Giving Orders
Warnings: Angst, Fighting…A little bit of fluff…But like, only a little.
Word Count: 1.1K
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
A/N: Enjoy! Oh! And I love feedback!
The moment the quinjet finally came to a halt, you slowly pushed yourself out of your seat and began to hobble towards the door that was slowly becoming a ramp.Â
“Sweethe-” Began your blue eyed, blonde haired, husband, but the quick snap of your head and your narrowed eyes stopped the rest of what he was going to say.Â
“I don’t want to hear it.” You said sharply, as you continued on towards the exit. Behind you, you could hear a low whistle from Clint and a small snort from Tony.Â

You walked into the hangar of the compound trying to ignore the throbbing pain that was radiating from your hip. All you wanted was a nice hot bath and to sleep forever, so instead of heading to the medical wing as you should have, you headed towards your apartment.
“Where are you going?” Steve demanded of you.Â
“Home.” Was your quick response. He was walking behind you, so close that you could feel the heat radiating off of him. You were trying to walk faster, despite your injury and the knowledge of just how fast your husband was.
“No.” He said simply and you stopped walking. It was so abrupt that Steve softly bumped into your back. You turned around, brows raised.
“Excuse me?”
“You need to get your wound seen about.” His eyes fell from yours, to the gauze that covered a large gash sitting right above your thigh.Â
“You don’t give me orders.” With those words you turned back around. The pace you walked at was quicker this time as you ground your teeth and pushed through the pain. You needed space. You needed to be alone. You needed to be away from Steve before you said something you would regret. If anyone was going to have a brain in this situation, it was going to be you.
“Is that what this is about?” The sweet, concerned tone of his voice from when you first exited the quinjet was gone. Instead, his tone was hard as steel. “Giving you orders?”
“Get her back to the jet!” He yelled at Clint while throwing his weight behind his shield, taking out a Hydra agent.Â
“No!” You yelled, pressing on your slashed skin, thinking that by doing that you would magically heal yourself. “I’m fine!” There was no way you would leave Steve’s side. You might have been a part of a team, but you were partners. In life, but also in the field. Long before there were romantic feelings of any type, you and Steve developed chemistry. The way you moved around each other was fluid and graceful. It looked more like dancing and less like fighting.
“No.” Steve ordered. “Clint is going to take you back to the jet and you will stay there.” You could here Natasha over comms warning you all about more agents headed your way. “That is an order Rogers.”
“You don’t order me around like that.”Â
“I do. I am your superior. Get back to the jet right now.” You knew he was getting angrier. His tone was getting colder and you could see the dangerous glint in his baby blues.
“Or what?” Left your mouth before you could stop it.Â
“Consider yourself demoted, Agent.” Before you could retaliate Steve turned around, jogging through the door, to meet the Hydra agents head on. Clint tightly grabbed onto your arm and began to pull you in the opposite direction.
“It’s about you humiliating me in front of the team, Steve!” Thankfully, you were now close your home and could have this conversation away from curious ears. “It’s about you pulling rank when all I was doing was trying to help you! I am your wife, not your subordinate!”
“I was doing what was best for you!” You opened the door to your apartment, heading straight for the master bathroom.
“Really? Because I couldn’t tell that at all. It sounded like you were on some sort of power trip, to me!” You couldn’t feel the pain from your wound anymore. All you could feel was anger and frustration.Â
“You were hurt and bleeding! Did you think it was really a smart idea for you to keep going?” He persisted.
“Oh, so now you’re going to insult my intelligence?”Â
“That is not how I meant that!”Â
“Then tell you what you meant Steven!” You pulled the zipper on the front of your suit down, taking your arms out of it, letting the top hang at your waist. “Because I’m clearly not understanding what you mean today. All I wanted to do was fight with you, Steve. To help you fight against Hydra!”
