Bright red sky after a storm when I was working at Walmart a few years ago. Still one of my favorite pictures

The story behind the butterfly effect is really cool. I don't remember it exactly but it goes something like:
1960s computer science guy was making a weather simulation algorithm based on real weather data. Computer memory was limited so he trimmed the input data down to 3 digits after the decimal point. He expected a little bit of inaccuracy because of that but when he ran the simulation the results were out of wack. And the longer he ran it the more inaccurate they became. The amount of air pressure that got removed by the rounding down was equivalent to the flutter of a butterfly's wing.
Hence why the flutter of a butterfly's wing changing the weather.
Also this was the origin story to an entire field called Chaos Theory.

Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.

One legitimately weird thing about Tumblr is that we literally can’t code for shit, many people quit working at Tumblr due to a hostile work environment, and we can’t seem to program a simple blogging website to not flood your RAM.

there was a brief period of time in my childhood where for some reason I thought pelicans and storks were the same thing. so when people referred to "babies brought by the stork" i (very naturally!) would picture a pelican carrying a baby around...in its mouth. bc a pelican mouth is about the right size for it. great for carrying baby shaped objects.
when i tell you the Pelican Put Baby In Mouth post recalled something absolutely primal in me...

I don’t want to say that my parents neglected me because I was always given attention and kept healthy and stuff but there are so many life skills I just did not learn because when I asked about them one or both of my parents would insist on just doing it themselves—maybe allowing me to watch but never getting a chance to try it or practice or actually learn to do it myself. just last night I asked my dad what tool I should use to tame the overgrown yard and his only suggestion was that I should ask Pip’s stepdad instead because he wasn’t comfortable with me doing it by myself. cool great thanks I’ll let YouTube and Reddit parent me like the rest of my generation then.

Do you know if there's any scholarly consensus on why so many different groups of people seem to have arrived at everything having emanated from an all-encompassing divinity in some way or another? I don't know where to start looking that doesn't lead to some ancient globespanning civilization conspiracy.
Look at literally everything in the world and ask yourself where it came from. Keep asking yourself that question. You will inevitably arrive at some philosophical concept similar to the Prime Mover or The One. The idea that "everything probably came from the same place if you look back far enough" is just a fairly logical conclusion to reach.

observation: among a certain subset of tumblr users, the term “blorbo” has become unchic, but the concept it describes is still important; and so it has been replaced with “The Character”
