The second piece I contributed to the @mcyt-couture-zine , this one in collaboration with the incredible @earlrot ! I did the lines, he did the gorgeous colors/rendering, and we both brainstormed together on the outfit design. It was super super fun to collaborate with Earlrot on this artwork (everybody go compliment him rn!!!) and I absolutely adore how it came out :D

really is bizarre the way fandoms largely do not like women at ALL. it’s been happening for ages but when you see people straight up just hating on women characters more often now (+ the general rise in misogyny) and then you come on here and everyone’s just pretending women don’t even EXIST in any media ever. it’s like that’s not much better. fandom isn’t activism but it does reveal people’s internal biases. like women being excluded, sidelined and erased in everythingggg. people will take characteristics that are compelling in a female character and give it to a man in fan content just so they don’t have to engage with a woman ever. fics, fan art, ships, etc. a hollywood produced movie/tv show won’t even sideline a woman as much as the average fandom blogger will

Ice cold takes from a Transgender Woman:
Men are not inherently Evil
Everyone has the capacity for evil
Transgender Men are men
Transgender Women are women
Excluding Cisgender Men from your spaces requires Transgender Men to out themselves if they want to engage (Same for Women)
Anyone can be Non-Binary, there is no "look" or requirement
Non-binary masculine presenting people should be welcome in queer spaces, many are just treated as men and predators
Non-binary feminine presenting people should be welcome in queer spaces without being seen as "Woman-Lite"
Edited the wording on the first point because too many terfs keep thinking I'm their friend.

people love to find progressive ways to say we should all be arranged into separate groups and try our hardest to not relate to one another

A couple of years ago we were all terribly concerned about the fact that a lot of American high schools are assigning such crushing homework loads that some kids literally don't have enough time to eat or sleep (and all this in spite of the fact that there's no good evidence that assigning homework actually improves academic outcomes at the pre-university level), but now we're hearing stories about those same schools struggling to stop kids from using ChatGPT to write their essays and suddenly It's The Children Who Are Wrong. Like, do you think maybe there's a certain level of cause and effect in play here?

When all is said and done, I really don't know how it's possible to defend a woman saying to a man "I'm a distraction to you, I need to get out of your way so you can fulfill your great destiny" and then completely leaving the narrative as being anything but a misogynistic writing choice.

learning to cheerfully dislike other people is I think a critical component of getting along with people who don't like you. Like as soon as I got a solid grasp on the fact that there is a wide swath of humanity that gets on my nerves and that it's my problem, not theirs, it got easier to be around people I find annoying. Once that's settled, it's easy to flip the reasoning around and conclude that if someone doesn't like me, that's a quirk of their own strange and arbitrary tastes, not a judgment upon either of us as a person. You can't like everyone. Not everyone will like you. It's fine. It's not a personal attack in either direction. We can exchange cordial nods across the room and then go on with our lives

anyway shout out once again to love me normally by will wood for being one of the few pieces of art I've encountered that takes that feeling seriously.
I've always felt that whenever I say I wish I could be "normal," people rush to jump down my throat with the same adages- that "normal is boring," "there's no such thing as normal," whatever. and that's typically the moral pushed in anything that deals with the idea of feeling abnormal. which is usually well-intentioned, but when you go days of your life desperately wanting to know and understand normality, it just feels isolating. I always hated being told "just be yourself" for a slew of reasons, but mainly because it just... sort of does nothing.
which is why I love the song so much. it really sits with that dysphoric feeling (in a general sense), gives a voice to it, and lets you just feel without being told to just get over all that pain and shame. there's nothing about how your abnormality is actually a "superpower," nothing about how "normal is just a setting on the dryer," nothing about "everyone is a little quirky in their own way" (and even if they are, at least they're better at hiding it than I am, goddammit!). it allows you to process those emotions instead of instantly shutting them down. like, yeah. sometimes it does suck to feel you aren't normal. sometimes, you do want normalcy, even if you know it's just a "majority concept" you as an individual have no control over, as richard matheson put it. I think it's so, so important to be honest and recognize when that awful feeling is there- and this song has done that for me in a way that nothing else really has.

Stop just asking "is it normal?" and start asking "is it harming anyone?" Lots of harmful things are normalized in this society and lots of things considered weird or rare are completely harmless. Whether something is considered normal or common shouldn't be the deciding factor in whether it's okay
