it’s been so long and i still can’t get over the fact how amazing and touching right where you left me is. it’s a kind of masterpiece taylor has never done before. she’s always written about so many things and feelings but never fully about being stuck in the past. there were a few mentions about it in her previous songs but it never was a main topic. it’s not “i’m so devastated and sad but it’s normal after ending a relationship” or “i’m sad but better times are coming” types of songs. it’s about a feeling that is stuck with you and in you. it’s not only knowing you are devastated but also knowing you can’t and won’t move on. it’s millions times worse. you know what’s going on around you - friends break up or get married, stranges get born or buried, people move on or stick to each other, in general the world changes all the time. and you see it, you live but you aren’t present. you don’t feel things. the only thing you feel and remember too well is the moment that broke your heart. it’s literally like you’re frozen in time. the sad part is you are genuinely trying to move on, you are telling yourself that this is how the world works, break ups happen every day and you don’t have to lose it... but then you remember that moment again. and you know you aren’t able to escape from it. it’s like you’re in prison and it’s your own mind. this song is literally a poetry and definitely one of the best songs ever written
