... I did not mean to take nearly two months on this thing, I'm so sorry. This is not my best work. I haven't drawn enough of Jay and Kai, so they look almost out of place next to Zane and Cole lmao Besides the fact that I didn't draw Kai's bottom half and Jay's pose will need somd fixing.

I'm thinking they're playing Chutes and Ladders. It's mostly based on luck and not strategy, so Zane winning in a game he doesn't understand the appeal to would be kinda funny, I think. Kai is getting frustrated, being in second place, but every time he gets close to Zane, he gets sent down the same chute, never making any progress because of it. But then he notices that Jay - who is in last place - is going to flip the table; he's stuck in the first row of the game, unable to continue because of a chute or two on the second row and incapable of rolling to get to a ladder. Cole is in third place and is enjoying the chaos and the mess that Jay will soon have to pick up.

Hope you like it! This isn't a very romantic piece, but I do think that their game nights always end up like this, no matter if they're in a relationship or not lol This piece will be lined at a later date.

I've actually been thinking about this more since Pride Month rolled around. I've also just been wanting to have something more solid for these guys, but as you will see, that isn't possible for me lol

Cole: gay, demiromantic/sexual

Geo: gay (?) (he'll figure it out one day... maybe...)

Zane: asexual (he doesn't mind doing the do, but he usually likes pleasing more than being pleased himself, y'know?)

Kai: pansexual, demiromantic

Lloyd: aroace

Skylor: lesbian

Pixal: unlabeled

I haven't thought far enough about Jay or Nya, but they're definitely either bi or pan (not sure yet). Nor have I thought about the new guys enough, so Sora, Arin, Wyldfyre, or Frak. (I know Skylor, Pixal, and Geo aren't ninja, but I included them anyway.)

I don't mess with their genders. I can't get a solid grasp on them. I kinda just absorb everyone else's headcanons for them every time I see fanart or read a fanfic, so they keep changing lol Any one of them could be trans, nonbinary, demigender, etc. at a moment's notice.

Hello, welcome to the Masters of Zinejitsu - Elements of Sentiments FAQ! We appreciate you checking here before sending an ask to our mod team. As the zine gets fully set up some links might be missing for the first few days, we appreciate your patience! We will also be editing it to add new information as it comes up. Strap in guys this is a long one.

What are Masters of Zinejitsu?

We are a collection of Ninjago fans who kinda just decided we wanted to make a zine one day. After a bit of stumbling around and a lot of brainstorming we eventually came up with the idea for Elements of Sentiments (as well as a couple other zines, stay tuned for those). Through a lot of trial and error we’ve been working hard the past couple months to get the ball rolling on this. We are very excited to finally see it come to fruition! Masters of Zinejistsu currently has 8 mods, with varying levels of experience, that handle various parts of the Zine. 

Who are the mods of the zine?

This section will provide a brief summary of our team, and will also link their mod intros as they are posted! While this is a numbered list these are of course in no particular order.

What is the topic + theme of the zine?

Elements of Sentiments is a shipping zine! So if you’re not a shipper, we’re not quite sure why you’re here lol. Each artist/writer pairing will be assigned a ship and a theme based on their preferences. As far as themes go, we have four of them:

 Angst - The ship going through a sort of emotional turmoil, whether caused by the people in the ship, or by an outside source. (Ex. Jay mourning Nya being lost to the sea).

Jealousy- One character in the ship being jealous of someone/something else. (Ex. Jay being jealous over Cole and Nya. Or Nya being jealous of an overzealous fan seeking Jay’s attention)

Comfort - The ship in question being or putting each other at ease. This could be doing an activity, physical affection, and more. (Ex. Cole and Geo making art together).

Crush - The ship pining for each other or seeking love. This can show love in ways like a first kiss, a date, asking out, and more. (Ex. Zane allowing Pixal to scan him).

Physical or E-Zine?

This is an E-Zine designed with printing from home in mind. We currently do not have the resources to print and ship out zines ourselves, however we know people like having physical copies of things. The zine will be formatted to allow for personal printing. We will provide a PDF of the zine for your convenience.

Does the zine include other items like merch?

Unfortunately no as we currently lack the resources to do this. This may change for future zines

Charity, for profit, or free zine?

This zine is 100% free!

Any specific requirements your applicants should meet?

We do have specific qualifications we’re looking for, we’ll break them down here by role.

Artist - We’re looking for artists who have experience rendering full pieces and who can do so in a timely manner.

Writers - Similar to artists we are looking for writers who have a clear grasp on prose and who can write in a timely manner.

Spot artists - Similar to artists, rendering smaller pieces throughout the zine to be used as page filler. The amount of work you’ll be doing is much less than our main artists.

Beta readers - As it’s hard to check for experience this one is mostly based on the honor system. We do prefer if you have a solid grasp on English as that is the language the zine will be published in.

Where is the zine hosted?

The Masters of Zinejitsu discord server as well as our personal website (which is still under construction) and this tumblr. The discord server is for contributors only, but non-contributors can stay updated via this tumblr and the website.

What is and is not allowed in the zine?

First and foremost we are not allowing any ships containing incest, or bestiality, and no minor/adult ships, commonly all referred to as proshipping. If a ship is commonly considered as a proship, it is not allowed. We are also not allowing OC ships or self-ships (however these are potential topics for future zines). Content wise we will also not be allowing explicit sexual content or extreme violence/gore. Keep it PG-13.

