Former Kalafina member KEIKO to have her solo debut in May ~ First attempt at writing lyrics/A song with a sprinting vibe
One year after the disbandment of the female vocal unit Kalafina former member KEIKO (34) is set to solo debut in May. Her deep beautiful alto voice will return.
After leaving the group Kalafina with ten years worth of memories it took some time until she was able to face music again. She has been taking a well-deserved break, became a qualified dressing instructor for traditional clothing and travelled to Cambodia to visit the ruins there. At one point someone asked her what kind of songs she would like to sing but she had no idea, she could not answer. That came as a great shock to her. That’s when she decided she would use that opportunity to start a search for what she wanted. By listening to music of different genres she started to find ways of expressing herself.
“Maybe I don’t need to find a concrete answer in my research. I felt like it wasn’t so much about having a result, it was more about the process of aiming for something, that was more my style. It’s fun to meet new people and try out new things that you have never done before.”
Starting this spring she will be signed up with the agency Tristone who also manage Shun Oguri, Miwa and many other talents. In May she will be releasing the songs 「命の花」 and 「Be Yourself」 under the label Avex. 「命の花」 will be her first attempt at writing lyrics. 「Be Yourself」is a new kind of song with a sprinting vibe. “I added lyrics to some melodies I liked but I only wanted to listen to those songs, not sing them. So I thought I would try singing the type of songs that I had never sung before. I tried a few things but if something was no good I didn’t even bother, I was fired up and wanted to face the music with all my might.
Of course she treasures the path she has taken in the past. “I have always and will always treasure Kalafina’s music.” But she would also like to step up and make new music as solo artist for everyone who already knows her and for those who are yet to discover her. An album release is scheduled for autumn, a tour is also planned.
“I have a strong desire to take up this challenge” Everyone, please look forward to KEIKO’s energising music!
The interview was conducted in late March, here’s Keiko’s comment in response to the spread of the new coronavirus.
“Nowadays, the industry is brought to a standstill and as everyone else I want to protect the people most precious to me. Still, I have chosen this time to start being active again. Things are changing day by day, I hope we can overcome all obstacles by supporting each other, by being flexible and strong. I hope the day arrives soon when I am able to share my music with all of you!”

Old/new Keiko content
I come bearing good news.
All of us have been craving new Keiko content for the past 1½ years. I recenty found something quite exciting. It’s about a small project Keiko did in the past. It’s been buried pretty deep. Currently Japanese fans are treating this like a state secret, only a selected few people know about it (although I am assuming the news are getting shared privately). They are hesitant to make this info public because - as always - they enjoy keeping things to themselves. However, I think there is absolutely no reason to be secretive about this, no harm is done in sharing this information with others. I think everyone has the right to know about it since it is a lovely discovery for all fans of Keiko (or Kalafina in general).
I would rather not completely disrespect their decision to keep this under wraps (and I certainly do not want to get lynched by the entire Japanese Kalafandom) so I have decided on a sort of compromise, I have made a separate document with all the juicy details. I will send a link to the document to everyone who LIKES or REBLOGS this post and leaves a REPLY requesting the link. The following rules apply:
The content of that document is for PERSONAL USE ONLY
DO NOT SHARE the link or its content anywhere else (publicly or privately)
Do NOT MENTION this on other social media sites
I reserve the right not to send a link
If you wanna share your thoughts about it feel free to send me a PM on Tumblr or Twitter. I am happy to do some fangirling with you

I wonder if, tucked in a drawer or buried in someone’s C: drive, there exists a script for the final episode of The Simpsons.
Surely they must know that, someday, they will need such a document. But has anyone dared to draft it yet?

My WLW-centric YA novel ‘In the Way of All Flesh’ is now available for preorder on Kindle!
You can preorder it here.

Gloomy teenager Manee Srikwan wears long sleeves and keeps her hands to herself for a good reason–whenever she touches a person for the first time, she sees a vision of how they will die. Manee’s weird powers cause those around her nothing but misery and she’s long resigned herself to a life of loneliness. But her vivacious classmate, Stephanie Pierce, changes all that. She smashes through every wall Manee puts up and overturns every expectation. Much to Manee’s shock, Stephanie believes her about her powers. What’s more, she insists they can stop the deaths Manee sees from happening. When the two of them are together, it feels like they can do anything.
As the girls grow closer, Manee’s feelings for Stephanie blossom into love. She yearns to be more intimate but is anxious about breaking her all-important “hands-off ” rule. When she finally gives in to temptation, she sees a terrifying future where Stephanie is murdered — and Manee is her killer! Now Manee has a choice to make— will she fight this fate or let it rule her?
Trigger warnings: This book centers on death and grieving, including death of minors and suicide. It also explores mental illness, mainly depression and anxiety issues, with some suicidal ideation. Emotional and physical child abuse is an element touched upon as well.
(Physical copies will be available by the release date, as well as copies for Nook and Kobo.)
Buy the book here.

