It’s gonna likely gonna be a while before I write. I just got terrible news that has me extremely upset. I just lost a family friend I knew since I was very very small. George was like a grandfather in some ways to me. I was always around his camp when I was up in the mountains when I was a child and into being a teenager. I always listened to the hunting stories he would tell.

I also helped to build another garage for him by hand with my parents, helped to build a larger porch as a kid just staying out of the way and trying to help as a kid would with grabbing the small things like screws for the tin roofing. I’m shaking so much right now after seeing the text I was given. He passed away last night at 8pm eastern time and I just can’t stop being upset right now.

Though my dad split from George through disagreements, he always would offer help when George really needed it. They were just starting to really repair things between them. My mom was the one to save him when he nearly died at the cabin last year from not taking care of himself. She gave him all this extra time thanks to finding him to be with his daughter and family I hope.

Needless to say, I’m trying to ride this out a bit. But if I seem off, please understand this.

            Lin’s well into the mountain of case files cluttering her desk, shoulders hunched as her gaze skims their contents intently, focus failing to extend past her work space. She’s just signed off on one of her detective’s reports when a voice startles her, but the officer is saved from her temper by Kya’s achingly familiar laugh freezing Lin on the spot. Spirits, this isn’t happening.

            The captain rounds on Kya instead, face a mask of irritation even while the circles beneath her eyes are hopelessly revealing. Out of all the people in this city, Tenzin’s sister is on the not so short list of those she’s been avoiding, and she certainly doesn’t want to deal with her now, in front of a room full of detectives she has to command. That’s just what her reputation needs.

            ❛❛ What in Agni’s name do you want? ❜❜        She grabs the waterbender’s wrist with a growl, dragging her towards the other end of the squad room before turning to her, a dangerous glare in her eyes. Kya is family, but the ache in her chest is too new, too raw, and she’d rather not be reminded of what she’s trying so hard to ignore. There’s no one left to notice if she works herself too hard, and it’s almost enough of a distraction. She just wants to be left alone.

Kya had heard about the incident from Tenzin's point of view and had stormed off from what remained of the island after water whipping his head hard on purpose. His stupidity knew no bounds and she was reminded of that factor the moment she knew he had hurt Lin so badly. While she had been away tending to things with her mother, somethings did not change with her.

She knew right where to find her friend and also knew which buttons to press upon to get a proper response from her. However, Kya had remained persistent in the last couple of days showing up to the station on purpose to be noticed. It appeared to work as Kya felt the iron grip of Lin at her wrist. She walked with her dragging motion and sighed softly.

"I do take hints and while you say one thing you show another, Lin. You forget I know how to read you rather well. However, I don't want to talk about that subject even in this spot. I'd rather it be somewhere else alone with you. I wanted to offer you a home cooked meal for tonight. You look like you could use it and some rest."

Kya kept her mouth shut about her idiot of a brother however. He was not important on her mind while Lin was. Lin always had been important to her as they were much like family but Kya always saw her as something more. The bender was far more to her but she never gave that portion of her emotions a voice and for good reason. It would have only added awkward feelings in the mix of an already emotionally charged situation.

"Please, just so you can let some of the work load settle?"

It took a weight off his shoulders to know that Kya wouldn’t be made at him if he decided to stay at the South Pole instead of in Republic City. It felt like it was when his children were young again, him having to be somewhere other than with them. He felt this was different though because he wanted to spend time with his wife. “Thank you Kya, you have no idea how relieving it is to hear you say that. Tenzin has Jinora to help him with the airbenders, plus Pema and all the air acolytes, I’m sure he’ll be fine. Bumi will be with Tenzin of course…I’m sure Lin could definitely use the company,” he smiled slyly at his daughter.  

Aang put his head in his palm thinking about how everything had changed for him. His gaze turned a blurry as he stared into space. He didn’t exactly know how to live a normal life. Since he was 12, his duty was always to be the Avatar, now that he had a chance to be normal he didn’t even know where to start. “You know…when I was frozen in the iceberg, I ran away because I didn’t want to be the Avatar, I didn’t want the responsibility. Now the spirits have given me what I always wanted: to be just a normal air nomad, a normal person.” Turning his head he focused on his daughter, “Now I am, and I have no idea what to even do with myself.” 

"She may end up busy with Suyin if her family stays for a while before returning to Zaofu but I'll see about that later. I don't want to be a bother to any of them when they are all starting to talk again." she uttered only to shrug her shoulders. It was no surprise to her that her dad would tease about such a thing. He would know that probably very easily as she knew her own mother knew of it after the talk she had with her.

"You are right about Tenzin. He has many people to help him and he now has his place to help others learn their craft. It's his turn to be the teacher as I used to be to many healers across the world. It's interesting to help him in the teachings. For a while I helped with the mediation portions and that helped until the Red Lotus Found us all. I'm sure we'll all figure out how to keep evolving though. There are quite a few bright minded airbenders who will likely become masters themselves in no time."

When her father spoke about the iceberg and his want to not be the avatar when he was shouldered with it, she listened and shook her head. "You have time to explore that avenue now and I know things are very different from when I was young and you were still here. You'll figure it out, dad."