Ships we are accepting are Ninja X Ninja/Ninja Adjacent Character. We are counting character’s like Wu & Garmadon, the previous elemental masters, Morro, and of course the Dragons Rising kids as ninja. The ninja adjacent character must be relevant for at least one of the episodes they are in. An example of a ship we are accepting is Lloyd/Brad, as Lloyd is a ninja and Brad is relevant in at least one episode he’s in (sorry Darkley’s kids enjoyers we know y’all are starving for content). An example of a ship we are not accepting is Benthomaar/Blazey as neither of them are ninja. However Benthomaar can be used if shipped with a ninja.

Content wise we are trying to keep this zine as canon compliant as possible. Pairs are encouraged to make content that can easily slot over canon. We are allowing AU’s in the case of characters who have never met (such as Morro/Echo) or have not interacted in a long time (such as Garmadon/Clouse), or ya know just in the case that most of these pairings aren’t canon. However these AU’s must be as canon compliant as possible. For example, Morro/Echo cannot be in medieval times. Things like kissing, hand holding, cuddling etc are allowed. As is mild violence or blood, but again everything is to stay PG-13. 

We are also not allowing pieces to be about any content from Season 3 Part 2 or Monstrosity to avoid spoilers.

Don’t be afraid to ask a mod for clarification if you are unsure if a ship or pitch idea counts!

How many contributors do you plan to accept?

Well since we wanted 5 ships per theme, and we have 4 themes, meaning 20 ships, and then we have 2 people per ship, well thats *checks notes* 40 people. Wowzers! Yes we are aware this is a very large number of people (this is one of the reasons our mod team is so big). Contributors will be sectioned off into groups of 10 under each theme, with each group being directly managed by one of our mods (Captain for Crush, Leo for Comfort, Jal for Jealousy, and Cable for Angst).

When will applicants know if they’ve been accepted?

Applicants should know by around August 5th, as is stated by our schedule. This process is going to take us quite a bit as we have to sort through and assign 40 people a ship and a theme (and in some cases a creative partner). Our goal is to have it done as quickly as we can while being thorough. Applicants can expect an acceptance/rejection letter through their discord/email when the time comes.

What are the zine’s specs?

As is standard for zine’s we are making it 8.5’’X11’’. Art will be getting a full page (2,550×3,300 pixels), and then will be followed by the 1K word ficlet it’s paired with. We will also be making an A5 version to make printing easier for those outside of the US.

Where can you apply?

You can apply here through our google form(which will be posted June 21st! For the sake of convenience/organization we ask that applicants are willing to provide an email and their discord username. When acceptance letters go out a link to our discord server will also be provided. You should also prepare your example pieces, a list of your top 5 ships (or at least ships that you would be willing to create content for), and which theme you would like to do the most ahead of time. This is to make the application process easier for everyone.

Who is your favorite new generation ninja? :3

⚠️ Minor spoilers for DR S3P1 ⚠️

My first instinct was to say Arin, as I think he has a lot of potential, and the writers are using as much of that potential as they can. It's interesting how he taught himself a form of spinjitzu, and then Lloyd - being a little dumb - focused so much on that that Arin felt like that was all he was good for. Then, even when he leaves the ninja and joins Ras, he still holds onto his personality and doesn't allow Ras to break him completely. (Like, yeah, he fell for Ras' trick, but his whole story has been about his parents. Of course, he's gonna be upset when the idea of them both being dead is forced into his reality.)

But THEN I remembered Wyldfyre. She's very unabashedly herself, even when her attitude wasn't particularly welcomed in the team. She and Kai play off of each other very well, being that they act very similarly. She's aggressive, she's very self-motivated, she assures herself that she's the best and her ideas are the best, and she even got a boyfriend. I think the little "rawrs" between her and Roby are a little cringe, but like... she wouldn't care. She doesn't care what others think. She's a great character! If she and Sensei Wu ever met, I think she'd argue against every word he says, and I think that would be really funny.

I like Frak, too, but - on his own - I'm not sure if he's a good character on his own just yet. I like how he interacts with the ninja, especially Sora, but I don't know a lot about him just yet to say if he's my favorite.

But yeah. It's between Arin and Wyldfyre, I think. Thank you for the question! :]

I've had this request done for like a week, but I forgot to post it, lol

I think that Cole taught Geo how to dance during their time in the Land of Lost Things. It took a while for Geo to learn, as he basically had no prior experience with dancing and has two left feet. He's still a little clumsy and super self-conscious about it, but Cole thinks he's improved so much, and that's all that matters. Lou hears about this at some point and insists that the two dance for him. Cole's a little annoyed by that and tells Geo that he doesn't have to, but Geo wants to try. Plus, it shows that he's interested in Lou's life, so that might give him bonus son-in-law points (not that he needs them - Lou thinks he's quite the gentleman and can easily tell that he makes Cole happy). While they dance, Geo can't help but stare at their feet, trying to visualize what his next step is and trying not to crush Cole's toes. Cole thinks he's absolutely adorable, and - even if they mess up a bit - Lou's not gonna scare off Cole's partner. Plus, he's certainly seen worse from overconfident, seasoned showmen.