Blue (1997)
(5/5) Wonderful, powerful, painful romance-drama manga by Kiriko Nananan.
Blue is told with a minimalistic use of text and imagery, which perfectly suits the story it is trying to tell. In many ways it’s a simple relationship drama, chronicling an uncertain friendship, an unsure romance, between schoolgirls Kayako Kirishima and Masami Endo. It eschews melodrama and easy narrative paths, capturing something complex with a clear and unflinching gaze.
Well under an hour to read it cover-to-cover. The artwork is beautiful, the characters enchanting, and the story a beautiful reminder of what you can do with so little.

Fall 2018 Anime Overview: Bloom into You
Yuu Koito is a girl who’s troubled by the fact she’s never felt the romantic passion she sees so often in shoujo manga and other media. She’s thrown for a loop when the seemingly level-headed and mature student council president, Touko Nanami, suddenly confesses her love for her. Yuu finds out Touko’s calm facade hides a much more complicated person than she could ever imagine.
If you’re someone on the lookout for yuri that tells a sincere and heartfelt queer narrative rather reveling in fetishization and fanservice, Bloom into You is absolutely a series you should check out. If you’re someone on the lookout for a beautifully directed, complex emotional drama that really delves into the struggle with identity and relationships teenagers experience growing up, this is absolutely a series you should check out. If you’re just on the lookout for good anime, this is still. absolutely. a series you should check out.

Bloom into You has a bit of a slow start and builds its narrative brick by brick, but if you’re anything like me or most of the people I know who’ve watched this, it will have hooked with your heart in its clutches by the end.
Part of why I think this series is something special has to do with how it engages so honestly with wlw (women-loving-women) experiences. It acknowledges the obstacles and prejudices wlw face, but also represents that there’s a larger community and wlw can offer each other support and solidarity. It directly confronts the “this is a phase, you’ll grow out of it and want to be with a man” rhetoric, an attitude that is common in real life and also a nasty pervasive under/overtone within some yuri, and shows this attitude is both harmful and wrong.
The anime shows adult wlw living together, in a healthy, lovely relationship, and it specifically shows a teenage lesbian looking at that and realizing she’s not alone. It shows adult wlw supporting and advising the younger generation, letting them know that they can be true to themselves. It’s such a rare treat and so important to seeing a piece of media portraying the solidarity and mentorship between younger and older wlw and it was so powerful to see that character start on her journey of self acceptance.

The queer coming-of-age story ties in well with the central theme of this anime, which is the instability and uncertainty of teenage identity and how that impacts relationships. These are kids who don’t understand themselves, scare themselves, hate themselves, and that stops them from being authentic and honest in their relationships. The theme is there from the very beginning with Yuu, who is uncertain and frustrated about her lack of romantic inclinations.
Yuu is almost definitely not meant to be asexual, at least not aro-ace, something I as an ace personally grokked from the start and was fine with. The show has it right in the title, Yuu is a “late bloomer” and part of her confusion almost certainly stems from repression. This is a valid and important narrative, and one I actually really relate to as a wlw asexual person.

Realizing I was a lesbian was especially difficult for me because I had like, no sexual drive, and it made me feel very alone. I see a lot of that in Yuu’s narrative, whether she’s meant to be homoromantic ace or not (probably not, but I’ll interpret her as one for as long as I can), her story really resonates me and it’s really cathartic and special to just see things like “it’s lonely when everything is centered around romance and sex but that’s something you don’t get, but that doesn’t mean anything’s wrong with you, just explore your feelings and see where they take you and that might be towards other girls” expressed in a narrative. I wonder if I would have realized I liked girls sooner watching this series. It’s very possible.

[WIP] Trying to get this done in time for Flame Con but ;___; idk we will see! Otherwise I will just put it online!
Hey y’all! Thanks so much to everyone who showed up to the signing at Gallery Nucleus (and sorry to those who couldn’t grab a ticket in time; they sold out SUPER fast!). I had oodles of fun meeting everyone, seeing familiar faces, and hanging out with Mike and Bryan (they are such good dudes).
Just to clear up some confusion I’ve been seeing: TURF WARS Part 3 comes out August 22nd for direct market (comic shops), and September 4th everywhere else (Amazon, bookstores, etc). The books that were available at Gallery Nucleus were a special limited early release, which is why you’ve been seeing screenshots everywhere. I’ve been really enjoying seeing everyone’s reactions, hehe. Don’t forget to tag your spoilers!
And further confirmation: This will be the last Korra book I am on, but there will be more (Mike will continue to write)! The library edition for TURF WARS is also happening, but I’m not sure of release date. TURF WARS consumed a year and half of my life, my blood, sweat, and tears, and it kicked my ass into shape. I am so grateful for having been given the opportunity to work on these books with the support and wisdom of the team, and it’s time for me to move on and do my original stories. To be frank, in large part it is simply because I was not paid enough to draw these comics for the amount of work it asked for, but… that’s the comics industry I s’pose. And I’m a storyteller at heart – I’ve got a ton of queer, magical, heart-wrenching, action-packed stories I want to get out of my system and share with y’all! Hope you enjoyed my run on the books, and I hope you continue to follow and support my work. <3

Just finished the Kara no Kyoukai / Garden of Sinners series. It was great, but now every time I watch a Kalafina live with one of the KnK ending themes, I can’t help but tear up. *sigh*
N.B. “Oblivious” on the 9+One live is just perfection