“That’s why you had to leave!” He yelled in frustration, throwing his hands above his head. He pinched his nose before resting both hands on his hips. “It’s because I didn’t want any of that scum hurting you more than than they already had. You are my wife! Hydra is my oldest enemy. I couldn’t let you go any farther.” His angry tone gave way to fear. You were beginning to understand now. Hydra took a lot from Steve. It took Bucky from him and turned him into a killer. It took a life and a future away from him, leaving him to freeze in the ocean for seventy years. It took an organization he was ever so slowly beginning to trust and drowned it in the Potomac
“I’m your wife.” This time you responded softly. “I am your partner. In life, in love, and on the battlefield. That will never change, Steven.” You moved towards him, reaching up to place your hand on his cheek. There was a small cut sitting on his cheekbone that you ran your thumb under. “You don’t get to pick and choose when I am your partner and when I’m not...And you certainly don’t let your fear cause you pull rank.”
“I-” He started, but you didn’t let him finish.
“Steve, that’s what happened. I would have been fine to continue and if I needed to back out, I could have made that decision myself. I know my limits.”
“I shouldn’t have done that.” He looked at the white tile of the bathroom floor.Â
“No. You shouldn’t have. You threatened my job and humiliated in front of our teammates because of fear. That’s not okay. I understand that being on a mission means making and taking orders sometimes. I get it,” You sighed, taking his left hand and rubbing the skin where his wedding ring sat when he wasn’t on missions.”but that was not the time or the place.”
“You’re right. Sweetheart, I’m sorry.” You could see it in his eyes. He was sorry. His cheeks were tinged a light pink and you knew he was embarrassed he let his emotions get the best of him. “Forgive me?”
“Maybe…” There was a small smirk on your face. “First you should help me clean up and replace this gauze. After that, I’ll consider it.”
“Yes, ma’am” He responded, a boyish grin replacing his frown.

Counting Sheep
Warnings: None...Unless you count sleepy fluff a warning!
Honestly, he wasn’t sure how he got so lucky. You were lying on your stomach, clutching his pillow tightly. There was a small, content smile on your face. Steve wondered, from his spot on the small couch in your bedroom, what it was that you were dreaming about. Was it him? He hoped. The thought alone made him smile too, as he looked down at the little notebook he was balancing on his knees. On the page in front of him was a messy sketch of you in that moment. Steve hadn’t seen you look this at peace in a few months and he knew he had to capture the small slice of calm the only way he really knew how.
The team had been out on a mission for a little over a month. What was supposed to be a few days of tracking down and capturing an unnecessary evil, turned into five weeks of frustrating, high stress, injury filled situations happening back to back to back as one roadblock or another presented itself. You were particularly frustrated because this evil hit too close to home. A mad scientist testing on young children he referred to as subjects. It was a life, unfortunately, you were all too familiar with. Steve tried to be of some comfort to you. Tried to keep you calm in moments where all you wanted was to shoot bullet after bullet into the man's head. Tried to get you to close your eyes and rest instead of running yourself haggard, looking for this man that kept disappearing. But now? Now you were resting away and Steve couldn’t be happier about it.Â
“Steve” You murmured, softly. Steve looked up to see you sleepily blinking, a little frown now replacing your smile. He put the notebook and charcoal pencil he was using down.
“What’s wrong, Sweetheart?”Â
“Come back to bed. It’s cold.” Steve smiled, glad your frown was for nothing more than the temperature.” You opened your eyes a little wider, craning your neck to look at something. The clock, Steve concluded. It was on the end table on his side of the bed. The small hand was sitting between the five and six. “And it’s early.” This time your tone was a little grumpier and Steve tried to hide a laugh.
“Sorry, Sweetheart.” He closed the notebook, turned off the im lamp beside him, and began walking towards you. The thoughts of a man with a red skull and cold, cold waters, from a time long ago, entered Steve’s mind briefly as he thought of the reason he was up before the sun. “I couldn’t sleep.”
“Maybe you weren’t trying hard enough.” You pulled the blanket up and waited for your husband to slide under. “Did you try counting sheep?”
“No, I don’t think I did.” He chucked, wrapping his arms around you. He loved you all the time, but there was just something about your early morning ramblings that he adored. You were all soft and sleepy and unaware.Â
“Well, maybe you should give it a try.” Steve pulled you tight against him, kissing your forehead. “So warm.”Â
“Go back to sleep, darling.” He commanded, gently. “I’ll start counting those sheep for you.”
