Speak pops up in different places all over the UK (and beyond) and we always like exploring and seeing what people are up to & how they're living our justice and community in their local areas.
This time, we were in Bristol for Vocal Training, and got to spend lots of time with some great people from Love Bristol, a brilliant collective of projects in the Stokes Croft area of Bristol designed to encourage self-restoration and a sense of community. We checked out Treasure (cool little charity/vintage shop), Happy Tat (furniture up-cyclers), Hoopers (v. good coffee), the Little Shop (selling locally made art and lovely stuff), the pop-up bakery and community houses. Plus a fire & sing song in the woods with the delightful Long for the Coast, and lots of amazing food = a very inspiring weekend.

SHAKE THE DUST [Imogen Kershaw]
We, as humans and inhabitants of Gods created planet, are called to constantly shake the dusk from the norms that society tries to define us by.
We have not been called to be a mere person stuffed in a matchbox culture.
We have been called to shake the dust.
We have not been called to undermine the great possibilities that we each hold within our hearts.
We have been called to shake the dust.
For we have been called to be adventurers.
We have been called to be creatives, as we have been formed by a creative God.
It moves within our veins with every heart beat. Our body has been put together to pump these natural creative juices through our bodies.
To challenge.
To move.
To inspire.
We have been called to shake the dust from our lives. For we have been made to do great things.
So go, do.
Shake off the dust of your soul and venture onto unknown territory.
Shake off the dust.

I've been reflecting on this sentiment lately, and very much enjoying bits of music I've bought here and there from friends, plus lots of Soundcloud listening. Resolve to do more.
Check out Music Speaks for some of our very own Speak Network artists.

BLESS ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 15 | IAN ADAMS
'Reach out beyond what you know breathe deep into your night fears and test your ancient-people memories. Traverse the borders of your tribe scale the cold face of your doubts refuse to be walled-in by the hate stories and shake off the assumptions you have made. Reach out you crazy peacemaker and shine.’
Taken from ‘Running Over Rocks’, p194 ‘Practices of Peace’.

BLESS ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 01 | CLAIR ROSSITER
Inspired by Mark 4:26-27: ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scattered seed on the ground. Night and Day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.’
"When you wait for God and abide in him, it’s abit like planting a seed which eventually produces all the good things, the fruits of the spirit. My painting is a celebration of this, with people dancing around a little christmas tree that’s been patiently and silently growing."
