So I finally read The Good Doctor by Juno Dawson (in two sittings because I enjoyed it so much) and 1) I’m so happy a trans author has written a DW novel that’s so amazing??? and 2) she’s an author of LGBTQ+ content and it shows because you end up with lines like this which are fucking glorious and now BBC Doctor Who canon (mild spoilers for this book!):

‘She did it!’ Ryan exclaimed. ‘The Doctor actually did it! I don’t believe it!’ ‘I do,’ Yaz grinned. ‘Man, she’s good.’

‘Yaz is smart and capable and has a lovely singing voice. Two of those are more important than the other at present, but worth mentioning nonetheless.’ - The Doctor, casually saying how lovely Yaz’s singing voice is in the middle of trouble because it’s worth it skjhgs OKAY also does Yaz just sing around the TARDIS? Does Thirteen catch her softly singing lyrics under her breath? WHEN HAS SHE HEARD HER SING I WANT ANSWERS JUNO

The Doctor pulled Yaz into a hug. ‘Hello.’ ‘Hey,’ Yaz said sadly. She inhaled the Doctor’s smell, although every time they hugged, her friend smelled different: sometimes like solder or engine oil, sometimes like peppermint and beeswax and Earl Grey tea. So Yaz just casually takes notice of all the different things Thirteen smells of whenever they hug, cool cool cool

‘Oh Yasmin, you are as kind of heart as you are tiny of hand.’ - The Doctor, and I don’t even have an explanation why she has to mention Yaz’s small hands??? And Yaz’s reaction is to laugh nervously and be like “thanks I think?” LMAO

Yasmin sat right next to [the Doctor], their thighs pressed together. Yep their lack of personal space and always touching and being close is also very present in this book

The Doctor took [Yaz’s] hand and helped her over some boulders.  Yaz has an injured leg at this point and is worse for wear, but the Doctor later sends her back into some mines on her own fully trusting that Yaz can not only make her way through by herself but can also achieve something whilst in there which I won’t spoil but yeah sure you hold her hand over the rocks Doctor 

‘Jaya? How are you?’ ‘I’m fine.’ ‘You’re better than fine, you’re perfect.’ The Doctor cupped her pretty cheeks in her hands. Both the Doctor and Yaz are not shy of noticing the beauty of many of the female characters in this book, let it be known. Yaz describes one character named Mariya as ‘lovely’ at one point so

‘Come here, you,’ the Doctor said and gave Yaz a big hug. ‘You did it! Knew you would.’ When I said she sent Yaz off? She did what she was tasked and yeah we love supportive girlfriends who hug at every chance and have faith in each other!!!

There’s also a point where something happens and the Doctor describes Yaz as being her best friend and you can bet I got emotional lmao ANYWAY READ THIS BOOK IT’S GOT A REALLY INTERESTING PLOT AND RYAN AND GRAHAM ARE ALSO FANTASTIC IN IT and you’ll love so many of the characters!!! I honestly wish it could be an actual episode tbh

Look, I know there are about 100 gifs of this scene already, but I just want to talk about how there is absolutely no hetero explanation for Yaz helping the Doctor up here.

Firstly, it’s not like the Doctor fell over. She knelt down to inspect Lin.

But then Yaz comes along once she’s done and pulls her up? And lets her hand linger? Like, why? I know the Doctor’s old, but she’s more than capable to stand up by herself.

Literally like 8 seconds later after Thasmin stops being gay, the Doctor KNEELS DOWN AGAIN. LIKE WHY DID YAZ EVEN HELP HER UP IN THE FIRST PLACE? UNLESS IT WAS JUST AN EXCUSE TO TOUCH HER???

And then, ladies and gentlemen, the Doctor proceeds to stand up without help from Yaz, meaning she is 110% capable of using her legs properly and doesn’t actually forget leg day at the gym. 

The only way that this scene makes any sense at all is if they were trying to do a parallel of Mitch/Lin, who, if you remember, shared a New Year’s Eve kiss:
