Sometimes when you happen upon a book, it's like a previously blank part of your mental map suddenly being filled in. "Ah, this road connects this part of town to that area!", and now two formerly distant areas have grown closer in your mind. Carla Speed McNeil's "Finder" is like that to me. A comic that closes a number of gaps in my own personal comic map that I carry safely contained in my own head. A phrase far too foreboding when talking about "Finder", but I won't get too ahead of myself. I'm not ready to take the blame for spoiling certain aspects of that comic for my own readers. It's a sin I won't eat just yet.

I hummed and hawed a long time over a certain choice of word on this page. Normally I tend to be quite candid, but I always stay within my own ballpark. Chalk it up to being a tumblr.com user in my formative years from 2014 until… up until now, in fact. Instead, I found myself digging around in my studybooks from my History degree, and landed on the term "Vaganti". Originally meant to refer only to vagrant clerics, it was also (mis-)used for all kinds of vagrant people in Europe. This lumping together of all kinds of people "outside of society" seemed like a good fit for an emerging nationalist state like Fiore. An "other" for the settled Fiorans to define themselves against. And that eventually leads to the kind of violence we see today. You may draw your own conclusions from there.

Come, let us adore it - the end of 2nd Verse: LOVE. Nothing is the same as when I started working on this part of the chapter. I lost my old job and found a completely different one. There is a new love in my life. I developed a completely new schedule for working on the comic and art in general, after spending a much longer time than anticipated unable to draw at all. AND I am missing an organ... actually I don't miss it that much, it was only causing trouble towards the end. Life came at me fast, but it's been a learning experience. Taking a longer break from updating felt right. Therefore, the comic will go on hiatus until March 4th, 2025. On that day, the 5th anniversary of Souls Foreclosed, Third Verse: HOPE will launch, at 1 page per week every Wednesday. Hopefully with a few double updates here and there we might see the end of the comic by mid 2026. And to think I had hoped to rid myself of this Sisyphean boulder by 2025... Volume VI-2, "Enchiridion: LOVE" will be available late January 2025! It collects the entirety of 2nd Verse: LOVE, plus some bonus material. Look out for announcements on my socials. Generally, following me on Bluesky or Instagram seems to be a good and just thing everyone should be doing, because I am abhorrently good at posting. Bold words coming from someone who kept a tally of her institution's ongoing human sacrifices, but sadly not exactly an exaggeration from real life. You don't need me to tell you that. Over the course of the last 4 years, reality has outpaced my comic in terms of widely broadcast ghoulishness and apathy towards it. Maybe our eyes are just more open than they used to be. I know mine are. It's not your responsibility to right every single wrong, but you can help someone e.g. a single family in Gaza such as Amina's. Don't let your heart become hardened.
