I feel like my fixation on like ‘christian canon’ is very bizarre like. completely not religious, i jus

t like the intricacies of different stories or concepts within it- which leads to some conflicts between which kind of iteration of biblical storytelling i would place more precedence on? par example, listening to podcasts and videos on dante’s inferno/purgatorio/paradiso, has completely overwhelmed any kind of fascination with angelic hierarchy; and both of which somewhat contradict each other. instead of having separate layers of heaven- while paradiso is ‘separated’ into layers of blessings based on devotion to god, it is explicitly stated that it was simply a way for humans to better understand the tiers of blessings, and that it is not actually separated - as angel hierarchy has specific layers, paradiso makes ot like. the souls will all feel gods light, and that the very intense angels are not really involved, where hierarchy gives a specific barrier between god themself and humans traveling to heaven. i think i prefer how paradiso portrays heaven, as a kind of ethereal, galactic area, versus a very light, bright, holy area, where there are delegations of beings between humans and god or the holy trinity. it seems more comforting to think of heaven as simply a variety of blessings and souls, rather than some bright, vague area filled with holy creatures; paradiso really just involves the human experience of the approach to god. dante meets apostles and various souls, but there is not much angelic impressions, which helps to provide commentary on the human interpretation of christianity. i loved learning about angel hierarchy because it was removed from humanity, and created very holy imagery (good for art) in my mind - it was interesting to learn about supernatural and revered beings, and gave more context for biblical stories, like when an angel approached mary and said ‘be not afraid’, since it did not approach her as a messenger angel; it was one of the very ‘biblically accurate’ ones - biblically accurate being entirely based on what one would believe to be canon. i do think that learning about the human experience was more fascinating though.
