If my mother tongue is shaking the foundations of your state, it probably means that you built your state on my land.

These words say everything. Language should not be added to the list of things a government would kill for. It is true that whoever governs a land most likely controls the language that is spoken there as well. This can be oppressing to many people and can even put some in harms way just for the way they speak. Which isn't something that someone can choose it is something that we as humans are born with. Variations can occur from different regions political, environmental, or other factors. Things must be done to promote a shift in thinking from letting language separate us, to letting it bring us all closer together and learn from one another.

Body Language can say everything to an audience without you having to speak a word. That's why it is so important to practice your speech in a mirror or on recorded video so that you can note the gestures you are making and analyze whether they improve or harm your speech. Always keep in mind who your audience is and what gestures you're using. Gestures that mean one thing to you may mean something completely different in other cultures. Language is powerful even when it is not spoken so analyze all aspects of your speech before the actual presentation.

The Audience
One of the most beneficial things you can do for yourself before presenting a speech publicly is to get an idea of who your audience is going to be. Knowing what your audiences interest are, what knowledge they have on your topic, and also their attitude towards your topic can be a great help. By gathering this information you will be able to adapt your message to your audience. This will allow your message to stretch out further to members you may not have been able to reach before without this knowledge. Always tailor your message for each and every unique audience you present too.

At university I learnt how proper preparation and rehearsal can make doing presentations a lot easier, they don’t need to be a big deal! I just wish my teenage self knew this…I can’t tell you how many projects I did last minute because I was nervous and didn’t want to think about presenting.

To effectively get a message across to a large amount of people one must be able to first speak effictively. Then one must be able to speak their ideas effectively to a large audience. Before anything ever changes, one must speak of change. Before any policy or law changes, one must publicly speak their opinions on why there is need for change and what they’re plans are for changing them. Language is very powerful and through language one can create change. Through the power of language one can motivate, create, destroy, influence, and inspire figures from all over.

While I was doing my Public Speaking homework, I ran into the perfect opportunity to doodle in my book (:

Connecting to more and more audiences by acquiring new languages is a great way to learn about other cultures and other audiences. Always knowing the most you can abut the people you are speaking too is always helpful. Speaking to someone in their own tongue always helps to put listeners at ease and makes them more likely to listen to you and to listen to the message you are trying to convey.
Speaking another language is like gaining a new you, you have a new mindset, a new personality, a new way to express yourself. You’re able to reach into a new culture and see a whole new side to how life can be. Speaking another language gives you a gift that being monolingual cannot ever offer. It’s worth it. No matter what language you are learning, no matter what people say, no matter your reason it’s worth it.

Leonardo uses the power of his voice to persuade his audience in this case the In that climate change is happening now and now that industries and government's need to make changes now. He makes climate change not a message of politics but one of human life. By creating this urgency while also using powerful word choices he begins to persuade his audience and hopefully persuade and eventually change laws for them to be in favor of the environment.
