peeks my head in here after barely being active for the past 3 months

𝐈𝐓'𝐒  𝐀  𝐁𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑  𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑    to  all  that  couldn't  be  ,  even  if  they  both  seemingly  toed  the  line  of  wishing  there  could  be  more  to  whatever  it  was  they  were .  there  was  hardly  space  in  either  of  their  lives  for  the  array  of  complications  that  would  come  from  becoming  any  more  connected  ,  their  fondness  for  each  other  already  led  to  plenty  of  problems .  however  ,  even  despite  those  facts  being  burned  into  her  mind  by  her  own  hand  ,  ada  cannot  help  the  way  a  heaviness  grows  in  the  pit  of  his  stomach  as  leon  offers  forgetting  about  it. 

most  of  the  humor  drops  from  her  face  ,  but  the  ghost  of  a  smile  remains  as  she  makes  her  way  across  the  room  to  drop  next  to  him  on  the  couch .  her  gaze  remains  rooted  to  the  room  around  them  for  a  few  moments  before  she  glances  over  at  him .  what  a  mess  they  made  together .

❛  well  what  else  was  i  supposed  to  do  on  the  five  hour  flight  home  ,  ❜  she  jests  ,  though  it  remains  nothing  more  than  a  half  -  hearted  attempt  especially  as  ada  realizes  her  wording .  in  the  haze  of  all  the  years  they'd  been  doing  this  song  and  dance  she'd  wondered  when  she  had  determined  coming  back  to  him  meant  coming  home ?  she  so  rarely  considered  any  place  a  home  ,  not  even  the  numerous  safe  houses  she  meticulously  picked .

❛  you  know  that  if  you're  serious  about  all  of  that  ,  then  this  gets  increasingly  more  complicated  than  what  it  already  is  ,  correct ?  ❜  her  gaze  turns  back  to  the  apartment  in  front  of  her  ,  trying  to  find  anything  else  to  focus  on  rather  then  the  conversation  she  was  attempting  to  have .

Misfiring a gun and shooting a hole through his boot would be less embarrassing  &  harrowing than this.  Yet he brought it all upon himself by his very own wish.  In an inebriated haze,  but still.  His elbows leaned against his knees,  propping his anguished head up as it fell into open palms.  If he could just hide,  disappear,  and not be forced to deal with the sour truth of slippery actions carrying sordid consequences  (  having to hear his drunken words cascade from Ada’s lips,  for example  ).  Slumped and high-strung,  feeble shuddering fingers buried themselves in tousled dirty blonde strands and he let the silence sound.  At least one of them could get their kicks.  Once again,  she had him thoroughly speechless.  No witty retorts to sweep the plight under the rug.  He almost felt sorry for himself.

What was he expecting?  Her jumping into his arms?

“  I figured dropping on one knee with a diamond ring would be too old-fashioned for your refined taste,  ”  the agent maundered in chagrin;  what else was he supposed to do if not dip into cynicism?  There was hardly any point in coming up with dozens of doubtful explanations,  like saying he mistakenly sat down on his phone and the conglomeration of letters bizarrely forming a crestfallen romantic's confession was brought to life.  Leon would be an even worse liar if he said he wasn’t picturing her in his future.  As much as the bond tying them together was leaving flushed grazes,  they were nowhere near traditional to share such mundane hopes.

“  We can forget about it.  ”  I insist,  he wanted to add when enervated eyes finally darted at her.  “  Unless you’ve already started looking for a dress.  ”

𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐆𝐋𝐈𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑  𝐎𝐅  𝐀𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓  𝐈𝐒    beyond  clear  in  her  eyes  as  a  brow  raises  in  mock  challenge at his rebuffing of her claim .  despite  being  quite  adept  at  reading  body  language  ,  it  was  hardly  needed  to  see  just  how  much  he  bristled  at  the  mention  of  the  texts  ⎯  denial  was  definitely  an  interesting  reaction .

❛  hm  ,  is  that  so  ?  perhaps  i  could  jog  your  memory  then  ,  ❜  she  hums  ,  gloved  hand  sliding  her  current  phone  off  the  kitchen  counter  next  to  her .  it  takes  only  unlocking  it  to  find  the  messages  again  ,  because  no  matter  if  he  prodded  ada  would  never  admit  that  she'd  spent  longer  than  necessary  trying  to  decipher  her  feelings  around  the  drunkenly  sent  words .  there  was  no  denying  that  they'd  grown  closer  over  the  years  ,  specifically  since  the  events  in  spain .  they  had  gone  far  beyond  that  which  was  ,  arguably  ,  the  acceptable  boundary  of  what  their  interactions  should've  been  given  their  respective  professions .

not  that  either  of  them  would  openly  mention  it .

❛  in  your  own  words  ,  you're  going  to  "wife  me  up  one  day"  ,  ❜  pausing  her  unneeded  rereading  of  words  that  had  lingered  in  her  mind  since  she'd  received  them  ,  ada  gave  a  small  huff  of  laughter .  she  drops  her  phone  back  to  the  counter  ,  head  tilting  in  his  direction  as  her  gaze  aims  to  meet  his  own .

Out of the few things he excelled at in quite an exceptional way was embarrassing himself.  Yesterday was a blur,  like many yesterdays.  All he could dig up in his muddled mind was arguing with his…  roommate after coming back staggering and talking nonsense.  Later he somehow made it to his old place without busting his head open on the curb;  that mancave of a flat he kept around for the sake of having some safehouse.  A couple of trusted people were aware of this address,  but Ada was probably the only one to pay him visits there.  Rarely was it a good sign whenever he would return to his fogged senses,  the battered couch doing his back no favours  &  a pair of piercing brown eyes greeting him before the sunshine got the chance to.

“  You know,  a good morning would be nice,  ”  he grumbled as he struggled to pick himself up to sit upright,  not yet processing what she had just said to him.  It took a while more.  A long while.  Bewildered frown contorting his pale face morphing into worry he attempted to shake off before she could catch on that he indeed was remembering something.  Too late to play an idiot,  wasn’t it?

“  In your dreams,  Ada.  ”  Defensively folding arms in front of his chest,  the agent visibly shrunk in his seat when he slumped,  wishing to disappear completely.  He stared down at his boots stranded in the middle of the room and tried to wriggle out of the escalating predicament,  as futile as it seemed,  “  I have no idea what you’re on about.  ”

absolutely not. a lot of fanon i see sits on one of two extremes , either she's extrememly manipulative & just downright a monster to anyone who crosses her path ( and again she definitely has her moments but there is so much more to her than that ) or she's just turned into another 'uwu soft girl' / only viewed in the scope of whatever ship dynamic she's put into and neither are the vibe i go for nor like when it comes to her muse.

✦ has your own interpretation changed from when you first began playing the character?

a bit , yeah. in the beginning , because i've never written ada before , i was definitely still trying to find her voice & having her interact with other muses / plotting has absoluteely helped flesh out her muse more , how she reacts to certain things , her mental process when it comes to her job , etc. overall i'm very happy with where i've gotten her as a muse , especially compared to how i wrote her in the beginning.

hm , i wouldn't say there is anything i dislike persay about how she's portrayed in canon. the only issue i tend to have is how just inconsitant the way her character is written can tend to be between different source materials ( games , books , etc. ). and i don't mean it in the way of , 'of course she's a spy nothing is gonna line up' , but even the way her character seemingly views or feels about things seem fairly estranged from material to material. the one upside to that though is being able to sorta find a nice middle point between what i'm given.

i'm not sure if it's unpopular but i definitely do not subscribe to the idea that ada is just a heartless mercenary / spy. i definitely think she has her moments where she's fairly apathetic , especially when it comes to her job , but i don't think that means that certain situations / events don't effect her at all even if she seems to not care in the moment.

𝐁𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐄𝐃  𝐉𝐎𝐁𝐒  𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇  𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐒    was  hardly  something  ada  would  consider  a  desired  experience  ,  her  own  personal  preference  to  be  alone  on  jobs  was  one  that'd  been  forged  over  years  of  dealing  with  the  ineptness  of  others .  however  ,  even  knowing  that  the  man  which  she  was  currently  assigned  to  the  job  at  hand  alongside  was  competent  did  little  to  easy  the  lingering  irritation  that  thrummed  just  belong  the  surface  of  her  skin .  though  that  was  no  real  mystery  as  to  why  that  was  ,  it  was  wesker  she  was  assigned  to  work  with  after  all .

the  enigmatic  man  was  notorious  ,  both  in  their  own  organization  and  outside  of  it  ,  his  often  abrasive  personality  something  she  was  exceedingly  familiar  with .  he  was  seemingly  a  constant  in  her  life  ,  she  found  herself  unable  to  truly  be  able  to  shake  him  off  even  when  her  assignment  had  nothing  to  do  with  him .  it  was  rare  that  jobs  needed  them  both  involved  personally  ,  though  the  amount  of  trouble  they'd  ran  into  so  far  had  made  her  a  little  grateful  she  wasn't  completely  alone .

still  ,  that  didn't  halt  him  from  being  a  constant  source  of  vexation  ⎯  especially  now  as  the  blood  of  the  poor  soul  that'd  been  their  target  stained  the  floors .

❛  tasteful  as  always , wesker .  ❜  it's  a  small  gesture  but  ada  takes  a  graceful  step  from  the  growing  stain  flowing  from  the  man  on  the  floor  ,  partially  to  avoid  tracking  any  blood  when  they  left  the  area  but  also  to  spare  herself  of  having  to  scrub  dried  blood  off  of  the  rather  expensive  heels  later  on .  her  pointed  gaze  that'd  been  trained  on  wesker  sliding  towards  the  exit  before  returning  back  to  him  with  an  unimpressed  raise  of  her  brow .

❛  if  you're  done  now  ,  i  think  it's  time  we  take  our  leave  before  someone  notices  his  absence .  ❜  a  head  nod  towards  the  crumpled  body  on  the  floor  the  mercenary  gave  a  small  roll  of  her  eyes .
