characters apologizing for things they have no control over. mumbling sorry while losing consciousness. feeling ashamed of a bleeding wound. embarrassed when an infection sets in. deep seated feverish guilt when they need to be carried, when their legs won't keep them upright anymore and they lean heavy on a friend, slurring apologies..........

honestly that post was only really supposed to be a silly observation on cultural norms around ages and the Death Of Whimsy, but now that someone actually tried to engage with that one on a deeper level, it does get me thinking about like. as you age out of teenhood, your progress through time stops being celebrated and starts to be treated as the norm, you decelerate massively in your development, both in terms of changes to your physical form and in terms of legal matters. you go from the fast pace of things changing quicker than you can process to a state of sameness. you are now a full adult. your social standing in regards to age will adjust slightly within the next three to five years and then come to a standstill until you either reach your sixties or become disabled, whichever happens first. and that's incredibly jarring. and a wild thing to be experiencing tbh. but it also teaches us to settle, makes us reevaluate how we percieve age and time, and more importantly how we view ourselves. our self is no longer a thing that happens to us as our social groups morph and shift and trends come and go and hormones suddenly take over, it's now something that you are in full charge of. and it's up to you to make something of it.
however i still think the death of whimsy is sad and we need more special birthdays after teenhood is over. like 27. that's a good one

listen man i think it's great that you can philosophise like that. and it's not that i disagree, i don't, but you did just come onto my very personal and very lighthearted post to "correct" me about a point i never made. and we do not know each other in the slightest. basic internet rule, don't talk to strangers like they're your friends
22 is such a sad age to hit bc it's the first of many unremarkable ones. in the whole span of 12 to 21 every age except for 14 and 19 are somehow an Age. 12 is the age you can watch most exciting movies (in germany), 13 you officially become A Teen, 15 is nice and round, 16 you are allowed to purchase and drink beer (in germany), 17 you are the dancing queen, 18 you're a major, 20 nice and round again, 21 you are officially a full adult by law. and then you hit 22. and you realize, these coming decades are going to be full of unremarkable ages. and you have to make your piece with that

doesn't have to be a definitive or strongly held opinion, just which option seems preferable currently. also sorry for neglecting the people already married lol in that case obviously just pick what you did!

i keep thinking about. ok so in abstinence camp, in the second verse of virginity rocks girl jeri sings about taylor, a person using they/them pronouns, right? but throughout the entire episode, the campers are all made to wear blue and pink camp tshirts. seperated by boy and girl. it's even pointed out explicitly by steph as a silly thing to do. not to mention the whole bathroom situation. and it really stuck with me bc that's so wonderfully exemplary of the kind of performative inclusivity that only makes the actual real exclusivity sting so much worse. i keep coming back to this in my mind all the time. i haven't even watched abstinence camp in a good while but i just can't help myself. it's so. real. fuck
