help to provide leadership for Green Belt project teams. Profiles falling in this category are named similar to former but belonging to Mid-Senior Managerial Profile.
Black Belt: Individuals that have this certification level are charged with leading projects that solve high-level problems and also provide coaching to team members. Project Managers, Operations Manager, and all the way to Director level; Senior Managerial Profiles basically.
There is also a Masters Black Belt Course which is a big leap for those looking for teaching opportunities in Six Sigma itself. It is best to go for a minimum of Green Belt levels since it aids in the long-term progress and future-ready profiling. Black belt, while points to Senior levels, it is still very difficult to enter without either experience or (proven) exceptional skills, although this may just be the break you need. Once complete, the certification opens prospects in-house and outside of current employer as well, which is the next leap one needs to take to eventually make the most of it.
While Six Sigma Certification will certainly add value to the profile, the progress, the leap itself is dependent on your projection, readiness, and will to prove your worth for the profile you are going for. However, if you are considering higher studies in management, consider Project Management Certification as well along with Six Sigma. Once in management, it becomes easier to choose the right path for further specialization than going in without experiences. A well-planned career path and prioritized goals are imperative, if not mandatory, to have a great career ahead.

Cubicle Workspace Manners
Although the cubicle workspace has no doors, still there are several things which one should take care of during the working hours. Working within cubicles is somewhat like working in the neighborhood. Your co-workers are adjacent to your workspace and work together to achieve a common goal. In this case, you have to maintain decorum so as not to drive them crazy. Let’s look at some Do’s and Don’ts.
Do not Chit-Chat too often: Though we spend 8-9 hours of the day within the office premises and it is quite natural to have a conversation with our peers and colleagues. But understand the difference between conversation and chit-chat. Remember, you are not there to make friends, you are there to work. Be mindful of the distraction that your chit chat cause to others.
Respect Other’s Privacy: A cubicle is not a cabin and it is an open space, still you should take care of other’s privacy. If someone is taking a call, you should not interrupt and bother them during the call unless it is an emergency situation. While talking, you should also take care of the words you are using. If it is something confidential and you don’t want others to overhear, go to a vacant room. Personal conversations should be outside your workspace.
Do not disrupt abruptly: If you see somebody is engrossed in his/her own work and seems quite unaware of the other things going around, do not disturb him/her unnecessarily. Let him/her finish off the task and then you can talk. If somebody is trying to divert when you are at a critical point of thinking about the project ongoing, you can make him/her understand about the importance of work you are about to do with a smile or a gesture that says, you will get back shortly.
Not too loud: While speaking over the phone, make sure your voice is not too loud. Use headphones if you are listening to songs as this may disturb others sitting beside you. Try not to use loudspeaker too often. Show sensitivity to others’ need to concentrate as well.
Stop before They Pop: There will some co-workers who come and stand at your desk every now and then which is one of the biggest distractions. If you have a tea-coffee partner, set aside time to fill your water bottle or have tea together, so that rest of the time you can focus on your work. If somebody comes to greet you, it’s okay for the first time, but when it keeps occurring throughout the day, you somehow need to raise a red flag but with politeness. Similarly, If you need to have a quick discussion, send a mail or use internal messaging asking for a quick 5-minute discussion about a project.
If you are Foodie: One of my colleagues in the previous organization had a habit of munching something or the other all day long. Her workstation used to be full of chips wrapper, biscuits packets, and other food leftovers. This was surely not a great sight whoever passes her cubicle. Even the food smell distracts other employees sitting near you.
