(this is OLD !!! remember the abundance of asl + whitebeard pirate fics ? that had been on my mind and i couldn’t do anytbing else until i wrote at least a little about it)

They know the three are close. It was never disclosed what their relationship is, but Marco wouldn't be surprised if they claimed to be brothers. They've obviously been through thick and thin together and have no plans to change that.

It just never occurred to him how codependent they might be.

It wasn't shown immediately. The nurses decided now was the perfect time to finally treat their myriad of scrapes and bruises, and the smallest boy is the only one that isn't openly hostile. They take the two unconscious boys and transfer them to two separate cots, and the little one watches with nothing more than an intent, worried glint in his eyes. They even manage to get his name.

When Marco picks the boy—Luffy, they learn—up, he doesn't protest, so Marco assumes it's fine. While Luffy’s also a little banged up, his friends are their top priority, and it's best they decide on where they're going to stay. Marco had figured bringing the kid along would make it easier so that he could help choose the room.

Only, when Marco turns around, it must click in Luffy's mind that they're leaving, and he starts wriggling violently in Marco's grasp.

"No! No! I wanna stay with Ace and Sabo!" the boy exclaims. He almost manages to slip away, but Marco quickly readjusts his grip, and he bucks again. "Let me go! I wanna stay!"

"Luffy, the nurses need to focus," Marco tells him. "They can't have anyone in their way."

Luffy ignores him completely. "I want Ace and Sabo! Stop it!"

Marco makes it out of the infirmary. The second the doors close, Luffy bursts into tears.

Marco flounders. "Luffy—”

"Let go!" the boy wails. "My brothers! I want my brothers!"
